Flying Tiger Progress
Cockpit 1
Cockpit 2
Instrument panel. I only used the top part from the Eduard kit. The kit instrument panel is really nicely detailed.
Eduard photo etched parts for the air intake in the nose. I was a bit heavy handed with the dry brushing, but its not going to be seen anyway 😉
More photo etch from the Eduard kit.
The cockpit fully assembled and inserted in the fuselage.
Showcasing some of the really nice and crisp detail of this kit.
The progress so far. Next will be adding the canopy and masking.
Base camoflage finished.
Underside color laid down.
Left side. I also painted the blue ribbon instead of using the decal.
The blending in of the gun part into the wing was successful.
Right side camoflage. I used the same colors as for the spitfire and the Lancaster.
A few problem areas that I just didn't make a good job with. They should be blended in.
Decals are on. Not alot of stencils in this set. Only the standard markings.
A quick and easy fix. I added a couple of extra teeth to the shark mouth with a permanent marker. I think it looks better this way.
Everything is ready for weathering. There are some small parts left that I will add and weather separately.
Finished
Auxiliary fuel tank.
Some external PE detail.
Some more PE detail in the cockpit, and the gun sight.
I used a bit of aluminium foil for the mirror.
Side view.
Finished.
Top view.

Thanks guys! Hopefully the rest of the build will be as smooth as the start 🙂. I really like building this kit.

Thanks Erik for pointing that out. I also noticed that I need to blend in the gun mounts in the wings. Unfortunately, sanding and filling isn't my strength, so I will hope that I can hide some of my short comings with the paint😉.

Added a few progress images. Base camo is finished. I'm sad to say I just didn't do a good enough job with the blending of the problem areas in the fuselage. Hopefully someone can learn by looking at my mistakes 🙂

Yes, that was actually a mistake.. I painted the front white before decaling and realized my mistake first when it was time to apply the shark mouth. As you can see when comparing it to the box art it is a little off. I'm thinking about doing some painting to bring the mouth all the way to the edge. I'm really stacking up the mistakes on this build 🙂.

Looks superb to me. You see all the defects, I just see an awesome shark mouth P-40 taking shape

Thanks Scott for the support! I did a quick fix and added an extra tooth in the upper and lower jaws. To me it looks better now 🙂.

The P-40E from Hasegawa is finished. I really like this kit. It has nice details and a good fit. I used the Eduard photo etch kit for some of the detail, but I didn't use all of it as the kit already had nice detail level for some of the parts in the PE kit.

Thanks Timothy, Mike, Clifford and David!
@David, the pace is slowing down. The two builds I've started now will be a more work than this. Lots of PE to bend..😉
