After a small break i started my new project. This time it is an Syrian T-62 that was used in the Yom Kippur War. I am planning to add some stowage to the turret and maybe some tank crew figures if i can find some that will fit. The only figures that i found so far are the iraq tankers from CMK.

Looking forward to see what you'll do with this kit.

I have search around an i think i can use the soviet tank crew figures from the sets like Dragon 3010, Trumpeter 00435 or ICM 35601. Looked like the syrian tankers had the same clothes or nearly the same. Maybe i add some Moustaches 🙂

Interesting subject and great start! Are the tracks link and length ? And are they glued on the wheels ? I'm asking since i'm curious how will you paint the wheels (tires and all) and the tracks, i'm facing similar issues on another subject.

Hey Dan the tracks are single link, not workable (kit tracks) and are not glued to the wheels. The wheels are also not glued to the lower hull just fixed in place with blu-tack. Its easy to dismantle and paint the wheels and tracks separately.
You just have to clean all links for one side, put them together and apply glue. Wait for 5-10 Minutes and you can set them in place.

Have you considered sanding off the texture of the rubber rims or are you going with the "fresh out of the factory" look?
27 September 2016, 13:26
Ingo F
Fabian i am going to sand them off. I am planning to build a used tank with scratches, chipping and maybe one missing front mudguard.

Slow progress right now. Added some wirings.

Nice progress. Word of advice: Try to fill the gap around the turret ring before you add that little guard rail. And you should probably paint the areas that will be blocked by the storage boxes before you attach them. Had a hard time getting paint "down there".

Thank you for the advice, will to that. I successfully blended out that there is a gap to fill. 🙂

Lower hull is done. Took me quite some time to finish it. Started with turret. Right now i am enhancing the hatches as i will leave them open.

Love all the wiring! Great job Ingo! Is the brass wire for the tow cable included in the kit ?
10 October 2016, 19:32
Ingo F
Thank you Spanjaard and Dan! 🙂
Yes Dan the brass wire is included in the kit. You receive an 25 / 26 cm piece of brasswire. You will need 10cm for the front tow cable and 11cm for the rear cable.

And here i was thinking that i will finish the turret fast ... nope. I have enhanced the commander hatch with more details. The loader sight (?) pic 29 was a simple hole with a cap on it and without any clear plastic sight. I closed the hole with a piece of a plastic card and added an sight from my spare parts box.
Four spare ammo boxes were added to the side of the turret, two of them were removed later. I am going to display a tank in a war and i dont think that the tank has a complete set of spare ammo boxes.
Parts from an old PE fret were use to create the ammo boxes holder.

Finished. Took me some time to finish this one but now its done. I added some details like cabling for the lights, revomed two ammo boxes and instead created two empty ammo box holder with straps.
Next step will be priming and preshading.

Looking good 👍. Is the metal barrel included in the kit ?
21 October 2016, 19:07
Ingo F
Thank you Dan. Yes the metal barrel is included in the kit. You can choose between a metal or an plastic one.

Thanks James. Yes they really are nice kits. Got two other T-62 kits in my stash. The T-62MV (ERA) and T-62M with BDD armour. Cant wait to build them. 🙂

Finished the camo, wheels, tracks and fuel drums. I decided to paint the drums in different colors, one in russian green as it was an additional to tank like the ammo boxes. Another drum was painted black as it was taken from an civilian use. I am not sure if i should paint the ammo boxes at the side of the turret sand color or russian green. Cant find any reference pictures of the ammo boxes on syrian tanks.

Nice work so far. In regard to the ammo boxes, the ones here are green, but I've seen yellow ones too. So maybe both?[img1]

Thank you Fabian! I think i will go with green color on the turret and sand color on the MG.

Put a wash/pigment mix on the tracks, lower hull, wheels and barrels. After it dried brushed some of the pigments down and added some brown wash to break the color and some difference.
The tracks were dry brushed with dark steel pigments.
Next step will be chipping.

Finished the model. This is my image of an tank during a real combat and a vehicle that is not maintained much. I used the matt varnish but it looks too shiny for me. I think i will put another layer of varnish.
Right now i am working on the tank crew. Unfortunately there are not many pictures aroud that shows syrian tankers of this time. I was planing to go with soviet crew from Dragon and ICM and maybe modify them a little.

Nice chipping indeed.
It's pretty sad that there are just about 5 crew set that have to cover the whole soviet block...

Thanks Fabian. Yeah you are right, we really need more cold war and modern tank crews.😉
