Most welcome, I'm going to mount it on a board to do a display. I doubt it will be the colours as intended as I think its convertable to a small HAS

Hey that looks great, really different. Gonna check immediately if there's a 72nd scale variant, looks impressive! Looks like an awkward paint job but it will be very neat when finished and in use. 👍

So a quick update after having a outer printed from a texture for the outside of the HAS looks pretty good.

Cool, is the structure made from laser cut wood or is die cut card ?
Also curious how wide long and tall it is 🙂

Thanks Peter, my workbench for me, is very tidy, just look at some of my earlier builds and you will see what it was like lol
Thanks Choppa, its 38cm long, 36cm wide and 16cm high, the frame is laser cut card.

Where did you get it Augie. Is the Harrier lurking behind it going in it? LOL. Finally got primer on my AV-8B today, hopefully I will get to start painting it tomorrow.

Neat. I got the belly of the Harrier painted today, and spent 2 hours trying to unclog my airbrush. Finallt got it cleared out, so it is on to the top camo tomorrow.

I did notice the Harrier on the work bench with the proposed structure, and I was just being a smart a&^% mate. 😉
Will there be a whole lot of support equipment strewn around inside with the undies. ?
This will be quite interesting to see, as I have not ever seen a dio of a hardened shelter/hangar before and as your so gifted, the result will be something special. 👍 🙂

Hey Augie, This would look great with a few white LEDs rigged up in the roof frame work! If your unsure the easiest way is to get a chain of those white Xmas LED lights or ferry lights. Some come with around 20-50 LEDs linked together and are pre-wired to a small battery box powered by about 2 or 3 AA batteries you can safely cut off any extra ones you don't need from the other end away from the battery box and they should still light up without any problem. They don't cost much and it will let you see in to see your planes and (or) underpanties! 🙂

Lol thanks Kerry, I do plan equipment etc around it plus the base its on will be part of the dio. tho not as gifted as you make out
Glenn, I have a few options for LED lighting inside, Thinking of a light tower outside it too so will need to have a think

Cool you have to light this Augie! I only suggested the ferry lights as a simple option. They are cheap and pre-wired! I think you could hide the wire on the rear (back) side of the frames so it doesn't show from the front when you look in.

Thanks Glenn,
Yeah my plan is to run wires up behind the last frame for the lights. Battery box and switch to be in hidden in Aux building on back of the HAS much like the real ones. I'm using the HAS on the former Alconbury base as a Guide

Not a problem Augie. I can get loads of LEDs from old boards and leftovers from work down to LEDs only 2mm square or smaller! The hardest part is trying to solder to the SMD types (Surface Mounted Devices) they have very small tabs to solder to! I could put landing lights on aircraft and wingtip lights but running and hiding the wire is sometimes a pain. But i do look like lighting up a fair few of my spacecraft models. I need to get back to that big Millennium Falcon i was working on a while ago in a galaxy far far away! But that is getting a custom Mp3 player and speakers embedded into it for the sound effects as well. 🙂

Seems this shelter could take a Phantom, almost, with the nose cone sticking out anyway, I had to work it out coz I'm a geek 🙂
.... I'm wondering where you got the texture from for the roof and back wall ?
Anyhow, I'm liking the diorama potential of this, would be quite a good design to have a go at scratch building it...
I've got loads of empty cereal boxes 😄
Anyhow, I like this photo 🙂

Hi Choppa,
So because this is a "mod" of the ones from GPH, its a little on the short side and really a little on the thin side width wise (Maybe 2 Inches) With two of these kits you could add one of the 3 sections which would give you about the right length (GPH is in 3 lengthways sections) which would match the "guide" I'm working too.
The ones I am using as guide are Mk3 HAS from former RAF Alconbury which are wide enough for a A-10 (GPH is about 2 Inches short including gap) and would take a RF-4's easily
The textures for the HAS concrete are bought from smartmodels.co.uk/texture-sheets.html I used the O gauge sheets which is near 1:48. They are self print A4, I will hold my hand up to a little photoshop magic to make them fit, an then sent them to a printers I know to be printed.
The one for the hard standing was one again downloaded but from another source (cant remember where) and photoshopped to plan, then sent to same printers.
All in all printing costs for these were I think about £30 due to size, but for a one off display its a fair price.
I intend to ultimately replace the hard standing with home made by Babaks method.
cheers

yep I like Babak's hard stand base too, very nicely done 🙂

As for the HAS type shelter i could imagine using lots of small diameter flexible plastic tubing (like the stuff used around electrical wiring) or maybe the bendy bits from those plastic drink straws? to make the interior of the roof glued to some flexible plastic sheet curved to make the outside of the concrete roof maybe?
Just a thought?
