still working on the hemi though, but had some problems with the paint. so had to strip part of the paint off and redo it. the tamiya spray doesn't go with the revell flat black, but by the silver colors it does, dont really get that. I wont be panting the floorboard dark grey, but light grey on the caddy. Engine is almost finished. posting pictures soon.

I painted the transmission aluminum, although the instructions said dark blue like the engine, that didn't sound right, never seen a painted transmission, I could be wrong, but it does show the difference between the engine and transmission when they are painted differently.

That 59 Eldo had a 390 so I think it used the 315 Hydra-Matic, they probably were bare aluminium cases & not painted.
The completed engine was painted before the two were mated so it's almost certain there wouldn't have been any overspray either.

I saw a picture on the internet of one that was painted with roses all over, it looked really good, but now I cant find it anymore. I love the older cars, the newer cars just dont look good to me, no style, no artistic license, no chrome. Just boring. An exception might be cars like the Audi R8 or Bugatti Veyron, those are interesting looking cars I think. Normal production cars these days have nothing in the way of style, but back then, I would say from the 30's into the 70's the cars had class.

Got some paint on the body, needs some sanding and a second coat now. Painted a large portion of the interior and chassis yesterday. Does anyone know if these cars had a fuel pump on the motor, I couldn't find one. The engine is also assembled up to the point of putting it on the chassis. I didn't follow the instructions all the way, I wanted the carburetors the gold color that I know from carburetors, and also painted the starter an iron color and only the solenoid black. Didn't see a fuel pump on the engine though, maybe they are only in the tank or something.

Hi Chris, the 390 cubic inch engine in that Eldo would've had a mechanical fuel pump fitted to the left front side of the timing cover.
Often fuel pumps were engine block colour as they were installed prior to being painted.
For that reason in 1/24 scale the pump would be no bigger than a match head, so pretty hard to recognise anyway!

I thought fuel pumps were always a brass color or so because that is the way I've always seem em, but most of my experience comes from Fords and Chevys. I was looking around on google, found an article of good pictures from someone rebuilding one of these engines, and it looks like the Fuel pump is part of the Carburetor assembly. It also looks like the blue I picked for my engine is too dark, and I think I have the color that is closer to how it look is the pictures here. Here is a link to the engine that I found.

That's a great link Chris! Interesting read, I've tuned a few 472's in my time & even a 500.
If you study that pic closely you'll see the blue painted dome shaped casting bolted to the top left side of the block. That's the fuel pump, the brass assembly to the left of it is the fuel filter.
Later blocks had the pump mounted much lower down the block, driving straight of the camshaft.

Those driving out of the camshaft are what Im used to I guess, how it was on most of the cars Ive owned with V8, my 79 Chevy with a 350 was the first engine I took a part after it threw a rod. the older engines Im not so familiar with though.

Well, finally an update, been busy with work and the last week with the flu so haven't accomplished all that much. Interior is mostly done though, except the Dashboard, was trying to figure out what some of the stuff was on there because on the interior pictures I found the piece in the upper left is a gauge but on the model it looks completely different. I also got most of the Chrome on the body, but I have to work on the Windshield because it was pretty badly scratched, got the big scratches sanded off it now, just got to polish it up now.

Got pretty far on the Caddy now, there are some adjustments that have to be made in the engine compartment to straiten some stuff up, the hood hinges, thats about it except for the one sore spot, the windshield, its terrible, it was so scratched up so I decided to try to fix it and then I broke it in half, so I guess the dude driving my Caddy hit a Bird? But the frame doesn't look all that good either, and I am having a really tough time trying to get any kind of shine out of the plastic. I guess it just the type of plastic that is harder to work with, maybe it has to do with the age of the plastic, Im not sure. Wish I could get a new windshield and frame for it , would be the best solution.

Have you thought about dipping the clear plastic glass in to Future floor polish?
It's a great way to improve stained or scratched clear parts.
