Just a small sign of life following exhausting weeks at work. Only very less time for modelmaking I start a small project, inspired by Mathias Carl's tiny Admiral Graf Spee, to finally finish a new model soon.
For this I choose Spidernavy's white metal casted HMS Starling in scale 1/1250. This is a pre painted and assembled collectors model in scale 1/1250. Usually bought by ship model collectors these small but detailed models are a good basic to add some more details and paint to display the ship on a small display. Quite faster than to work on big ship models in scales up to 1/350🙂
I cut of the main mast and main gun tubes as well as the boats and boat davids. The paint was removed dipping the white metal model in White Spirit. The paint could be easily stippled of using an old brush. Free of any paint I cleaned the model using steel wool. Then I sart rebuilding the main mast using 0,2mm steel rod and 0,1mm brass rod. Brass rod was used too to replace the gun tubes. Some more details like new boat davids etc. are made of 0,1 and 0,2mm rod.
The small sea base was made of Fimo knead. Still remains to make new davids for the boats on port and starboard before I can start to pint repaint the model. Later I will add some small railing and the rig, so stay tuned.
Cheer, Christian

Ah, the return of Christian`s Giant Redwood pencil ..... The Starling was " Johnnie " Walkers Ship, am I remebering right ?
Excellent microscopic work on barrels and mast. I like the idea of the base too.

Ah sehr schön anzusehen. 👍
Ich bin schon auf das Endergebnis gespannt, somit werde ich hier immer schön reinschauen.
Motiviert mich vielleicht dazu, meinen 2400er Prinzen fertig zukriegen.
Modelle: Das einzige Mal, dass sich Männer streiten, wer "den Kleineren" hat. 😉

yeah - I thought you would consider one day 1:350 as a too big scale 🙂

Hi mates, thank you very much for all your kind comments, I much appreciate it! Good to get it in one piece. So it is only a challenge to paint and not to assemble the model😉
@Hehe Mathias, size doesn't matter - well said🙂
Yep Hanno, she will present Walkers 2nd Escort Group flagship from 1943 on. I much like these class of ships because of the clear and straight line and look. The Black Swan Class was originally build for AA support but then served as one of the best sub hunters during the war.
Walker was genius but vigorously in hunting submarines. If I'm right there was no sub he detected that survived the following hunt. He was a specialist in ASW warfare and found out several new tactics, like the creping attack or barrage at ack. Well be all losses by creping or barrage attack never known to its cause to the German Naval staff during the war, so no evasive action was found.

Thank you mates🙂
I'm always wondering about the high detail level and casting of these tiny white metal stuff. Same with the scale 1/285 AVFs I build for some time.
In the case of this model the master pattern was made by a printed 3D model. This company has some more nice ships in their program and I thing I will buy some more🙂
