I was interested in this kit. My hesitation comes from how did they do the decals? Do you have to paint the plane orange and place stripes or are the decals complete color?

@Donald yes indeed there are 2 huge decals sheets, the color is not really orange its bronze metallic, but changes with the light so very difficult to get it right, see the pics of the real thing

just posted some pics, the color is not the exact mix they suggest ; i did 75% Rv95 + 15% Rv30 + 10% Rv34, Rv stands for Revell Enamel

I like the color you came up with. I would have to figure out an equivalent with another type as Revell paints are more a European thing

@ Donald, i saw on your profile that you use Tamiya, i will try to make a mixture use them, i normally prefer to use acrylics myself, but since i still got an old stock of Revell i am trying to use them up.

@Donald I made two acrylic mixes one in Tamiya and the other in Vallejo
so here they are :

Vallejo 65% 70990 + 30% 70851 + 5% 70947

Tamiya 40% XF6 + 25% XF12 + 32% X6 + 3% X7

Thin both and let rest for at least 24 hours so the metallic parts can break down.
Make at least 30 tot 35 ml of paint.

When you starting to paint, prepare all parts the go in the 'Bronze'. Assemble the fuselage with the wings and the nose and tail. Leave off everything else and make sub assemblies. Like, airscoop, pito-tuber, canards, pylons , fueltanks center fin and underside flaps of the airintake, flap hinge 1 & 4., gear doors.

When you start spraying, you can leave time between layers, but paint all the parts in one go and everything the same amount of layers.

I made the mistake by first paint the fuselage, 3 layers, a few days later all the small parts, 3 layers again. No problem at that point. A week later i finally sanded the pylons and fuel tanks, paint 3 layers again, big color difference? The paint was more rust color, more brown. A good friend of me explained that it where the metallic parts in the paint that started, due to the thinner, to corrode and desintegrate. So i had to make a new badge of paint for these parts.

Hope this sets you a good step on the way.

Hi guys, jusrt added some new pics from the build, and to be honest I've had it with tiger stripes.
But, for all of you who want to build this one also, the decalling. To be honest I bought the kit 2 times because I also have the decals for the 'Battle of Britan' one/ So don't do what is described on the plan. I started like that and it didn't work out, restarted with the second set of decals from the second set.

How I did now, well you can see a little clue on the last picture.

Tsis is the way it did it.first paint the front edges from the tail, canards and air intakes with Revell Enamel 374.
Start with the decals on the tail, these you can fully place in one pieces, but cut of the grey part, don't throw this away because you need the yellow formation lights.

Next put the decals on the wings, I started from the wingtip inwards an i cutted them just afther each 'scratch' marking and try to remove as much clear film as possible.

Now you start to connect the stripes on the wings, from one to another, but cut out stripe by stripe, remove the clear film. This makes it possible for you ta abjust the decals a little bit to make it fit. Don't worry with little ornga gap between, when everything is dry, you touch up with black paint/ So put all the stripes on form the bacj till just on the front wingroot.

Now flip the model, and here you start with the decals around the front nose bay, also try to remove as much as possible clear film. Then proceed towards to nose. Then work your way towards the rear of the plane, As you can see on the picture from the underside, i didn't use certain narrow decals, e.g. the place for rocket, the hinges, and the outher pylons. Again these will be brush painted to match the stripes.

By removing the clear film, you have pro and cons.

The pro is that you have al smaller more manageble bits and with each stripe you place you can dajust little by little..
The con is that it takes a h$ll of a lot of time.

Hope this is any usefull tor those interested.

Given my experience with the stripes on the 1/32 Tornado Tiger Meet plane I did, I would have to agree with you. Remove the clear film between the stripes. As good as the decals are, they just plain fit better if you have that bit of extra wag room
