Academy F-4J VF-84 th - WIP & Completed
Bags of goodies!
Cockpit parts sanded down for PE. Feels strange kinda butchering your kit. 😄
Photoetch starting to look damn good!
More photoetch - weathering and matte coat tomorrow! 😄
Cockpit tub shaping up nicely!
The PE for the ejection seats will haunt me in my dreams - but after all, I think it looks gorgeous!
Yes, it reaaaaally turned out lovely
Testfitting into the cockpit tub: looking great, if I dare say so!
Yeah, this turned out pretty neat - the pics don't do it enough justice!
It's starting to resemble some sort of plane! The fit of this kit is excellent, a pleasure to build!
Preshading and mottling and stuff - right afterwards I managed to paint it DARK gull grey instead of light gull grey. FML. :'(
After botching the main color coat I think I managed to rescue it. 🙂
Yeah, turning out better than I feared!! Some minor touch ups, but we basically approach final assembly! 🙂
The PE Cockpit turned out reaaaally nice
Ready for a bit of gloss and decalling! 🙂
Pretty feet, the lady - I want to use better metal colors next up!
Gotta love the transparent blue windshield (it's appearing darker as-is on this picture).
The wheel bays are a bit basic, but not bad at all in the big picture!
While I like how the oil paint weathering turned out, I really want to test the AlcladII metal lacquers on my next projects.
The cockpit section turned out awesome, if I dare say so!
The PE parts turned out so cool!
I not only finished the model but also my new modelling corner in my man cave! 🙂

Haha, thanks man - I am really trying to improve this one again, since I got a sweet spot with them F-4s! 😄
At least my vacation starts on December 14th, so I might have a chance to finish this one till then - I have a sneaking suspicion that my girlfriend will put a certain Su-35 under the christmas tree...😉

Konrad -
Following too seems to be a nice project! I've got the same one just in 1/72 scale.

Yeah, first time using it - I am really happy with how it looks right now, the pictures don't give it enough credit! It was less of a hassle to work with than I feared, too! Highly recommended! 🙂

If you hadn't mentioned the dark gull grey issue, I wouldn't have noticed. It turned out really great!

*phew* Thanks for your kind words, Patrick! I was *so sure* it was dark gull grey that I didn't bother doublechecking. I don't even know why I thought that, maybe because I was researching on Luftwaffe basaltgrau earlier that day. xD

Thanks so much, Konrad and Martin! Got the weapons built, will prime and paint them in 2018, decal it all up and should yet finish during my vacation 😄

So, I dare to call that one finished! The kit itself has been an absolute pleasure to build save for some verrrryyyyyy few things, that were a bit ambigous in the manual, some fiddly things and some decals that are bigger than on the decal instructions.
All in all I cursed far, far less than with my late Revell kits and I already decided on getting another Academy F-4 in the near future!
Worksmanship-wise: it's a bit mixed. I managed to damage the chevron-decal (but think I fixed it alright), had some major airbrushing hiccups - could have been better, but it still has been a ton of fun AND I think I managed to rectify all major errors rather nicely so I am really proud right now.
Next kit will be a smaller / faster / quicker one, though 😄

Started building the brilliant Academy F-4J kit today. This will be a challenge, especially since I will be using PE for the first time 😄
