MPC Mack DM 800 with AMT Peerless Logging Trailer
First thing's first... get rid of all of this awful chrome!
All of the parts for the truck washed
Joyless chores... sanding and filling and choking on all the dust
Gonna 3D print some more aggressive off road tires for this build
Engine assembled and detailed!
Putty on the exhaust parts for some pre-weathering. Exhaust shield has been drilled out
Chassis assembled and plumbing installed
Starting on the base. Plywood steps filled in with some water based putty
Something like... so
All of the tires printed up and paired off
Finally done with all of the sanding!
Primer on!
Just kidding about being done with sanding... gotta clean up the edges of the diorama base
What makes a really good mud texture? Sanded tile grout! What's unreasonably heavy after being spread across a 30x30 inch diorama base? Sanded tile grout!
Worth it though, texture is perfect! Rocks and sticks added, to be painted over
Primer followed by gloss black basecoat
Sprayed with gloss brown then moved it upstairs
Something like... so
Filling the ruts with white glue to create some spots of wet mud
Something like... so
Pre-shading with an airbrush, then adding some more interesting texture with a sponge
Chassis and axles painted black
Rusty basecoat for the engine, with some crackling paint for added weathering effect
Subtle pre-shading showing through the color
Flaking paint effect on the charge air parts from the crackle medium
Just about done! Time for some drybrushing and mud!
Dried dirt added around the bases of the "freshly installed" hydro poles. Additional rocks and sticks also added on top of the mud layer
Underbrush (lichen) in place. Toothpicks mark the site of each tree to be installed
Coming together well
Last step - gobs of goo to which the foliage clumps with stick
Et voila! 12 hours to spare before the big show!
Houston... we have a problem
Much cussing and several minor construction projects later, I've finally got it loaded in the Jeep
On display at DAAM's NNL show!

Great project. Really like how the truck and the groundwork turned out. I only would expect truck, trailer and the heavy accessories to be a bit more sunk into the soft ground and with a bit more mud at the chassis.
But your teaser pic got me fooled for a moment as I considered it to be a pic of a real truck.

Looks like the real thing! Very convincing weathering and wear and tear effects. Excellent!

Thank you everyone! Indeed, I would've liked to sink it into the mud more, but the ruts I made were a little off from the final track width of the truck and trailer. I haven't ruled out remaking the base from pink foam someday - in its current state, it's almost too heavy to move without a helper! Nonetheless, I'm fairly happy with the result and I'm glad you guys enjoyed it! I have another truck or two that I'd like to add to it (maybe some figures too), hopefully to be done in time for the St. Ignace show next year!

Incredible work! But I feel, the engine bay bay is too clean... (Joke) I think I should have to rebirth to build just similar works, like yours!

Can't believe I missed this one!
Sorry mate, but that's awesome work! This kit gets some negative press, but you've proved, that it can be built into a formidable model.
Well executed Brandon 👍

Thanks Bozzer! I'll say, it would've been hard to build it as a "clean" truck given the state of the kit... MPC should have to pay me $40 for building it!
