Workshop
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/5/2/8/1255528-97204-85-720.jpg)
So the basic layout is something like this.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/5/2/9/1255529-97204-27-720.jpg)
The walls and the floor are made of xps.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/5/2/6/1255526-97204-97-720.jpg)
Measured, cut, and made the bricks by the blunt side of a #14 blade.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/5/2/7/1255527-97204-12-720.jpg)
The bridging above the window & the door is a separate piece.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/5/3/0/1255530-97204-42-720.jpg)
Walls are ready to be painted.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/5/3/1/1255531-97204-12-720.jpg)
Thick brick red as a base color.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/5/3/2/1255532-97204-76-720.jpg)
Added some color variations.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/5/3/3/1255533-97204-92-720.jpg)
The recesses were filled with grinded gluing material, then soapy water (to break surface tension) was applied with a pipette.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/5/3/4/1255534-97204-10-720.jpg)
Side wall.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/5/3/5/1255535-97204-39-720.jpg)
Bridging in this case is concrete colored xps.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/5/5/3/1255553-97204-24-720.jpg)
The floor with added dilettations.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/5/5/5/1255555-97204-44-720.jpg)
Cat accident: somehow the wall fell down, and my beloved kitty chewed on it... well, rebuilding it is.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/5/6/1/1255561-97204-48-720.jpg)
The base of the roof, also from balsa, weathered with thin gray acrylic paint, and black oil.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/5/3/6/1255536-97204-82-720.jpg)
Now the windows. Balsa wood, and the glass is from a lid of a takeaway container.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/5/3/7/1255537-97204-79-720.jpg)
Weathered.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/5/3/9/1255539-97204-72-720.jpg)
The handle is made from soldering material.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/5/4/0/1255540-97204-53-720.jpg)
Finally in their places.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/5/3/8/1255538-97204-45-720.jpg)
Now onto the doors. The material is 0.5mm plastic sheet.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/5/4/1/1255541-97204-77-720.jpg)
I created everything from the same sheet, cut into stripes.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/5/4/2/1255542-97204-39-720.jpg)
One is ready.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/5/5/2/1255552-97204-83-720.jpg)
And now, painted in gray, weathering & rusting is yet to come.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/5/4/3/1255543-97204-65-720.jpg)
For the workbench, I used this AFV Club kit (35302). It is most suitable for the Vietnam war era US workshops, but a workbench is a workbench nevertheless.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/5/4/4/1255544-97204-65-720.jpg)
These came with the kit, and they are NOT decals, but finely printed on paper.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/5/4/5/1255545-97204-79-720.jpg)
The bench has removable drawers! Painted the thing with some olive drab.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/5/4/9/1255549-97204-91-720.jpg)
A bit of weathering by my beloved standard pencil.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/5/4/6/1255546-97204-17-720.jpg)
The drill is a real gem.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/5/5/0/1255550-97204-70-720.jpg)
The etched tools are from some Chinese seller on Ali. Yeah, shame on me.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/5/5/1/1255551-97204-32-720.jpg)
But they do look good. Sprayed with Vallejo Dark Aluminum.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/5/4/7/1255547-97204-49-720.jpg)
This shelf is made of balsa and matches.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/5/4/8/1255548-97204-22-720.jpg)
Some weathering &panting.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/5/5/4/1255554-97204-66-720.jpg)
Just to get some ideas of the layout.
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/5/5/6/1255556-97204-11-720.jpg)
Let's start with the wiring. I'm no electrician, as the pics perfectly indicate.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/5/5/7/1255557-97204-55-720.jpg)
Yeah, the cables ain't straight, but alas, after so much vodka, yours wouldn't be either 🙂
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/5/5/8/1255558-97204-70-720.jpg)
Added some stuff onto the shelf, and to the wall (fire extinguisher).
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/5/5/9/1255559-97204-58-720.jpg)
At several companies here, mechanics & workshops use rags to clean up oil and stuff. Often these rags coming in transparent big bags, and are actual clothes cut up for this purpose. What I did, was to cut out a small piece of xps, then painted with loads of colors. Then covered the thing in kitchen cellophane, and it looks just like what we have 🙂
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/5/6/0/1255560-97204-73-720.jpg)
Heating was provided with a stove, and with coal. The box is again from 0.5mm plastic, the coal is what railroad modelers use under their rails.
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/5/6/2/1255562-97204-59-720.jpg)
Looking from the outside, with a bit of dirt.
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/4/8/8/1261488-97204-27-720.jpg)
The lighting.
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/4/8/9/1261489-97204-33-720.jpg)
Started the ceiling & roof.
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/4/9/0/1261490-97204-27-720.jpg)
The stalker glued into its place (maybe going to add some footprints).
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/4/9/1/1261491-97204-34-720.jpg)
Base of the ceiling.
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/4/9/2/1261492-97204-15-720.jpg)
In its place.
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/4/9/3/1261493-97204-81-720.jpg)
The test unit for the roof.
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/9/9/2/1274992-97204-71-720.jpg)
Roofing in progress
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/9/9/3/1274993-97204-34-720.jpg)
Added some tiles, cast from plaster using Diorama Debris' silicone mould.
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/2/2/5/1275225-97204-64-720.jpg)
More & more tiles
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/2/2/6/1275226-97204-40-720.jpg)
Peeling green paint (Vallejo 70.970 deep green). Will add tonal variation with oils
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/1/1/4/1276114-97204-66-720.jpg)
All the tiles are on. Was a bit tedious?
![Album image #49 Album image #49](/albums/img/1/1/5/1276115-97204-61-720.jpg)
Sandind the edge tiles took a lot of focus.
![Album image #50 Album image #50](/albums/img/1/1/6/1276116-97204-59-720.jpg)
And unfortunately, the inside is very dark... might install a small LED above the bench from the outside.
![Album image #51 Album image #51](/albums/img/1/1/7/1276117-97204-13-720.jpg)
Backside.
![Album image #52 Album image #52](/albums/img/1/1/9/1276119-97204-96-720.jpg)
Testing the weathering on a dummy piece.
![Album image #53 Album image #53](/albums/img/1/1/8/1276118-97204-19-720.jpg)
Right side is untouched.
![Album image #54 Album image #54](/albums/img/1/2/0/1276120-97204-73-720.jpg)
Some more effects, sponge with 3 different gray, and olive green, the moss is fine sawdust and pieces of sponge.
![Album image #55 Album image #55](/albums/img/1/2/1/1276121-97204-23-720.jpg)
Just a reference shot.
![Album image #56 Album image #56](/albums/img/3/9/9/1277399-97204-84-720.jpg)
Done some weathering. First, a filter of AK Dunkelgrau (AK704), then sponge application of Vallejo Basalt Grey (70.869), after that, MiG Ghost Grey (MiG-0203), and again a Dunkelgrau layer. This gave the tiles 3 things: uniformized the colors; gave similar impurities as the real tiles; and the vertical streaks. The moss is fine green sawdust, and some sponge.
![Album image #57 Album image #57](/albums/img/7/6/2/1281762-97204-25-720.jpg)
Not so dark now, eh?
![Album image #58 Album image #58](/albums/img/7/6/3/1281763-97204-58-720.jpg)
From another angle.
![Album image #59 Album image #59](/albums/img/8/7/6/1580876-97204-58-720.jpg)
Okay, so back after a long hiatus! Repainting the doors, this time using the salt chipping technique. Base is Tamiya XF-64 red brown.
![Album image #60 Album image #60](/albums/img/8/7/7/1580877-97204-23-720.jpg)
Color selected is RC321 (RLM76 ver.2)
![Album image #61 Album image #61](/albums/img/9/1/0/1580910-97204-22-720.jpg)
So, salt removed. I must say, I like this method very much - and I just did it for the first time! Definitely gives way more subtle edges than, say, the liquid mask or chipping fliud methods.
![Album image #62 Album image #62](/albums/img/7/5/4/1581754-97204-52-720.jpg)
Fun with AK pencils.
![Album image #63 Album image #63](/albums/img/8/8/3/1585883-97204-76-720.jpg)
Creating the gutter. 0.15mm brass sheet, bent around a brush.
![Album image #64 Album image #64](/albums/img/8/8/8/1585888-97204-13-720.jpg)
Primed with Surfacer 1500
![Album image #65 Album image #65](/albums/img/8/8/7/1585887-97204-68-720.jpg)
Added tonal variation with a light gray, sponge applied.
![Album image #66 Album image #66](/albums/img/8/8/4/1585884-97204-79-720.jpg)
A Vallejo Game Wash gave it a pretty sweet hue!
![Album image #67 Album image #67](/albums/img/8/8/5/1585885-97204-80-720.jpg)
AK Chipping Color pencil followed.
![Album image #68 Album image #68](/albums/img/8/8/6/1585886-97204-80-720.jpg)
And glued onto the shed.
