Fireball Dragster - Atlantis Model Retro
Nothing but serious modeling here...an Atlantis Models retro re-issue of a drag racer....
...three paint and decal schemes...the decals are fresh...the molds are "legacy"
....everything in white styrene....
...with helpful jaunty guide on the instructions....
....there was a piece missing and the folks at Atlantis quickly replaced it...impressive....
....off it goes....painting is first....
.....the engine will get some detailing.....the local modeler is not an engine builder so expectations are low....
.....this will be fun....aftermarket spark plug wires and magneto......wiring loom....full dragster seatbelt set.....hood scoop.....and fold it yourself drag parachute...I have never tried to do any real wiring loom work......several sets of wires were purchased so one or more could be messed up....
....Fun with wiring looms...this was easy and the parts fit well....Makes me want to try more elaborate wiring schemes...next time....the black tube will be cut into small sections to make spark plug boots....
....now, this is an upgrade....kit piece on the left....resin hood scoop on the right....good thing there are 5 more for all the dragsters in the stash here....
....this drag chute will be constructed....after the very precise and extensive instructions are read...
....the seat belt/harness assembly was fun to put together....the 5 belt option was chosen....the little name tag is a seat belt manufacturer...
....this was fun and easy and there isn't a lot of detail so no pressure.....the plug wires and resin air blower really help...now, this thing is ready to make tremendous noise and use massive fuel.....
....ooops....the plugs will not fit on the engine with it mounted...of course, i did not check this beforehand....
...so, both exhausts were carefully removed so they can install pointed up....
...the decal set actually shows two cars with the exhaust pointed up and only one with it down.....
...actual modeling!...scratchbuilding mounts for exhaust so they will point up.....
....it worked and the plugs and exhaust and engine mounts are all in sync now....the final will have the dragster with a bit of a wheelie like this......
...the carpet monster ate the original kit rollbar...which is good because it was fun to bend something to fit....
....after the belts were attached to the new rollbar...happy with this seatbelt install all around....
...more scratchbuilding!! a mount for the drag chute to come...
....all done....photos to follow....fun kit this one and a change of pace...
