hi ,it's still in the mock up stage ..had to make a new frame from styrene .. 🙂

I'm impressed
7 February, 19:02
Mona
thank you I've been thinking about this one for a while ...so many truck videos lol 😉
7 February, 19:07
David Taylor
Scratch building I'm in.
7 February, 20:46
Mona
hi David , not sure some would consider this scratch building (more like crap building)..as I haven't made detailed drawings with foot notes and appropriate scale reduction calculations ...lol
7 February, 21:32
Tini Hendriks
What's it going to be, Mona?
8 February, 08:27
David Taylor
When I did my Saxon apc.I had to measure then multiply by2.18 to get the correct size. That measurement is etched in my brain..
8 February, 16:10
Mona
David ...a few years ago in Fine Scale Modeler ,there was a article with two scale charts .. which I saved and lives on the same peg as my evergreen styrene ..and last year sprue brothers enclosed a scale card with the orders ..
8 February, 21:04
Mona
HI , Tini ..its going to be a Kenworth 6X6 ..a field modified "farm truck" with high floatation tires , inspired by a u-tube video of " Charlie's un- finished farm truck" ....and also KrAZ 255b videos

Bozzer
You just know that I'm lurking around here, somewhere? 😉
13 February, 20:11
Mona
hi 😉 Bozzer I'm just having some fun
13 February, 21:16
David Taylor
Gear train looks good.
13 February, 21:58
Bozzer
Float tyres (tires) are available aftermarket. Personally, I like the look of them, on certain trucks. Just make sure that they fit your rims, because a lot of stuff is 1/24 and that definitely makes a difference! I think that Jamie, from Molenium (unsure of the spelling) sells both versions, and supporting rims? You did catch my eye with that camelback tandem though. I can only imagine where you got that from?
13 February, 22:29
Mona
@ David ..I tried to keep the pinion angles realistic although front drive shaft kinda long
regretting not doing u- joints before fixing in place ..something to work out
14 February, 01:27
Bozzer
Mona, H channel, cut, trimmed and shaped, with a pinned T joint middle. You're welcome 😉
14 February, 03:04
Mona
thank you 🙂 Bozzer ..advice very much appreciated 👍

Jonathon Herring
Dang (stronger language was the first to come out)! The force is strong with you! 🗡️seriously gotta keep an eye on you. Inspiring! Thanks Mona.
15 February, 12:53
Jonathon Herring
Try ST Supply for aftermarket too. Moluminum tends to not have things in stock. Paul @ ST constantly has a rotating supply as well as a diverse selection. Takes a minute for the stuff to show but, I'm New York and he's Canadian so, expected.🤷‍♂️
15 February, 12:58
Mona
Hi , Jonathon ...I generate a lot of EMF with my improbability field 😉
15 February, 16:19
Jonathon Herring
Got my towel handy and I finally know the answer. 41, no….43, no……spaghetti squash! 🤔 Might have to start over
15 February, 17:45
Mona
Jonathon never leave home ..without your towel 👍 😉
15 February, 20:53
Bozzer
And definitely don't leave home without your pants! It's fine until you run into a friendly German Shepherd. Then, all hell breaks lose!
Speaking on behalf of a "Friend"
15 February, 21:01
Mona
OH , Bozzer ... pants 😉 lol ..from a individual who has crawled thru the snow ..on her hands an knees ,wearing a mini skirt and over the knee boots ..(searching for my car keys) that's when running into a friendly person with a german shepherd ,could be not good, woof woof! ...
15 February, 22:43
Bozzer
Lmao! And that's the other reason why I love Scalemates! We can all be adults, and even kids, but the banter is strong, and definitely light-hearted and welcome, at times! It's not all plastic and politics. We just have a good time, with a few smiles thrown in, for good measure 😄
15 February, 23:19
Mona
Woof.....that's my other dog impression (well thats my story I'm sticking to it ,Lol ) 😉
16 February, 01:07
Jonathon Herring
That was dead on! Sounded just like my dog. Your impressions are spot on. Now……hold on! I have a dog?! 🤪
16 February, 12:45
Mona
Jonathon, I checked out the site for ST Supply (Paul's Truck parts) ..looking forward to placing a order. 😉
16 February, 15:32
Jonathon Herring
Totally understand. During the winter (slow time) my purchases are light but, the rest of the time, I order at least monthly. He has product that is hard to find and I believe he may even cast some stuff himself. I say this because things will come back up that aren't around before or elsewhere. I check on him weekly.
16 February, 15:48
Mona
I was hoping he had a few items, more of the tires I want ..but supply an demand .. i shall order what is possible an then check back ...no hurry
16 February, 19:46
Bozzer
Lol, Mona is becoming a truck junkie.
Seriously though, with the amount of amazing aftermarket parts, it's extremely hard to control your urges! If I can't find what I want, I try to print it myself. The problem is, I start to look for something, then see something else, buy that, then something else I see, before I know it, I've got a drawer full of stuff, and I still don't have what I needed in the first place?
Self confessed truck junkie, myself.
17 February, 09:18
Mona
I've enough kits (various) to build ..that I can't possibly finish really no reason to buy more but yup ...junkie and your right about them aftermarket detail items ... they do seem to be the difference to a nice build of a marginal older kit, that and a element of practice ..I haven't the desire to 3d print ..and if I did I would print dash air ducts ..for the 68 beetle in the garage
17 February, 16:08
Bozzer
Just wait until you see the CTM stuff! I gotta admit, I keep tissues handy, when I browse through their website! To catch all my drool! Some of those dashboards, look better than on the 1:1 version. PE isn't my strongest point, but I intend on treating myself to a PE bender, and getting my big boy pants on.
17 February, 21:29
Jonathon Herring
True to the CTM comment Bozzer. I have always been a PE fan, where applicable. Eduard likes to make grab handles that are 2 dimensional so I end up replacing those with brass or styrene. Their dash boards were fantastic but have been out shined by 3d decals. CTM has been bought for as many kits that I have and they make interior sets for. I tell ya, I could spend tons of money on just their PE. Like, exhaust clamps?! Really?! 🥹 thanks for the details but, am I gonna end up in the loony bin? (Say nothing😏 Just move along. Nothing to see here)
18 February, 16:30
Mona
well shine on you crazy diamond 🙂

I'm already tucked into my Carlsberg, but I have a nice single malt, just for a nightcap. Looks like Mona has got a party started.
21 February, 19:01
Mona
Wow ! 👍 that a great Idea ...its been a while since I've drank a beer or any alcohol , I'd have to go with a Labatt's .....but Mezcal (ice cold) would really be my choice
21 February, 19:43
Mona
oops, forgot to say Hi Martin 🙂

Oh, how I miss the hoppy, delightful complexity of brew. Had no choice but to give it up.😭 Dr's orders. I will live vicariously through all of you. Crack one for me.
21 February, 23:02
Bozzer
You got it Big J! Holy moly, we got us a designated driver for the Disco Bus!
All we need now is a chef for the BBQ?
21 February, 23:39
Mona
wishful thinking on my part too , been a while for me ..had a hard seltzer few years ago but ..younger days
22 February, 03:35
Jonathon Herring
Me?! Drive?! I can only drive the short bus to the psych ward 🤪. At lest that's what my dear departed wife use to say. And I could do it professionally. I quote " You are certifiable and will drive everyone crazy". That, and my Mom says I'm a keeper…Woo Hoo!🎉🧨🎆🎇
22 February, 11:58
Bozzer
Don't worry guys, you're in good company. Us British drink beer for breakfast, and our cousins over the water, love a good beer! After all that ale, we won't care who's driving, or where we're going? Won't be the first time, I've woke up in a strange place? It's finding my clothes after, where I always struggle 😉
22 February, 12:40
Ahmet Eren İspir
You scratch built most of them? That's impressive
26 February, 16:19
Mona
Hi 🙂 Ahmet .. thank you, yes I made the frame, transfer case & driveshaft and modified the front springs . I over did it on the front springs ..and the front driveline should be different, But overall its reasonable ..may not be "accurate" though
26 February, 18:24
Bozzer
Mona, any chance of some pictures of the motor/engine???
26 February, 19:46
Mona
Hi, Bozzer ...sure I will take a few ..one Detroit 8v72 coming up, if i did better planning I'd would have ordered a 12v ..or a big CAT engine ..maybe in another build
26 February, 21:15
Jonathon Herring
Mona: accuracy is in the eye of the……fooie, 👅 did ya have fun? That……… that's what matters. If anyone says anything, tell them that you have it from a PNWW (Professional Nitwit With a Wrench🤪) that trucks can be special ordered to the specifications of the buyer. You are the customer in this case. If you're gonna weather it, working trucks are "Consumer Adjusted" constantly. Hell, before we let them go (sold or dead) we have many "adjustments" on each and every one. We are hard on trucks.🤷‍♂️
26 February, 21:23
Mona
agreed Jonathon 👍
26 February, 23:29
Bozzer
Thanks Mona. I've gotta agree with Jonathon. Everything was/is ordered to customer spec. You can literally build your own truck! The dealer gave you options, and helped you get the truck you wanted, for your needs? Engine, transmission, axles, diff's, trim, sleeper, you name it? I've seen many a Mack, with a Cummins in it, and even a few Detroit's. Nothing is impossible, when it comes to haulin gass 😉
26 February, 23:44
Mona
I noticed that from the Kenworth site and the various "history of" videos on the u-tube .. so I figured I had room for creative liberty 🙂
27 February, 02:55
Jonathon Herring
Oh God! People agreeing with me is scary. Have I apologized yet? Remind me to🤪
27 February, 13:06
Bozzer
Credit where it's due mate.
And encouragement is always welcome here. Personally, I love some of the links that get shared, of wild and wonderful trucks and cars? Gets the old grey cells ticking, and before you know it, another build is underway!
27 February, 13:14
Bozzer
Excellent scratchbuilding, Mona!
I'm intrigued to see where this is going?

Mona's got my juices flowing too. I had a little tinker in the Mancave myself, yesterday.
11 March, 12:50
Jonathon Herring
Bozzer is at the Bench! Awesome! Been very busy myself. Not with my "Down and dirty" build but, felt the need to do a fast out of the box build and the March Madness Group Build is pushing me to accomplish something without getting bogged down by minutiae 🫨 Just need to feel an accomplished model under my belt 😏
11 March, 14:09
gorby
Excellent scratch-building!
11 March, 15:14
Martin Oostrom
Scratchbuilding a crane too? Sure, why not?
Awesome!
11 March, 19:58

thank you Bozzer, Jonathon, gorby and Martin been thinking about this for a while ..I managed to get the windshield and windows in without any fuss 👍 ....Bozzer it's time to to be buildin'
11 March, 20:44
Bozzer
Mona, I promise that I'll break out something special, just to christen the new cave! I'm just waiting for the flooring guy to get back in touch and I'm going "All In"

Some serious scratch building going on. I like.
25 March, 20:10
Bozzer
Ohhh, I'm gonna need a wetsuit!
This is beginning to feel like an epic construction, of plastaholicism!
25 March, 22:24
Mona
a bit more to fab ...much of which under the rotating platform a drive shaft from the hydraulic pump to the PTO and a reservoir tank. yes a epic build at the moment (lol) 🙂 I keep practicing maybe someday I shall build something worthy of entering in a local event ...I been thinking of joining the IMPS 👍 😉
25 March, 22:49
Jonathon Herring
Yes Sir! That is kick a$$ Mona. So inspiring. 👍
25 March, 23:20
Mona
thank you guys 🙂 ....can't believe I typed IMPS ..instead of IPMS, guess that's the long term effects of glue 😉

I'm curious to know if any more bits, "fell" onto this project?
30 September, 20:17
Mona
hi bozzer no it is parked safely in its box ..waiting its cue "in my cluttered work space" I was waiting for the release of the movie Furiousa to determine what to change or modify ..I shall get to it very soon. been working on the Lotus, Oh forgot to tell ya the RubberDuck has passed, another sad day
30 September, 23:05
Bozzer
Believe it or not, I watched that movie on the plane, to the states, recently. A bloody excellent film, that explains the story of her! She was a very pretty young woman, until she got angry with the world.
Sadly, I did hear about the Rubber Duck 🙁 That's another reason to get back into my cave. Time to start clearing up my unfinished projects, 10-4
1 October, 05:35
Mona
I am hoping to get Furiousa on dvd so I may see the rig over and over in a convenient format , my esprit kit is the ..unfinished project of projects 46yrs ..time to complete it.. a song and the stripes on the Freightliner motivated the most recent mojo ..catch ya on the flip side
1 October, 15:13
Bozzer
Did I show you my trailer?
1 October, 17:18
Mona
oh no ..no you didn't 😉 LoL ..no wait I did see a pic in one of you posts ..a translucent/clear one right ? the correct one from the movie
1 October, 19:53

It's gonna look a lot better, real soon 😉

No oils, no washes, no filters, no pigments (except in panzer II, I think) no aftermarkets, no PE.
Just a badger 200, and lots of humbrol enamel. That was it. Off course the end result shows all that. 🙂
24 July 2015, 01:23
Clifford Keesler
Great job.

You are welcome sir. If it doesn't have wings or rotor blades, I don't have a clue. I just sent all of my armour to Hunter Cummings.
24 July 2015, 01:33

HEHEHE I understand, mate.
For me is more, if it as wings it must be on ground with some vehicle around, LOL
is this a lyric??? (((😄)))
P.S. Lucky Hunter...

Neil Patrick
Love this. Reminds me that I:

1. Built these first in the 1970s (badly)
2. Tried correcting and superdetailing them in the 1980s (giving up after countless hours)
3. Bought more accurate, better detailed and much more complicated kits 1990- now (very few finished)

This reminds us that great results can be achieved with simple old kits. Just add skill. It what's in the modellers fingers and head is as much as what in the box that counts.

Brilliant work Rui!

Markus Yliaho
Well done! Nice Desert dio
26 December 2021, 12:40
Rui S
Thank you for your kind comments, mates. Sorry for the late reply.
In this case first I build the pz III, them the halftrack, them I think it was the pz II (built by my sun and painted by me), them I recover the jeep, built in another Century 😄 or vice versa, not sure 🤔 it was a dinamic evolutive Dio, mostly becouse I had the space to add more kits 😉

@Neil, I've to agree with you. Slowly I Will try my best with better and more e expensive kits that I've in my stash. Also looking forward to see what you Will do Next 😎

@Markus, I'm glad you like this enough to comment.

22 January 2022, 14:47
Neil Patrick
Also reminds me Rui just how inspiring those early Tamiya boxarts were. 50 years on and they are still amongst my favourites. I don't know who painted them but he had an amazing style combining pinpoint accuracy of vehicles and people with an almost abstract use of colour. Try discerning a 'correct' RAL colour from them...
22 January 2022, 16:14
C Jackson
Great job, fantastic looking dio
22 January 2022, 16:43

I put together a Pinterest board with my favourite Tamiya box art illustrations Rui, including some rareties. Whilst the recent ones are okay, none beat those 1970s ones in my view.

I fully agree with Neil and Rui about the Tamiya box art which really was trend setting. I have collected the box tops.
23 January 2022, 11:31

@Neil, Don't know why but the ones I like the most are the ones wth the subjects Over white
@Neuling, Over the years I've done that, as you know. And I've done a photoalbum:

I am choking on dust and sand just looking at this, beautiful and very authentic!
20 July 2022, 21:19
Rui S
Hi Mina, Thank you very much for stoping by on this one. It was my 2nd dio (I Think).

when I finished the Pz III, I miscalculated the size of the base and then I added the halftrack, then the Pz II (made with my son), but there was still a lot of space left so, I ended up recovering the jeep (made n years before) to add it.

I'm glad you found it whorthy of your kind words. Apreciatted
21 July 2022, 22:21

@ gvizbi, thank you for stopping by and comment this oldy. I Know you also like Afrika Korps and your excellent examplar model's. Maybe that's why you like this one 😄
@ Mr James thank you. I'm glad you like it. This is one Dio that was evolving for years. The big initial base always left room for another addition 😉
@ David, thx. You are too kind, mate.
23 May 2023, 21:14
Mina Ro
One piece of advice, your painting of figures is great but one small thing to make them pop would be to buy a sheet of archer eye ball decals, I use them a lot but youll need to use a hole punch to cut them out.
24 May 2023, 05:45
James C
Very cool 👍
24 May 2023, 17:06
Clifford Keesler
Very nice.
24 May 2023, 19:44
Rui S
@ Mina, thank you for your advice, noticed, but this guy's where painted a longe time ago. I think I've made some nice progress in figure painting since them, (I like to believe) but I and others always consider that in this scale and to look from 50cm or more, I don't need to give such emphasis to the eye balls, normally I use only a bit of darker color. I'm sure your suggestion will achieve better results than that white big staring toyish eyes that to often we can see in faces. Also I avoid spend money on aftermarket
@ James and Clifford, thx for your comment apreciated

Randy Kriegel
Very good diorama, vehicles and figures are well done to.
18 September, 22:34
Rui S
Thank you Randy for your nice comment on this oldie. I really enjoyed doing it, as I was adding models while I had space in the base that was intended just for the panzer III the figures and the halftrack. 😄

After a long time I got into modelling and so managed to move a number of things forward. Now I have to let the putty cure properly on the transition between the pylon and the engine. And then the careful sanding and cleaning and final painting of the pylon and engine will begin.

Great to see you back on this one, the livery looks v.cool indeed.

Łukasz, I've got 373-800/700 waiting for me from Zvezda. And I'm looking forward to it. However, given my snail's pace, I don't know when their turn will come... 🐌🫣

My both 800s are waiting as well 😄 Revell & Zvezda
Btw. How did you do such a nice pair of landing lights? I'm looking for ideas as decals are not available for all liners in 144th.
30 June, 21:11
Michael Kohl
I am impressed by how clean and evenly you cut out the windows. Which material did you use to cover the windows before pouring the resin. I use regular Cello tape but the resin dissolves the glue and this sticks to the windows.
30 June, 22:35
Zbynek Honzik
@Łukasz - I use either "little lenses" that I bought years ago at www.morellingtool.co.uk or nail glitter that I bought at a bead store.
I seal the headlight area first, then spray paint it matt black and glue the lights (glitter) in the appropriate places.
Then I sealed everything with transparent resin. After the resin hardened, I sanded everything to the shape of the leading edge of the wing and then polished.
1 July, 11:29
Zbynek Honzik
@ Michael - I use an electrical tape that I bought on e-bay. I got a reference for it on YouTube here: Youtube Video
It's High Temperature Resistant Kapton Tape. The packaging says it is "Advanced Polymer Tape" and is characterized as "Clean Removal". And the adhesive doesn't really stick to the resin.

1 July, 11:39
Łukasz Gliński
Velke diky Zbynku - I might use it on my next airliners 👍
1 July, 12:28

Thanks Zbynek. I will try this. The Cello tape glue can be quite easily removed with IPA, but lazy as I am, I like the idea to omit that step.

So I moved forward a bit again and sanded and cleaned up the transition between the pylon and the engine.
4 July, 21:55
Zbynek Honzik
In between letting the putty cure in the transition between the pylon and the engine, I started speculating how to improve the cockpit window frame.
In the end, Authentic Airliner Decals were used. I really like the way the authentic metallic finish looks on the decal, plus they depict the rivets and the thin black line showing the insulation between the glass and the frame. I had to cut the decal because the dimensions are a little different on the model, but I really like it. So I ordered another set. The windshield is wider, so one set was not enough for me.
On the photo you can see where the original frame is sprayed with Alclad and where the decal is.

I am also going to do a Tupolev, specially TU-134 Malév. That was the first airliner I flew in from Budapest to Prague.
4 September, 20:18
Zbynek Honzik
A small step forward has been made. The window frames on the starboard side have been installed. Emergency exit also. The cleanliness of the window glazing, unfortunately, did not turn out the way I wanted due to my mistake. I have to learn to live with that. Hopefully it will be better on the port side of the fuselage...
18 September, 05:07

It's all a learning curve, as in all art forms ......it's the persute of perfection very rarely we achieve it.
Looks great to me and I'm sure others think the same.
Your Tu-134 sound like great idea.

Today I came across this: what a wonderful work 👍
Such glossy finishes (on cars or airliners) are not easy because it brings all little mishaps to the surface. But I like your careful work, and it is great that you go a step back and fix things even it is more work.
18 September, 19:26
Zbynek Honzik
Thank you very much for your encouraging comment, bughunter!

3 October, 18:57

Thank you Kate and Mathias. That gras diorama piece was from dennisminiaturesdesign.de/shop/diorama/ a german producer of 3d printed figures and some other stuff. I´ve bought it from Modellbau König in Germany. I am not sure if they still carry it. I was not overly impressed as I had to cut quite substantial parts of the corners because the grass was applied irregularly there and looked ugly. I got a discount for that by the dealer and kept it for a while didn´t knew what to do with it until I decided for this diorama.. For this small scenario it did fit perfectly 😊

So I just finished this little Italian job. The decals came out with a lot of the edges showing, which then got a lot worse when I added some washes. I used Microset on the decals, and then sealed them with Tamiya semi-gloss before the washes, but it actually looks like the washes got under the decals. Any thoughts?
29 August, 18:04
Bogicevic Vladimir
It looks like you haven't spray gloss coat before you applied decals. Or decals didn't set well. There are two solutions. One is lacquer thinner. Put the thinner with fine brush in dots over the place where you have silvering. Thinner should destroy the film. If it raises paint under, just leave it, it will settle back. Important thing here is that, once you applied thinner, you shouldn't touch decal for something like 20 minutes, at least. Second way is mix of sugar and water, half - half. You make a hole with a needle on the decal, than you put mix on the top. It should enter in the space between decal and paint and, when drayed, make a gloss film in between them which will act as a gloss under the decal. Wipe excess mix with wet cloath and you are done.
29 August, 18:28
Mr James
How annoying. I've never heard of the sugar water trick from Bogicevic. I'll be interested if this works. If the thinner, sugar trick fails, what else can you do but use a scalpel to cut around them, since you've sealed it,
29 August, 19:05
Mr James
Oh, nice paintjob by the way
29 August, 19:05
Doubtingmango
Thanks mates! I believe Bogicevic is right. I think I did fail to gloss coat before the decals. I think I'll try the sugar water first
30 August, 10:42
Bogicevic Vladimir
Ok. There are few small tings I should add then. Heat the water first, when hot it will disolve sugar beter and apply it while it's still warm, it will have more viscosity. Make small hole or slice with modeling knife, put few drops of mix on the top and let it dry. You will see emidiatly if it's penatrating. When dry, wipe carefully excess mix with moist cloth. Repeat where neaded. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it worked for me many times.
30 August, 11:11
Doubtingmango
Thanks Bogicevic! I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work I'll try the lacquer thinner technique. I love this site!
30 August, 11:26

Where the *uck's this been hiding. Very nice build Mr Mango and I hope the decal solution from Bogicevic work's out🤞
31 August, 21:31
Doubtingmango
Thanks Mark! So I punched some holes in the decals and applied the warm sugar water, but unfortunately it did not seem to make a noticeable difference. I decided my best shot was to just grab the scalpel and remove the decals, which was very easy. Bogicevic said the solution would get under the decals! I have successfully applied new decals, and my little Italian job is now base-worthy. New pics to come.
31 August, 23:14
Bogicevic Vladimir
Well, you find a solution, which is the most important thing. I can not know why something that worked for me many times does not work for you in this case. Maybe that what I think is silvering is residual glue from decal paper. Who knows... Anyway, good luck with your project.
31 August, 23:56
Doubtingmango
Thanks Bogicevic! You were definitely part of the solution
