This project depicts an M48A5 chassis AVLB during the 1991 Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm).
The M48A5 chassis is painted in Desert Yellow which differs from today's Army or NATO Sand. The bridge is painted in woodland camouflage to portray a replacement bridge pulled from the pre-positioned theater stocks.
The bridge is positioned in the vertical ("A") position to showcase the size of the bridge.
The vignette has the crew trouble shooting a hydraulic leak in the bridge and launcher connection.
I started with the bridge assembly, upgrading the bridge substructure details and the hydraulic system piping lines and connectors that the kit lacks.
The chassis received a few improvements by adding smoke grenade storage box, hydraulic lines to the bridge seat, and rubber pads atop the bridge seat I-beam.
I adding scratch built camouflage net and pole bags to the rear deck, hydraulic fluid container and a set of tools behind the cupolas to complete the vignette theme.

Spent significant time researching the bridge sub-structure and hydraulic lines. Since the underside of the bridge will be visible a few modifications are needed to the kit.
The ribbing braces need multiple access ports to be drilled out. The kits ribbing parts are solid sheets of styrene. The hydraulic lines run through these ribbing panels, they need to be corrected.
The rib panels at the end of the bridge section also need flat and triangular flanges added.
At the bridge hinges, new flixible metal hydraulic conduit lines and connection points will be added to replace the kits overly simplistic (and rigid) plastic parts.
