"Rock You Like a Hurricane" (or possibly just build you)
Relax ladies, they’re married.....
a great example of a pilot's ability to land in a small space, (or perhaps not).
drilled out the seat and rear bulkhead to make the PE attachments easier
I added a bit of soldering wire to the already detailed bay
undercoat of Vallejo primer, and trying the technique of layering the Sky Type-B over it on the undersides....quite happy. Wheel wells need matt aluminium adding. A few dry-fit issues here mating upper to lower wings around the wheel wells..., but ultimately resolved with a little surgery
a coat of Vallejo dark earth over the black primer....trying the new shading technique
Mr Color Metallic (used on Tu-128: Aluminium), quick buff with a soft brush, ready for some Klear and washes.
Alma's PE is great to work with...the cockpit in this scale a truly detailed affair.
Wings mated. A bit of aluminium touch up in the W/well too. Drilled out ejection holes for 0.303s
The level of detail in this scale is fantastic-as good as Eduard or Tamiya- managed to snap the piece though ????
The port side cockpit wall is in around 8 pieces of PE and plastic. It looks much better in real life than through the iPhone lens. I’ve shot some matt varnish over the aluminium, used Humbrol enamel 78 for the interior green, diluted
Humbrol 78 and 71 (linen) and Mr Color Metallics’ aluminium with a splash of Blue for the lever completes the pilot’s tub.
7 pieces make this up, 2 - decals, 4 - PE, the instructions have them sandwiched in the wrong order. Also, the gyro cradle PE is one tricky piece to fold correctly, but I’ve done the best I could.
The cockpit is beautifully detailed, however very very delicate and cramped. I’m having to ditch some of the side wall detail to make it work, over 2 hours on this step alone!
The underside: as you can see I’m using Blu-Tak to dry fit pieces and have lost one of the tubular cages- will add a modified version of it. It’s a pity Arma have perhaps been over-ambitious at this scale?
Happier with the floor here, but again a delicate fit to the fuselage will ensue....
With a little wash, and the handle painted black
A little clamp-persuasion was needed, the small gap at the forward section of the cockpit has disappeared and I’m satisfied with the overall fit. Sadly most of the incredible detail is lost in there- even with the canopy opened (which I intend to do)
Great fit, little or no work needed here afterwards
trying Eduard's camo-masks for the first time as I don't like the Blu-tak masking method. Will report how this went once they're removed. Vallejo RAF dark green next....
all prepped and ready for the next scheme.
decals are nice and thin, many stencils too.
needs a bit of weathering to blend in the decals' brightness
painted the red gun ports- Arma provides a decal, but in MHO not necessary. I wish the fin decal would not have split at the leading edge...requires some painting/weathering to make good.
will tone-down the ejector hole smoke...a bit over done for my liking.
just a little PE on the undersides, the landing lights and in say 5 hours we should be complete!
we weren't sure if the wings' roundels were too bright compared to the fin flashes. Perhaps they are, but the others provided wouldn't be suitable either. So I will subtly darken them with washes to bring them down a touch.
canopy open to allow one to drink-in all that cockpit detail.
Declaring it ‘done’

Box art has an interesting feature - the armourers used to dope cloth patches over the gun holes to stop crap getting in between arming and getting to the fight - and these ones are covered.

absolutely!, and I guess you either model them closed or opened depending on whether they've been out on a sortie or not?

My first Airfix kit was the 1:72 Hurricane.. I remember I used Humbrol 'duck egg blue' paint for the underside of the plane.
I always preferred the Hurricane above the Spit.

@Dick: the big myth about 'our finest hour'...more Hurricanes took down the Luftwaffe than ever did a Spit. I'm guessing a few Free-Dutch flew 'em too!?

Spits on the fighters, Hurris on the bombers - lots more Hurris than Spits too - both good planes and did a job. As for the patches, I'm covering them up with tissue paper soaked in white glue on my 1/24.

camo-masks for Hurricane.....not sure on Fresco scheme yet...Airfix Vietnam one too common...CCCP one maybe boring, but easier to try.

What would you say for the top one here?
MiG-17/Lim-5/6 in Polish ser...2 (ModelMaker D72047, 1:72)
Hi-Decal Line has it too 😉

Well chaps...I am awaiting my Reskit engines for the Tu-128/MiG-17, so can't really finish those projects. SO.....today I had a nibble at the Hurricane. Unusually, you begin with the main landing gear bays, (see 2 attached photos). Nice PE details and the plastic's good too....happy to stall and await our GB?...

you're only a few steps behind Guy, my wheel well was OK with a bit of manipulation, also the top/bottom wings required some clamps to persuade a good fit...I'll post some shots tonight.

@Łukasz, no- checked them and decal 17 are the roundels- it may be the register's a little brighter than one would like. But the others provided for other options aren't right either- so there's no mix up on the labelling. See photo

Yes, I'd agree- although maybe the light in the photos has played a little on their actual tone in real life. Techmod are usually pretty good- (do you mean use another sheet?, as it's theirs with this kit).

Yup, I had to buy another one as I want to build the UZ-V example, which is not provided by Arma.
Didn't spot the included sheet is Techmod's too, so anyway I'll have to cut the decals to reveal the panel lines😉

Thanks @Carlos Martin and @Guy Rump- I've done more on her today myself....PE and delicate plastics - I work in the morning before putting my contact lenses in (I'm very short sighted so close up work is so much easier). Just got to insert the landing lights and try to attached those PE handles to the canopy, followed by weathering and final matt varnish.....

@Cuajete: in fairness I have never built the new A/fix, and I believe it's good...but Arma is so well thought through, (perhaps too ambitious as I've stated in the build). However their attention to scale detail is super...take the landing lights...really distinct and engineered in this scale. I'm a couple of hours off saying "done"...

@Thomas: yes, the 4 guns collected together in each wing were more efficient at dispatching Do-17/He-111 and others than the Spitfire's which of course were spread over the wing.
