The second Tornado, which is to be produced as a GR.4 in desert pink, is a bit more pure: no resin seats - but the seats that Revell has put in the box are of the very best quality, in my opinion! Etched parts such as harnesses and cockpit fittings are from Eduard.

Very nice detail work in that cockpit.

I will follow your builds closely! I want to built one too and the kit seems to be tricky. I had a link to a clever build of an British modeler, but the videos are deleted now 🙁
Let's see how you manage the problematic fit. I'm sure your final result will be great!

I am encouraged by your confidence - and yes, as young as the construction is, it is clear that it will require some ingenuity. One thing, for example, that I haven't read about in any review yet, but could notice in both kits: the rear wall behind the front seat in the cockpit.... is missing! Did Revell forget this? I don't know, I will have to scratch it.
The accuracy of fit is indeed- not good!

I think there is no wall. I have this reference book Book: Panavia Tornado (by Andreas Klein, Christian Gerard) and there is a picture of the area after the pilot seat. You can see the foot rest of the back seater (no pedal!) and the cabling of the upper displays.
Here is a 3D view of the cockpit (you van move your view around, it is nice in full screen mode), but the front seat hides that area:

I would like to thank you all for your interest and the hints as to how the Tornado is really built! The 360-degree view of the cockpit is already amazing per se - and comes from a place that is above criticism! It also seems clear to me that there is no solid rear panel..... and I have not yet found a source of images that would clearly show one.
So I will try my luck in rebuilding this cockpit visible in the 3d-image - thank you very much for this great help!

A few pictures show the slow but steady progress: grinding out the seams in the air intakes took a little bit of time. The pictures also show how mediocre the fit of some parts and assemblies is at best.

The front cockpit 3D (there is no one from the back seater) is nice, but be careful: it is not complete. This seems to come from a simulator, so the pyrotechnics were removed, e.g. the rockets to remove the canopy. Here you can see empty clamps and holes.

Thank you, mates!
As the build progresses, it becomes apparent that Revell's Tornado does have some massive fitting problems. Take a look at these gaps! It is also interesting to look at the gallery of the second, long-nosed Tornado: here the same problems appear, if not even worse.
But there is a cure for everything!

That is what I meant in my comment at the beginning. In the deleted videos it was explained, "how to dig out parts which fits later" out the the kit parts. Due to the spreading the fuselage on that many parts every little problem sums up.
But I'm sure you will manage it!

Thanks for the encouragement.... I'll take your word for it - and I will manage! 🙂

Revell's tonka is one of those kits where you'll use CA and clamps more than plastic cement. Best way is to stay away from the instructions and maximize your ability to support things internally where CA is best for, outta sight.

For the record Videos mentioned are available at www.tornadosig.com under modelling the Tornado section. Watching them helps however its still a hands-on thing and YMMV.

Anyway, coming along great so far. 👍 if there is any upside to the parts breakdown, it's that they are on panel lines most of the time.

Hi mates, thank you for your answers- helpful and accurate they reveal the experienced modellers. Thanks for the link to the videos!
