Revell F/A-18E Super Hornet

Throwing some plastic together. Going to do this one wheels up on a stand.

As this will be in flight, I'm using seamless intakes.

Test fitting the resin pilot, in the resin seat, in the kit cockpit tub
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/4/1/1/282411-20839-45-720.jpg)
Intakes in. Took some modification to the kit fuselage, but they do look great.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/4/1/2/282412-20839-80-720.jpg)
The tradeoff is these bypass vents aren't open like on the kit parts.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/4/1/3/282413-20839-27-720.jpg)
Gear doors clearly weren't meant to be closed.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/4/1/4/282414-20839-71-720.jpg)
Typical revell.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/4/1/5/282415-20839-31-720.jpg)
After some sanding...
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/4/1/6/282416-20839-48-720.jpg)
Went ahead and glued the nose to the fuselage bottom. The fit is really good.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/6/7/6/282676-20839-11-720.jpg)
It took me about an hour to work my way around the fuselage halves. The fit isn't bad, and where it is, it will be relatively easy to sand.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/6/7/7/282677-20839-74-720.jpg)
Wonderful fit at the wing tip. Ugh.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/6/7/8/282678-20839-38-720.jpg)
Compressor faces look good in the seamless intakes
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/7/4/4/282744-20839-39-720.jpg)
As far as volume goes, this is probably the most putty I have ever put on a model. The fit isn't *bad* but it's just not good, either. Lots of seams need attention.

Primed. I see a few spots that need some attention, but nothing too bad.

Masked and primed canopy frames and seals.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/2/5/7/285257-20839-42-720.jpg)
Remasked canopy to cover the seal. Filled and sanded the cockpit joint. Ready for angle of attack sensors and final coat of primer.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/3/7/7/285377-20839-32-720.jpg)
Spent a little time on the tail hook.

I had a set of AOA sensors for an F-16, so I used them. I will replace those with the sensors that I had ordered and am waiting on.

Which Revell kit was used for this project ? Can you please mention it or add it project ?

Cortex, I added the kit from my stash to the project inventory.

Spanjaard, Holger, etc, thanks. This kit is more like sculpting than model building.😉

Spanjaard, it's not a bad kit, but it needs some work that is atypical with modern kits. And, I would classify this as a modern kit (2005?).

I'm in. I have 4 of those critters, and I plan on doing one in VF-143 markings also as well as an F-14A. It is looking good so far, great job as always sir.

Derek are those resin intakes? and if so where did you find them?

Clifford, those are seamless resin intakes. They are .are by a company called Rhino. I found them on ebay.
It's a trade off to use them. The external detail is better on the kit parts, but getting the interior seam fixed is always a problem.

That is fantastic! I love in-flight builds. Your subtle weathering is perfect. Well done!

Thanks! I'm going to get it in the light box later tonight for some better photos.

Some of your pics look like the real thing photographed in flight. Nicely Done!

I agree with Jay, those new pics look like the real thing. Sublime weathering, especially on the underside . The weathering on the centerline tank is amazing!

Thanks everyone. I'm pretty happy with this one, especially given the mediocre quality of the kit.
It's funny how many people comment on the centerline tank weathering. Its just amazing what other modelers notice.

really nice end result. fantastic bird.
how do you attach the transparent rod? what material is it and were do you find it?

![](/profiles/img/20839-840-s.jpg)
That is 1/4" clear acrylic rod I purchased on Amazon. Pretty cheap. Simply drill a hole and use some clear 30 minute epoxy.
