A little less than 4 weeks delayed, and I finished the Spitfire mk. XIV
The Spifire was my main project, untill someone started building his Fokker and I had to follow 😉
warped wing
TIL the image on the back of the box is the same size as the model; very helpfull for taping the where-not-to-paint area
Touching up work... feeling a bit stuck...
Back to the Spitfire, painting the leading edges yellow (which took some discussion and research).
Found some new motivation

Happy with the exhaust.
But every time I check the paint, I see some green to touch up... difficult colour scheme to be honest

Started the decals, but the roundels are really purple instead of blue (much more than I remembered).
Nothing more to do than Photoshop or simply convert pics to black-and-white

not bad...
Removing the purple decals with bandage tape
Started with the underside, which is the easiest to repair. But not much repair needed.
Left wing came out better than the right, but I´m not disappointed
Decals from the Sea Hurricane, same size as the Spitfire´s.
I could kick myself for not thinking about it as soon as I saw the old purple roundels.

The first spare decals have been applied. The registration is from the original kit.
Note to self; when building an old kit, order new decals to go with it.

I had to improvise to make a spinning propeller, but it works !!
Antenna from stretched sprue
Love that huge nose, with the 5-bladed prop
V1, finished some time ago
I'll have to use the stand from the kit to work on a better presentation. First for a table stand, and later for hanging on the ceiling

Really interesting reference photos. Liking your builds, and watching with interest 👍🙂

Good job on removing the decals, right decision. Don't worry about time passing 🙂

Never seen a model kit get a waxing job before! Did you try wetting the decals before resorting to exfoliating them?

I didn't try the wetting technics, just the quick and dirty tape method. The decals were old, and just applied a day before, so I tried.

Yes! Photo 31 conveys exactly the feeling of what you set out to do. Good job! Thumbs up! 👍

Pure vintage, what a trip down the memory lane. 👍 Is that the original stand?

Lukasz, yes, it's the original stand. The kit shows it's age, but that's ok.
It was a fun built, and I will do my best on another Spitfire soon 😉

Album info
The V1 is done for now, maybe I'll do some touch ups in the next weeks.
The Spitfire has been assembled for the most part, and a few layers of paint are on.
After applying the first decals, I found them far to purple, so I googled "how to remove decals". Witch worked more or less ok.
But it will take me at least four weeks to repair
