RF-101C SUN-RUN 4
This was the first of three (3) attempts to get the yellow bands correct. Problems stem from bad instruction sheets from Hasegawa and Kitty Hawk. Hasegawa has the issue of not actually matching the photographs of the real airplane. Kitty Hawk has the issue of the wrong stripes trying to fit on an F-101B fuselage. Overall, there are many issues to work through. First attempt at the stripes were too narrow and the geometry did not reach far enough aft onto the tail. The placement of the red turbine plane of rotation warning stripe is sadly going to be off because of the F-101B fuselage shape

This kit has eluded me for decades. From my first monogram attempt of the Koster conversion that I never finished to this kit started almost 5 years ago, it's time to put it in the books! I hope I can do it justice! Cheers Gentlemen!

Painted the yellow bands first with Mr. Color H329 yellow. Mr. Surfacer 1500 underneath. Totally cleaned the plastic first. Coated the yellow with Tamiya Clear Lacquer finish. Used Mr. Color Leveling thinner to clean off the plastic that was not going to get the yellow bands. Then masked the yellow and proceeded to paint the silver. Started with Alclad Polished Aluminum first. Shows every single imperfection in the plastic. Have touched it up several times. Now finishing the aluminum panels up and making sure there are no worn through spots in the aluminum finish. Next will be using the Vallejo Polyurethane Gloss Varnish to seal the polished aluminum. Then decals. Kitty Hawk Decals...

Finally!!! I got it done! I'm still correcting some of the panel line accents, but it's essentially done. It is a very long aircraft. I have discovered that some of the marking issues are a direct result of the F-101B fuselage being adapted to an RF-101C. This causes some very significant optical illusions versus the real aircraft. It also omits some fuselage details unique to the early RF-101C airframes. I am really glad to have it at this point. I hope you all will enjoy this build!

Absolute fingerprint fest. Went through some pretty painful stages getting it done. It's finally finished!

Mr James
You've done a lovely job. I agree that the nmf and yellow look great. Nicely painted

Love this jet and your build, I have a conversion kit to make a C version out of the Monogram RF-101B.

Thanks! Based on this build, I believe the F-101B fuselage is not the same length as the F-101C aft of the Main Landing Gear (MLG)
