Must say kit has great detail but I'm making heavy weather as if I can make a mistake I am and if there is something to break off I have and not even closed it up yet. None of this is the kits fault just my hamfistedness

Great detailed kit shame about decals (old). All troubles I had were due to me not kit final disaster was lose of front undercarriage main door! No idea when I lost it or where it went 🙁

Despite your issues it came out looking really good. The front door will apprear in a month or two. LOL

Very nice! I don't ever recall having seen a Sabre with an open cockpit. Looks especially great on that jet I think. 🙂 I guess this reminds me of that movie with that old guy flying a jet in an age where petrol is scarce.

Looks amazing. I have to agree with Trehugger about the open canopy. Nice touch. And see I said the door would reappear. Granted it was shorter than I guessed. LOL

That's a great looking F-86. Congratulations. I haven't found any reviews of the Academy F-86. Do you have any thoughts on this kit compared to the Hasagawa? The Hasagawa F-86 mis very good but very expensive on eBay.
Thanks, Paul

#Paul Moore I've not had any experience with the Hasagawa kit but if if I recall the academy kit was a fairly straight forward build and issue I had were my own making ( not checking the fit of the weights etc) the main issue I had was the decals which were fragile but there are loads of after market ones. I'm also not a rivet counter so can't comment how accurate the kit is I just enjoy the build. I'm sure which ever kit you get you'll enjoy the build

Hi Sy , built this kit on SM not so long ago. I has issues with the fit of the from gun door and fragile decals. Must say you e done brilliantly with the mid fuselage band.. mine wouldn't fit and wrinkled everywhere, I managed to "persuade" the wrinkles to the underside.
I. Also have the Hase AND the old Esci/Italeri in the stash.
Great result by the way , what paint did you use,?

#David H I had problems with the decals too they were both brittle and thick 🤪 it took many applications of the strongest decal softener I had (Ultamate decal setting solution - Extra Strong) even then they only just went down. Can remember if there should have been a decal for the yellow nose but I never tried it and just painted it myself.
The metal paints where AK Interactive Xtreme metals, I know I used AK481 Polished Aluminium and the contrast colour I think was AK480 Dark Aluminium, I was pleased with the result. One word of warning if I was to do again I'd seal the Xtreme paint with a protective coat if I was to use enamel pin wash as the orderless thinner seam to lift the Xtreme paint, luckily I'd primed in grey so the effect luckily gave a weathered look and I finished the "pin wash" with Pro Modeller weathering was Dark Dirt.
Oh one more point just remembered the clear decal film appeared to be affected by the Xtreme paint and showed more than I'd have like so I will definitely try a clear gloss coat before decals and washes next time
