Hasegawa G8N1 Renzan (Rita)

Just a basic build, no real weathering or extra details. A bit of pre-shading and mild exhaust streaks.

At one point, this prototype had no numerals on it's vertical tail and black cowlings. I think it was the last one built.

I used Easy Line for the antennas.

Except for the flight control surfaces, the panel lines were fine raised ones, not scribed. Typical of early Hasegawa kits.

It took a lot of filler to smooth out the nacelles. The Quickboost exhausts were a welcome addition.

It took a brave soul to sit back there on any bomber. This guy did have two 20mm cannons though!

Not too much going on inside this model! At least they give you some bombs!

The Rita was a good looking bird!

Thanks Stephan. The orange looks brighter than it actually is, due to colour variations in digital reproduction. I might manipulate it a bit in my Nikon program.

Awesome looking bomber. I did not know Japan even had a 4 engine bomber. Learn something new all the time.

It was an incredible aircraft that came too late in the war to be of any use. Only 4 built, but it had a range of more than 4,000 miles! It could carry 8,800 pounds of bomb load and cruised at 320 mph! Top speed was 370 mph.

I like it. I had never done a Japanese prototype before this one. Can't miss that colour!

I think the Japanese wanted their prototypes to stand out! Maybe it reduced the "Friendly Fire" incidents.

Album info
One of the four Renzans that were built before the Pacific War ended. A very early Hasegawa mould of fairly good quality except for the fit of some items like the engine nacelles (horrible) and the exhausts, which I replaced with Quickboost bits. I bought this kit about 7 years ago at a swap meet.
