Thank you guys and welcome. Hope I live up to your expectations.
I have noticed that there is a completely missing part on the kit. But it is clearly visible on the real airplane. Have a look here: airliners.net/photo/..ornado-ECR/5002301/L
You can see an attachment on the underside at the front next to the nose gear doors, which is pointed at the front and has white dots/sensors. I will probably have to rebuild this. Does anyone know exactly what it is and what function it has?

Coming along nicely, but I wonder which missing part on the ECR you mean? I will also shamelessly 😉 copy your method of covering up the holes where the wings fold, great idea! 👍

Just noticed that there are no IRIS-T missiles with the kit. There are only AIM-9 Sidewinder included. But on all pictures I found of the 46+57 Tiger Tornado you can see the IRIS-T. So I'll check what I can do in this matter.
 20 February, 16:56

There are two in the Revell Eurofighter Tigermeet kits, if you want another colorfull Luftwaffe jet.

Alternatively you might want to invest in the Hasegawa set: Europe Aircraft Weapons Set (Hasegawa 35115, 1:72)

Thanks @DerMattes and @Łukasz for your recommendations. I found the IRIS-T as a free 3D file on Thingiverse and tried to print it in 1/72. But you can forget it. The file was designed for 1/9 and therefore far too delicate at 1/72, so the print didn't run cleanly. Well, I haven't really warmed up to my 3D printer yet anyway. At least the printed pilot and the ladder worked reasonably well.
In the end I actually ordered the Hasegawa kit. Eurofighters will certainly follow in the future, so I'll certainly need the missiles from the kit.
 24 February, 10:10
Maciej Bellos
The decals look great!

If you get Hasegawa's Eurofighter you get all the weapons Łukasz mentions. Hasegawa going out of their preferred way of selling weaponless kits. This kit has IRIS-T missiles for use in Greek F-16 Block 52+ nad Italian Tornados and Meteor missiles for use in Rafales. Quite the bargain me thinks.
1  24 February, 10:28
DerMattes
I did not know, that you have a 3d printer, try this free IRIS-T: cults3d.com/de/model..le-iris-t-look-alike
I printed some missiles from sufa312, like the Kormoran for my F-104G. Works great and detail is great.
1  24 February, 10:32
Chris T. An
Oh, the file from sufa312 really looks good and better to be able to print. I downloaded the file already and will check that out in the future. For now I will wait for the Hasegawa set.

Thx for you feedback 🙂🙂
The entire interior is lined with upholstery, which is primarily used for noise-insulation. Until yesterday, I broke my head because I didn't know how to repicate it… After a conversation with a mate (thx Hanno), the brilliant idea came to me: Fimo clay.
The material can be processed excellently and is solid in the oven after 30 minutes at 130°. The most important thing is that it does not become bone-hard but left elastic and can even be sanded.

This morning I was curious and unpacked the chassis of Jam-Screw. As already written, the quality is outstanding. But everything is so filigree that you have to be very careful and not to break anything when handling. I had to improvise a bit here and there. In the end, I was finished after 2 hours. Including preparation for laying the cables.

Thank you for the big praise. I am very happy to have such a large number of fans of this WIP.🙂🙂

A waterproof green rubber mat is laid on the cabin floor of the SeaKings of the German Navy. However, not under the equipment rack and not in the area of the „shower cabin" (radaroperator workstation). There, the rubber mat was left out, shortened and folded upwards.

At the points of the mountingpoints and other hatches, access covers (probably also made of rubber) are incorporated into the rubber mat.

I have hardly any experience with 3D printed parts, especially concerning the flexibility. The material used by Jam-Screw is quite brittle. Therefore, I decided to disconnect the axles and insert a wire. This also has the advantage that you can align the wheels precisely afterwards, especially because they are flattened.

Result of a modeling mini task: DIY FOD covers.
I wanted to be very „smart" and install the exhaust pipes from the outside after painting. I overlooked that the opening in the fuselage is much smaller than the „hidden" end. Therefore, I had to improvise: I sawed off the outer end and inserted them obliquely from the outside.

I'm glad I was able to inspire you for this machine. By the way, I was lucky/opportune to see the 89 + 63 and 83 + 58 live on Friday at the very last statics display in Nordholz. Hence the photos: in bright sunshine! All spotters were really lucky!🙂🙂

Oh yes, great pictures of the original - I really like the "stressed skin effect"!
And I learned recently during my visit in Oberursel museum (reported that on SM) how the filter works, which you show in pic260.
Fantastic modeling show here 👍

KyMustang: the Seaking - Kit of Airfix is on of few witch offers stressed skin.

Good morning Aaron,
thank you for the praise! That was indeed a great experience for me in Nordholz to see the 89+63 live on friday. 🙂I would have liked to see the Seaking in flight on saturday🙁

The decals have been created by a modeling-friend exclusively for me and our Seaking task force 🙂.

HSQ / Mr. Fienne Schola has released a sheet exactly for the 89+63. Here are two links.

In the last week I actually managed to instal all the parts without mess, breakdowns and disasters on the fuselage.

Although I am not finished yet (the parts for the rotor have not yet arrived from Australia) I wanted to share some photos of the details with you. 🙂

At this point I would first like to say thank you to my 4 modeling friends, without whom this project would not be possible.

To Thomas for his great photos that left no questions unanswered.

To David for his support by creating the outstanding decals.

To Felix for his boundless knowledge of helicopters and his tireless answers to my countless questions.

Last but not least to Carsten for his efforts in the creation of the seat cushions and his communication with the former technician of the Seakings: so I had „access" to hundreds of pages of the service manual, which a normal mortal does not get to see.🙂

OMG, what a challenge! 🙂 Those panel lines look quite uneven, will you try to rescribe them or just take them for what they are? In any way, I am super curious how these sheets of plastic can be turned into a model, so I will watch with interest!

Hi DuperScale, I built a couple of Broplan vac ATR kits, converting one 72 500 to a 42 300. A few pics of the work in my "albums" if you're interested in the kind of model you can achieve from a Broplan kit with a bit of work…sweat and tears, foul language, alcohol and time….

DuperScale, how about scribing into a layer of primer paint?
This way, scribing should be a lot easier afaik, scribing into the primer layer of paing, and not plastic.
This guy on youtube did this, on regular plastic models though.
 20 August 2024, 05:21
Treehugger
As for the clear parts, I wonder if it could be done this way
1) Cut out a square/rectangle shape, removing the oval form from windows. The larger the hole the better, to create some extra space around the old window shape. Enough space to work with putty later on.
2) Glue in a flat thin strip of transparent styrene on inside of model.
3) Glue in a square/rectangle shape transparent styrene, outside the model, laminated with the existing strip of transparent styrene on inside, so double layered.

If keeping the new window parts larger than the old window shape it should be easier to use some putty after adding masking tape that have the shape of the old windows. The larger these new outer square/rectangle window shapes are, the easier it is to add putty to create a smooth surface, then hopefully the center part is clear enough, to mask off the final shape of the old window shape, before painting.

Afaik a common issue using Mikro Kristal Klear is that you can't sand the clear part afterwards, because the clear part is like rubber iirc. You can iirc easily remove this clear part though, just poke/pull it out. Unsure if there would be any residue left after removing the rubber like liquid clear stuff after it dries.
 20 August 2024, 05:25
Treehugger
Another thing one could do with clear parts an idea:
1) Glue in a long strip of transparent styrene on inside of plane.
2) Add some kind of epoxy or something that can be sanded, without the epoxy damaging the underlying transparent styrene.
3) Idea is to use the liquid stuff to fill in the perfectly shaped holes for the windows, then sand the liquid stuff flush after it dries.

What won't work imo, is doing multiple rounds of adding liquids to create some goo that goes transparent. I think if you sand this stuff multiple times adding more liquid stuff, you get a flawed result I think. I tried something like that with gloss varnish, trying to build up a solid clear shape. Did not work as expected.
 20 August 2024, 05:35
Treehugger
In this thread, and in photo #13, the guy apparently put tape outside, and poured clear resin on the inside to fill the window holes. Unsure if such resin will react and maybe eat up or warp any thin parts ala vacuum kits. I guess this can be tested with some scrap plastic if having some piece left over.

The UV transparent resin is usually sandable (to some degree), maybe that might help?
Similarly to Treehugger I'd reinforce it with a transparent styrene from the inside of the fuselage anyway.
Or you might leave the windows open and fill them with Kristal Klear after painting - this is what I did on my Jetstream, Avanti & Yak-40. But if you want to seal it with gloss varnish, remember to keep very thin layers (guess how I learned it 🙂).

Hi, thanks for the input mates. I'm quite happy with the kristal clear on the small windows and i think i do it like Lukasz said. After everything is done i do the windows as the last step.

The windscreen window could work but i think i used little to much of the kristal clear.

After a long time I got into modelling and so managed to move a number of things forward. Now I have to let the putty cure properly on the transition between the pylon and the engine. And then the careful sanding and cleaning and final painting of the pylon and engine will begin.

I am impressed by how clean and evenly you cut out the windows. Which material did you use to cover the windows before pouring the resin. I use regular Cello tape but the resin dissolves the glue and this sticks to the windows.
 30 June 2024, 22:35
Zbynek Honzik
@Łukasz - I use either "little lenses" that I bought years ago at www.morellingtool.co.uk or nail glitter that I bought at a bead store.
I seal the headlight area first, then spray paint it matt black and glue the lights (glitter) in the appropriate places.
Then I sealed everything with transparent resin. After the resin hardened, I sanded everything to the shape of the leading edge of the wing and then polished.
 1 July 2024, 11:29
Zbynek Honzik
@ Michael - I use an electrical tape that I bought on e-bay. I got a reference for it on YouTube here: Youtube Video
It's High Temperature Resistant Kapton Tape. The packaging says it is "Advanced Polymer Tape" and is characterized as "Clean Removal". And the adhesive doesn't really stick to the resin.

Thanks Zbynek. I will try this. The Cello tape glue can be quite easily removed with IPA, but lazy as I am, I like the idea to omit that step.

So I moved forward a bit again and sanded and cleaned up the transition between the pylon and the engine.
 4 July 2024, 21:55
Zbynek Honzik
In between letting the putty cure in the transition between the pylon and the engine, I started speculating how to improve the cockpit window frame.
In the end, Authentic Airliner Decals were used. I really like the way the authentic metallic finish looks on the decal, plus they depict the rivets and the thin black line showing the insulation between the glass and the frame. I had to cut the decal because the dimensions are a little different on the model, but I really like it. So I ordered another set. The windshield is wider, so one set was not enough for me.
On the photo you can see where the original frame is sprayed with Alclad and where the decal is.

 4 September 2024, 20:18

A small step forward has been made. The window frames on the starboard side have been installed. Emergency exit also. The cleanliness of the window glazing, unfortunately, did not turn out the way I wanted due to my mistake. I have to learn to live with that. Hopefully it will be better on the port side of the fuselage...
 18 September 2024, 05:07

It's all a learning curve, as in all art forms ......it's the persute of perfection very rarely we achieve it.

Today I came across this: what a wonderful work 👍
Such glossy finishes (on cars or airliners) are not easy because it brings all little mishaps to the surface. But I like your careful work, and it is great that you go a step back and fix things even it is more work.

it looks really good, what is the issue about the windows? they look great in the pictures
 3 October 2024, 22:24
Spanjaard
maybe some tiny white spots? you can say it is result of condensation, I have seen that in quite a few real flights 😉
 3 October 2024, 22:27
Zbynek Honzik
Thanks for the kind and witty comment, Spanjaard.
The tiny white spots are bits of dust that got into the fuselage, although I tried not to let that happen.
The other problem is that melted paint from around the windows has soaked into the clearcoat when I dripped too much diluted varnish over the dent left by the masking tape. It created some weird maps...
But you're right, it could be some condensation, I've experienced it in real flight too. Thanks! 👍🙋🏼‍♂️

Vintas
Good job, and just a terrible airline
 19 October 2024, 14:45
Zbynek Honzik
Thanks Vintas for the comment!

It is a horrible airline today, you're right.
But this is a version from way back, from 2004, when they were subsidiary of Icelandiar Group. They started with two Boeing 373-500 on leased from Lufthansa. From my point of view it was a sympathetic activity at that time to make a low-cost carrier in the Czech Republic.
But it turned out very sadly...
And eventually they liquidated CSA, a more then 100-year-old airline, originally our national carrier.
 19 October 2024, 15:03
Vintas
Sorry about the CSA. It was one of the oldest operating airlines along with KLM and AEROFLOT. You are absolutely right. By the way, they also have the TRAVEL livery.

While decalling I found out by reference photos that I have a incorrect positioned VHF antenna on the bottom of the fuselage. I was misled by the side view in the kit instructions without checking it against the photos. How many times again! I move forward like a snail and then fail to check such a thing! 😱🫣
So I ripped it out, sealed the hole and now I have to clean it up and repaint it. The photo shows the incorrect location and the future correct one.
 25 October 2024, 18:56
Alec K
Ahh, I feel your pain! I was just using a jar of paint yesterday and thought: "Why the heck do I even HAVE this??" Turns out I bought it for a recent build and completely skipped applying it in one of the final steps! At least you caught it (and mine is the next level of "forget") 😄
 26 October 2024, 11:32
Zbynek Honzik
That's a funny story too, Alec! Yes, that's the next level of "forget"... And that's getting worse with age...
Well, I wonder where I'll end up... When I forget what aircraft I'm actually building?🤣🤣🤣
 26 October 2024, 18:06
Zbynek Honzik
Christmas holidays also brought me time for modelling. I started by repairing decals that I damaged by careless handling. And then I went on to apply other decals. In doing so, I encountered a number of inconsistencies that I had to address. In some places I compromised with the fidelity to the original, in others I had to make my own decals.

John, I agree with you, I also had to exhaust themselves when they were finally assembled. Alas, apparently, this is a feature of Takom to make specific prefabricated tracks, even on models of completely different scales

The tracks were too thick to work with around the end wheels in my opinion. They kept falling off because there wasn't enough surface contact to attach them strongly.

Please read before you judge! This build was done for my son and will be used as a toy! My son once saw a RC Voodoo Mustang and immediately fall in love with it. Keeping asking me to buy it for him, which makes no sense for a 5 year old boy, I decided to build one for him that looks close to the RC plane and not the real one. I chose the cheapest P-51 kit in 1/48 I could find and created this plane based on foto references. Some markings are painted, for some I used decals. Please keep that in mind before you judge ... any comment highly appreciated
