I spent the last week working on this one. Still needs a little more weathering, a little touch up and antenna added. Pretty close to complete...
4 April, 02:54

The Tamiya kit is amazing. The features of having the cowling open (or closed) just by taking the prop off and then removing the closed cowling and replacing it with the open cowling is awesome. I was fretting which way to make the kit, but this is not a choice I had to make. It's made with both options simultaneously and configured as needed for display!
4 April, 03:03

Thanks! The mottling is really kinda unpredictable depending on the paint I use. Right now, I am running out of the Model Master Luftwaffe colors so I am switching over to the Mr. Hobby Aqueous colors. They are really fine for sure!

I have built several of these cool Radar Frescos, but this old model is a very tricky one to build correctly. Have fun and I am sure you will do a great job!
11 January, 07:09

Tricky model?
Correct dimensions, fine and many details, discreet engraving, colorful and usable decals, I really don't know what you mean, Thomas.
Good luck, Chris.
11 January, 08:53

Please don't scare me. 😉 But I'm used to making old kits. Not possible - is not possible!
Just lay back, grab beer and chips and watch me struggling. 🙂
12 January, 01:45

I've built the old KP MiG-15UTI and Su-7. In both cases for some reason the cockpit doesn't go together like the instructions, so fit stuff before gluing. The parts count is low. The surface detailing is nice. The fit is indifferent.
1 12 January, 02:53

Strange. I built the cockpit as in the instruction. Fits well. When dried, the instruments panel will be next.
14 January, 22:26

Finished this kit. The canopy is an awful mess and I would call it "milky". The rivets are very present. The best way for me is to visit the final kit from a distance of 1 m. Then it looks great. The kit seems to be from 1974 as this is the boxart. And I did use the decals from the box: The Vallejo Aluminium was airbrushed with gloss varnish, then the decals with MicroSet and microSol. Afterwards satin varnish over all.

I suppose it will be a week or two before all the parts are here...
2 18 March, 16:56

I'm still waiting on the correct seats and cockpit details... Looks like I have to scratch build details for the wheel wells!
1 23 March, 21:17

Just got the IAF F-15I Ra'am decals from Cartograph!!! Things are coming together!!!
1 24 March, 00:16

Мне пришлось купить декали, катапультные кресла и антенные конвертеры F-15I. Детали F-15I были куплены в IsraDecal.
26 March, 20:18

Well... It's time to begin. I believe I have all the parts now!!!

The red Vega

A bit dramatic?
This is how the Vega would mess up the hairstyles of museum visitors :)
projekt: Lockheed Vega 5b - Amelia Earhart
41 1 April, 14:57

After a few self-inflicted mishaps, the model of this famous Vega was finally finished.
Many thanks to Jacqueline in Switzerland for her help!
1 April, 15:10

Looks better than the one in the NASM (I've seen her there...). Congrats!
1 1 April, 15:36

As usual: great job! I like your definition of gloss ("scaled down") 🙂. I do the same to avoid the toy effect. I hope to see more golden age birds in the same manner🙂
1 1 April, 19:05

What a wonderful feedback 🙂 Thank you very much mates!
@Robert That are bad news. I thought it looks nice there and also on the high-res pictures of the museum it looks great. But I do not want to ruin my model to display it in the condition of the museum 🙂
It's a real shame that my wheel painting is wrong. I only found a reference picture after the shoes were glued together.
1 2 April, 16:59

Wheel painting: wrong?? I checked you wheel with the original and I can't see any difference…

An otherwise indiferent bird, personally speaking, you managed to turn into a spectacle!
1 2 April, 17:18

Bernhard, your link does not work. But all pics I know show only the tires and not the rims.
The picture I found later shows the complete wheels of Amelias plane during maintenance, see the text here:
flickr.com/photos/ai..m-72157707946474384/
The DoraWings model shows also a bit of the rims.
There were tow types of tires: on thin one, and a optional low pressure tire with thick wheels and bigger wheel pants.
Thank you Giannis! Glad you like it 🙂

Beautiful work, my friend. A very sharp build. I love the red and gold paint scheme you went with. Looks terrific on this. Fantastic, as always!

Very nice place you got!

Hi Martin, Thx for your words, and yes, nowadays only 1/35 & 1/32 WWII Kits😉
6 April 2019, 16:39

Hi James. Thank you for your Nice words. The collection got Much bigger since😉
10 April 2019, 21:14

Thank you Math. My new man cave is Almost ready i Will take new photos and start modeling again. I hope.
9 June 2019, 11:34

I'm always interested to see where others work (well, play really). I'm rebuilding my workspace as well at the moment, I'll post some pics when it's done.

Hi mates, thank you for your words.
@gorbygould, i hope your play pode Will be ready soon🙂
9 June 2019, 21:17

Nice to see a clean floor, makes it easy to keep the floor clean, as opposed to having stuff cluttered all around the floor.
1 15 June 2019, 14:04

Hi! Nice cave and collection! Does your air-brush compressor come from Ali-Express? They sell the same one. Is it good or not?
15 June 2019, 16:50

Hi mates,
@ Alec & Roland thank you for your Nice words, apreciated.
@Treehugger, no i think they are osram classic 6500k E27 led value A60 9w =60w cool white 806lm:
google.com/search?q=..imgrc=jv4UmI6z25LORM
As to the floor the colour is good but i wish it add smaller rectificated joints, but that's wat i got so i just try to have footers all the way arround to avoid Losing smal flying pieces.
@ Arnoud, most of My new stuff came from evelbay. This compressors machines are all from China and then several brands give them another name.
It's working well but still i have to test it much more.
15 June 2019, 17:29

What a nice place to be/ work/ relax. Looking at your stash there´s a lot work to do in your cave 🙂
12 October 2020, 05:28

Re: compressor, looks similar to the HSeng I have, quiet, cheap at only 190 AUD, and, so far, reliable.
12 October 2020, 05:48

Mooie werkruimte en nog een stash voor een tijdje. Zit met hetzelfde probleem 🙂. 👍
12 October 2020, 09:05

Thank you mates for your Nice comments, much aprecaited.
@Coporado, it was a storage room, so there are two problems, one does not have natural light or the other does not have running water, but that's what you get. now it is a little different, as I moved the drawer modules over the drawing board.
the stash is much bigger than what i will be able to chew, thanks to evilbay.
@Richmond, Yap another evilbay buy. No problems whatsoever with it.
@ Gunther, the only thing I'm m missing now is a sprayboth. I'm thinking building one myself😉
12 October 2020, 22:13

I think Plasmo built one from scratch but a work colleague said you have to carefully select the electrical /mechanical parts as they can ignite the fumes
13 October 2020, 08:57

Good looking workplace Rui, with a well originised stash. You can spend many happy hours there 🙂
13 October 2020, 20:11

Thanks you very much for the heads up 👍. I'm thinking using a WC fan...
13 October 2020, 20:12

Rui, everything is well organized and you made it really nice place to work. For having natural light you might find appropriate lamps on the market. Daylight has a range of 5000 - 6000 Kelvin, which these lamps should cover. You can get them for around 20 EUR. I´m happy with 2 lamps providing that range. Particularly for figure painting I love it. Concerning the airbrush both a bathroom/ WC fan is great. You may just put it behind a filter of a kitchen hood. I did mine the same way, putting it in a wooden box and attached some LED stripes inside around the painting area.
14 October 2020, 05:52

Hi Coporado, I'm quite happy with my led lights. I have 3 on the celling, two on the drawing board, and a third (hot and could each with ajustements) in the magnifying glass that i always use because I am seeing worse and worse and I already use 2.5 glasses. i Was talking more about an inclosed space without a glass window.
As to the booth, yes that's what I'm planing and use a conduit directly to the ventilation grilles on the left
14 October 2020, 17:59

New Layout. Now on the left there is place to a spray booth. One day, one day

I especially like the precision modeling tool in workbench picture #11, in front of the gold statue. Sometimes you need a little something special when a model just won't go together. Lol
1 March 2021, 00:49

@hammer, LOOLLL, I knew that I have a gold statue (offered by my young sun in fathers day). But precision modeling tools, I don't have many, so I had to look and you made me laugh.Thank God I haven't had to use it on any model, yet 😄

Una pregunta, veo que tienes muchas maquetas de la marca ITALERI que tal calidad son? Yo solo hize el tanque FURY y fue bastante malo. Un saludo
22 April 2021, 11:17

Thank you mates.
24 April 2021, 13:31

Rui. Image 12 has me a little concerned mate. ! What the hell is a 500g rubber hammer used for when you model. ???? :-O
I know that some parts don't go together as planned, but wow, a hammer. ??? 😉 LOL

Obrigado Jorge, sinto que ainda há muita coisa a melhorar na funcionalidade do posto de trabalho, mas com o tempo e prática vai_se compondo a coisa. O prazer foi meu.
@ Kezza, you made me lough a lot with your funny comment. The hammer was handy when I was mouting the cabinnets, but it's still there just in case 😄
13 May 2021, 20:17

I must admit Rui. I do understand the hammer now, having had to use something similar when I put my IKEA display cases together, but the sight of it did raise some alarm bells here. hahahahaha 😉 👍

14 May 2021, 15:05

It's great to have things all organized, all within easy reach and bright. ! Your a great modeller now Rui, but watch how much you improve now things are, "As they should be". 🙂 🙂 🙂 👍 I have just done the same thing Rui, and I really have got more enthusiasm than ever before to do what I like to do,
10 July 2021, 12:22

Thanks Kezza. Yes I understand what you mean, and I can add that with work and practice, there is always more to improve functionality 😉

I noitce the white PC speakers next ot the window - must be at least 20 years new!
1 September 2021, 07:57

Thx mates.
@ Jonn, the idea was good but they are not very adjustable any more, because the joints are in poor quality plastic. But they work.
Glad you like my dios, your comment is much apreciated. The autumm One is not finished yet. I intend to add a horse (already Started) and some figures... One day... 🤔
@ Marder III, Thx but don't be, this is a storage room 3 stors down from my apartment... But ofcourse I can't complain.
I'm not interested in (well, interested I would be, but making an efort not to) buying more kits now and I've been able to do that, for some years now. So...
Now what I want, it's to take the boxes out, build them and ocuppy the same space with dios 😉
@ Lenny, hehehe, you are right, they are old (like the majority of my stash), but they still work just fine 😄
3 September 2021, 00:49

Thx, Villiers de Vos. Improving yes, I hope so. Expanding 🤔 ? Not so sure about that 🙂
1 8 September 2021, 20:34

I do hope you have a tread mill close by, or at least some where you can get to for some physical attention. ? As being more confined that most times, and sitting for longer periods of time, exercise is now your best friend. !
8 September 2021, 22:54

Nice cave! Love your stash aswel 👍 and great to see young blood helping 🙂
9 September 2021, 04:51

@ Kezza, you are absolutely right, but I'm not a exercise fan, unless it his to Carry a big beer package 😄
@Sergej I, thx for your words. The Young is my older son, 21 now and did not repeat the experience, unfortunately 🙁 I Will have to handle my stash Alone 🤔
10 September 2021, 20:00

Haha, I'm jealous that you have a grown up son, my destructive two year old boy captures 90% territory of my home and my dog and me share the rest 10% on balcony, was creepy freezing out there!
29 January 2022, 01:16

Hehehe, you have to enjoy him now, because no time your son Will be in school, and you Will miss the time he was the sovereign 😉
29 January 2022, 01:33

Rui. I whole heartedly agree with you and your thoughts about being a dad.
My boy had the attention span of a gold fish at four, but now, he is a petty officer in the RAN. Go figure. !
But sharing those formative years I would gladly do again.
BTW, your man cave look like it is a relatively dust free area. Yes. ?
30 January 2022, 08:21

@ Kerry, Yap that's it, thx for the suport 😉
My cave has a ventilation grille on the right, that overlooks the sidewalk. the street doesn't have a lot of traffic, and I put an acrylic on the inside, but even so... not completely free from dust and not a big problem. I don't have to clean it often, Why do you ask?
30 January 2022, 14:56

I loved the pic of your son helping out the most - it's a great bonding exercise - and more importantly, it keeps the hobby alive! 😀. I've managed to get my wife and daughter to participate in a build with me, but still working on the last kid! 😱
5 February 2024, 00:46

I am envious, you had a fantastic space, and now you have an even better space.
5 February 2024, 00:57

I envy you Rui because I work on a 78x52cm table. This is Kingdom for me 😄
5 February 2024, 11:39

@ CaptGPF, I wish I could say it worked, but no, after this kit, he didn't do any more, apparently I couldn't motivate him enough 🙁
@ Jennifer Franklin, Thank you for your words, but in fact the previous space was indoors so it had better conditions, this one is in a storage room and therefore has less natural light but the worst thing is the lack of water, so to wash my hands I have to climb 3 floors, but I shouldn't complain, as this is my own space and of reasonable dimensions 😉
@ Lukas Muller, I understand your envy, so I can't complain. But the most important thing is to have mojo, because any space will do 🙂
@ Mr James, Only between buildings, because I stop to clean and tidy up before starting the next one. During, it is more or less desorganized chaos. 😄
5 February 2024, 23:21

Rui, i really envy your special model workshop...its only a dream for me.
10 March 2024, 08:01

Thank you Anthony. Apreciated having this space is Great but also important is the good old mojo 😉
22 March 2024, 22:09

Thx Ade,
Yap, can't complain, but at least you have plenty water available 😄
27 May 2024, 21:23

Great workshop. I'm glad to see someone create such a place. I worked at a desk for a long time, but after my older son decided to live independently, a place was found for me in the house as well. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get any of my children involved in the hobby. I've got three. On the other hand, my nephew is already building his sixth plane.
2 29 March, 16:37

Thank you. I'm glad you now have a Nice man cave too. 👍 I've two boys and nether follow the hobby, but I've tried 😉
2 29 March, 17:20

@ Doubtingmango, Thank you. I'm glad you like it.
My brother-in-law gave me his bookshelf and I decided to recycle it, to make a new custom-made display case/vitrine, for our living room (had to convince my wife that it would be acording to her hi standards).
She had to put her doubts (unfounded of course) aside and in the end she ended up giving me 5 stars 😄
Now, I can finish my Mariupol dio (started to work on it again) and must do some more dios 😉 I'm happy 🙂
Even without a carpentry, I always enjoyed working with chipboard (you know, cuting half a mm more, or a mm less, wherever it was) and making custom cabinets.
P.S. Added the items for a scratch spray booth 🤔
1 3 April, 13:06

Thank you for your support Lorraine Lin, much appreciated.
As for the spray booth, for many years, whenever I used the airbrush I had intense smells in the house and now in the man cave, but now it's time to stop spreading the fumes from my Humbrol enamels and synthetic thinners around the man cave and surroundings. Now everything will come out through the facade ventilation grill. I hope 🤔
1 3 April, 13:27

That's one impressive work/man/study/studio/cave. But. Where's the fridge packed with cold ones Rui 🤔? 🤟🥸🤘
1 3 April, 17:45

Books?!?! and non-modelling related ones? Get rid of them Rui! That's prime display space for your builds and dioramas!
1 3 April, 18:13

Hi There, @ Mark, the fridge is just under the drawing board;
@ CaptGPF, 😄 😄 😄 That was a photo of my brother-in-law book shelf, and ofcourse he keept the books.
I've just recycled it to make the 5 star display case in the corner of my living room 😉
I chose to use magnets instead of hinges, which allows for a completely tight and dust-free front.
Ok I change the teaser 🙂

projekt: Hawk Mark IX
11 31 March, 19:49

Just picked up the 15" 1/48 Space 1999 Hawk Mk IX Interceptor. Looks to be a very nice kit. Pleasantly surprised at the details, nice heavy plastic. I really wanted a big one of these, and this is the largest I could afford, so far it's well worth the money. Plus I bought it straight from the Gerry Anderson site, as it was cheaper than anywhere else. Thinking about scratching a cockpit interior for it, although in the show it didn't have one. Not sure what version I'll do, pre production, from the episode, or a custom version. But it'll be a fun build.
31 March, 19:55

That's it for today, just basic construction of engine rocket boosters, sponson rockets and painted the inside black, can't be bothered to scratch an interior this time, I'll tint the windows yellow, for a moody 70s look.
1 April, 13:57

Where I'm at so far, added the cockpit glass, slightly tinted. I'm painting anti flash black around the cockpit windows, as this seems logical.
3 April, 01:25

That's me done for today, built and painted the Hawk's Nuclear reactor chamber and main booster rocket.
3 April, 14:21

I lied, oddly for me I'm a bit addicted to this one. Fun so far, but now I need a break, not bothered about the obvious seam lines down the lower fuel tanks, as they get covered up by the pannier sponson booster rockets. more tomorrow.

Oh ya!
Built a couple of Broplan vac kits, a real challenge but great for the feeling of overcoming a challenge and creative accomplishment
11 July 2024, 23:27

OMG, what a challenge! 🙂 Those panel lines look quite uneven, will you try to rescribe them or just take them for what they are? In any way, I am super curious how these sheets of plastic can be turned into a model, so I will watch with interest!
12 July 2024, 02:31

Welcome mates, the panellines are aweful but the material is so thin, i'm scarred that i cut right trough it when i try to rescribe them.
12 July 2024, 06:24

Following. Got my first vacu kit this weekend. I hope I can learn something here.
16 July 2024, 14:48

Hi DuperScale, I built a couple of Broplan vac ATR kits, converting one 72 500 to a 42 300. A few pics of the work in my "albums" if you're interested in the kind of model you can achieve from a Broplan kit with a bit of work…sweat and tears, foul language, alcohol and time….
16 July 2024, 23:24

DuperScale, how about scribing into a layer of primer paint?
This way, scribing should be a lot easier afaik, scribing into the primer layer of paing, and not plastic.
This guy on youtube did this, on regular plastic models though.
20 August 2024, 05:21

As for the clear parts, I wonder if it could be done this way
1) Cut out a square/rectangle shape, removing the oval form from windows. The larger the hole the better, to create some extra space around the old window shape. Enough space to work with putty later on.
2) Glue in a flat thin strip of transparent styrene on inside of model.
3) Glue in a square/rectangle shape transparent styrene, outside the model, laminated with the existing strip of transparent styrene on inside, so double layered.
If keeping the new window parts larger than the old window shape it should be easier to use some putty after adding masking tape that have the shape of the old windows. The larger these new outer square/rectangle window shapes are, the easier it is to add putty to create a smooth surface, then hopefully the center part is clear enough, to mask off the final shape of the old window shape, before painting.
Afaik a common issue using Mikro Kristal Klear is that you can't sand the clear part afterwards, because the clear part is like rubber iirc. You can iirc easily remove this clear part though, just poke/pull it out. Unsure if there would be any residue left after removing the rubber like liquid clear stuff after it dries.
20 August 2024, 05:25

Another thing one could do with clear parts an idea:
1) Glue in a long strip of transparent styrene on inside of plane.
2) Add some kind of epoxy or something that can be sanded, without the epoxy damaging the underlying transparent styrene.
3) Idea is to use the liquid stuff to fill in the perfectly shaped holes for the windows, then sand the liquid stuff flush after it dries.
What won't work imo, is doing multiple rounds of adding liquids to create some goo that goes transparent. I think if you sand this stuff multiple times adding more liquid stuff, you get a flawed result I think. I tried something like that with gloss varnish, trying to build up a solid clear shape. Did not work as expected.
20 August 2024, 05:35

In this thread, and in photo #13, the guy apparently put tape outside, and poured clear resin on the inside to fill the window holes. Unsure if such resin will react and maybe eat up or warp any thin parts ala vacuum kits. I guess this can be tested with some scrap plastic if having some piece left over.
Boeing 737-530 Smart Wings 1:144 | Album by Zbynek (1:144)
20 August 2024, 07:35

The UV transparent resin is usually sandable (to some degree), maybe that might help?
Similarly to Treehugger I'd reinforce it with a transparent styrene from the inside of the fuselage anyway.
Or you might leave the windows open and fill them with Kristal Klear after painting - this is what I did on my Jetstream, Avanti & Yak-40. But if you want to seal it with gloss varnish, remember to keep very thin layers (guess how I learned it 🙂).

Hi, thanks for the input mates. I'm quite happy with the kristal clear on the small windows and i think i do it like Lukasz said. After everything is done i do the windows as the last step.
The windscreen window could work but i think i used little to much of the kristal clear.
20 August 2024, 16:10

Like the cockpit..👍
Lots of work but doing a 👍 job... Be rewarding when done.
17 September 2024, 20:48

The kit is coming together very good. You are skilled and brave!
Great to follow the journey to see the final result. 👍🏻
30 September 2024, 19:28

Thanks for the nice comments, from far away it looks good but the fit, lack of detail and scale problems are really annoying.😅
6 October 2024, 14:37

That's the main reason why I've never dared to try a vacu kit before. I've learned a lot from you. Looks good so far.
6 October 2024, 16:08

I agree with mates 👍
@DuperScale, I'm glad you're taking up this project again.
1 25 February, 20:14

Fantastic job! I am impressed with your skills and perseverance, chapeau bas!

So, as I had put before, we start with a splash of 140, then move to detailing it..
18 November 2024, 08:31

We do the black which I use Hu RC401 for, details picked out with artists pencils (grey and red)
some dirtying of the floor too
18 November 2024, 08:32

Instrument panels started, same as the rest of the tub, 140 base, rc401 for the black and then details picked out with a grey artists pencil.
19 November 2024, 00:43

So, fuselage is together with wings and before I go further, its that time to play the colour match dance..
So much so, while listening to some classic Huey Lewis and the News, I came up with new words for one of their songs.
Instead of "And get the honky-tonk blues" Its now "And get the color-match blues
and before you come at me, yes, I know its a cover.
26 November 2024, 18:35

Lol thanks Martin, I still have no idea why everyone raves about my paint jobs.
26 November 2024, 18:46

Hairy-stick-master......? Sounds like something from an erotic fetish video.... Im sure its some advanced building technique but i think a better name could have been picked..
26 November 2024, 18:47

Hairy stick is what the masters of the airbrush blow jobs call brushes
26 November 2024, 19:25

Oh alright. thanks. But now i can't get the picture of an airbrush giving someone a blow job out of my head.. thanks.. (btw i agree with Martin, from what ive seen you are very good with paintbrushes.)
26 November 2024, 19:47

Now for the most part she's together, started the paint.. Wings first because I wanted to see how the colour choices worked out..
30 November 2024, 15:12

Progress is ongoing... however now stripping the paint off for the 3rd time.. having a nightmare with this.
6 December 2024, 13:24

Welp, about a half a litre of paint, 5 meters of tape and this is where we're at. never have I had to strip and repaint a model more time's than this one
10 December 2024, 22:54

cockpit is just as I like them to be 🙂 and a vert colorful bird no doubt, I will tag along 🙂
10 December 2024, 23:00

Thanks Spanjaard, I have some repair work to do in the office, the stripping has caused some damage in there.
10 December 2024, 23:10

Oh and for those of you insane enough to try and replicate the colour scheme... good luck,
The dark blue is actually a two coat solution to get that colour, first is Airfix (yes seriously) M27, then a thin over coat of Humbrol acrylic 104.
The grey is humbrol 128
Then the other blue is a custom mix which was a nightmare
11 December 2024, 10:24

So, we're nearly there, some minor bleed issues to correct then its ready for gloss coat and decals.
15 December 2024, 03:02

Interesting camo, although swirly blue would be better camo to blend in with your desk. 😄
1 15 December 2024, 05:08

Thanks Gorby 🙂 Yeah the camo is unusual which when I saw it, I knew I would have to replicate.
15 December 2024, 18:38

Very interesting scheme 😀 never seen it before. Nice project, nice model 👍👍
15 December 2024, 21:00

I have some to do in that scheme.. good news is I can tell you the colours to use now 🙂
12 January, 02:30

So been so slow with this.. but the small decals are kinda destroying me lol.. so I managed to get a whole bunch done today

Following, that trick with separately painted stabs looks interesting 👍
1 20 March, 09:19

This looks like a great little model, and nice and clean build too. Watching with interest!
1 20 March, 19:31

very nice very net building. I have a question on painting : how many primer you did ? looks like according to the pics you based in grey then in black then again in grey before passing to the color. another question is what color did you use on the model ? thanks a lot in advance (I have one in my stash I picked up in Rzeszow and hope to do it one day !)
1 30 March, 13:08

Hi Naram
I put only one - black primer, sprues are grey
Underside of the wing is grey base color
I've used Hataka set

Good thing you didn't throw it away after all. This turned out really well! 👍 Too bad I'm not able to see it in real life this evening... 🙁

I started another quick OOB build. After a super small Spitfire, it's a small Bf-109
20 January, 15:09

In Police Service? Are you kidding me? What did they want to do with it?
Anyway, nice start. Peeking at this one for a nice OOB build too.
21 January, 18:51

Michael, they used them to keep deluded citizens from leaving the warm embrace of the homeland. And to interdict spies and other Western miscreans. Mostly flown by military pilots, so it was really a part of the Air Force. Czechoslovakia had a similar institution before 1939, primarily to keep Luftwaffe spy planes from infiltrating, and this continued this tradition, just against different enemies.
3 21 January, 19:28

Thank you, gents!
Michael, Alec's explanation is very accurate. There is nothing to add.
Thank you, Alec
1 22 January, 09:12

Thank you, mates!
I completed the main build. The fit of parts is absolutely excellent 👍
2 3 February, 12:29

interesting topic and very promising progress Jakub! Taking a seat 🙂
10 February, 09:54

Watching! I think I should send you my kits to have them built. I can't come close to this one!
10 February, 21:55

A quick OOB build @jakub?😉 The construction and paintwork is so well done that you would almost forget that this model is only a few cm tall. The pictures are a feast for the eyes.
17 February, 09:47

Thanks mates, for your comments!
Lukasz, i´m curious too 😄 I wiil try to mix it to match the red color used on decals.
Bohrmann, i thought i would be faster 😄
1 17 February, 13:59

It looks excellent. Love the subtlety of the shading, but you can still definitely see it on the photos. May I ask how you use that Wauchop mix on pic 18?
18 February, 07:44

Thank you, mates!
Alberto, i use ,,wauchop mix´´ and insignia white both the same way. First i spray camouflge color. Then i mix this color with wauchop mix and spray darker patterns (over panel lines and some random rivet lines) Then i do the same with the mix of camo color and white. Finaly, i respray the whole surface with diluted camouflage color to achieve the desired contrast. this procedure can be repeated until you are satisfied.
1 18 February, 12:28

So, Wauchop mix is a murky brown to use as a contrasting warm mixing color to the camouflage color? Whereas the white is the color for the bleached variant of that same camouflage color?
18 February, 17:28

Yes Patrick. I am using it this way. And during weathering steps, you may use this black-brown mix to create some dirt using an airbrush gun.
18 February, 18:10

Looking at your results, this might be a very interesting way to obtain some differentiating shading. Do you have a mixing ratio at hand, so I can give it a try myself? Thanks in advance! 🙂
18 February, 18:44

I'm sorry Patrick, i'm not able to tell you a mixing ratio. I just mixed some amount of black and brown to create some ,,dirty color". But i think, that it is not very important. For this purpose you just need some dark color. Maybe dark grey will work the same way.
This is how Chris Wauchop use his mix for postshading: chriswauchop.com/201..s-a-kittyhawk-mk-1a/
19 February, 09:54

No worries! I'll just mix a dirty brown concoction and experiment a bit. 😉 Thanks for that Kittyhawk link btw!
1 19 February, 14:06

Thank you Alec and Lukasz!
In the end i changed a mix ratio a little bit. So, the final ratio was app: 55% C81 russet
35% H17 cocoa brown
10% LP35 insignia white
25 February, 14:30

I agree with Alec and Łukasz. Very nice painting job.
@Jakub, thanks for the red color mix information 👍
2 25 February, 20:18

Thanks mates!
I finished the airbrush gun work and applied a layer of glossy varnish. Now, i´m ready for decals.
2 2 March, 18:45

Really great work, Jakube! Fantastic job with the painting and tonal layers of each shade.
2 March, 21:06

Great work so far. I like the paint job, but the decals bring her realy to life. I can't wait to see her finished. 👍
4 March, 07:00

A nice looking bird (that is not a euphemism or a double entendre) Jakub. 🤘🥸🤟
4 March, 21:47

Thank you, Mr D! Riveting is not my work. This kit is comletely riveted by the producer
1 5 March, 09:38

It's really fascinating to see how this model is developing, step by step. What strikes me is that you just can't tell that this is a 1/72 scale model, even when you zoom in with the camera., also considering that the ME-109 is a small aircraft in real life. It is just flawless and made with very great care. Should I be told that this is a 1/32 I would have no doubt that it is. Great work!
1 10 March, 14:43

Thank you very much, mates, for your kind comments!
Lukasz, i was definitely more drunk then brave when i was overspraying decals 😄 Of course, i screw it up, so it took two evenings to fix it 😄
1 11 March, 19:57

Jakube, it looks really great!
And if I didn't know it is in 1/72, I'd bet it's in 1/48.
1 12 March, 04:39

That is what I call beautiful painting! And a very clean and neat build too.
1 15 March, 14:17

Jakub, I must admit I'm a bit tired to see 109, because you see so many on every exhibition. But at least yours got a different livre painted on. And your build and paintwork are, as always, beyond any doubt.
3 2 April, 16:49

Thank you very much, mates, for your kind comments! I really appreciate your support! Bughunter and Zbyněk, I agree with you, 109's are everywhere. But I wanted to have an Avia in this livery in my showcase. Next on the workbench is Morane Saulnier M.S. 406 and then Sopwith Camel. So I believe it won't be that mainstream anymore 😄
2 2 April, 23:58

I've uploaded all the photos of the finished model. There are probably a bit more than needed, so I hope you won't find it boring to look through them. I have to admit, I'm too lazy to decide which ones to choose 😄
1 3 April, 00:04

Simply wonderful... It can't get bored looking at those final pics.
Congrats once again, Jakub!
2 3 April, 17:31

Jakub, very nice mule. Excellent finish with fine details and service wear. 👍 👍 👍
Air Force Security markings match the Avia very well. 😉

The 'Field Workshop' from Minicraft has been running for a while now, and now I've decided to finish it: I can use parts of it quite well when equipping the Junkers D.1 picture-documentation!
I would have liked a little more detail in one or two places - for example on the fittings of the pressurised bottles - Minicraft has a very good reputation here, but otherwise I'm very pleased with the subject matter and the kit design. The pictures show my attempt to breathe a little life into this beautiful and well-made kit parts. You should be able to find excerpts of them in pictures of completed models - so there will be a chance to see them again! 🙂
29 July 2024, 17:33

Very nice. I am going to use this kit in a plane diorama.yours is beautifully painted.
3 April, 08:23

Very nice! All the items look very effective and should make your completed builds look even more realistic.
3 April, 08:30

Thank you very much, mates! Great that you like it- I wish a lot of enjoyment with this modelling project a little off the beaten track

Thank you!
Unfortunately i cracked the Upper hull while drilling the cable insert for the lights.
Put it on hold for now till my temper about brittle plastic wears off.
10 August 2020, 10:30

I know the feeling! In my case it's a lost positioning light that caused to put my Sd.Kfz. 7 on hold. It was a half-round clear part, difficult to hold with tweezers. Fling! And off it went, never to be seen again...
10 August 2020, 11:25

Yeah I the insane search and rescue on the floor.
Lost one of the towing hooks on this kit too.
Lucky it has almost all minor parts double included.
Actually pretty good kit, the plastic is just not suited for further reworking.
Started a KV-1 for now.
10 August 2020, 16:15

What a coincidence: I'm also building a KV-1, the 1942 model with the simplified welded turret from Trumpeter. I tried to imitate cast steel on the gun mantlet and trunnion, although I have to say you did a much better job on your T-34 turret!
11 August 2020, 06:40

Thank you very much, I guess beginners luck.
For the T-34/76 I used Cement in combination with Mr. 500 which worked really well.
The casting was partially already on the kit (turret & MG mantlet) but it was extremely coarse and completely out of scale. I sanded it down and redid it with mentioned method above. Rolled steel was done with the same method only sanded much finer and almost to a flat finish.
Nice I started with KV-1E.
Will upload some pictures.
Did textures there as well, this time a bit different as I followed a recommendation using Cement & Tamiya basic putty.
12 August 2020, 01:51

The surface texturing you applied came out very good. It is a technique which I wish to emulate in future.
23 June 2021, 06:02

Very impressed not only with the finished results, but also your attention to the smallest details! Respect 🙂
23 June 2021, 07:52

@Villiers, Night Shift on YouTube has a great tutorial about doing the surfacing texture. It adds so much and it seems pretty simple.
