Nice collection of WTF box arts 🙂. To be fair, majority of them are from the ancient era (60's/70's/80's) of modelling, nobody focused that much on what's on the box back then (but there were also really nice looking artistic pieces from those times that I remember). I'll try to find some newer (90's and onward) box arts that I consider a "failed mission in marketing" - this one is a nice example from 2021 --> Saab TF-35 Draken (Skale Wings SS-72001, 1:72), and this one a bit older (2003), but also has a high WTF factor --> Messerschmitt Bf-109E 3/4 "H..tenkrad (Academy 2214, 1:72).

I built that thunderceptor (photo 32) when I was a kid. I got it at a 5 and dime store. I recall I painted it testors metallic gloss red.

Aaaaaand my favourite:
PZL P-23 a Karas (RUCH MK006, 1:72)
PZL P-23a (Coopexim , 1:72)
PZL-23A Karaś (RUCH , 1:72)
PZL P.23A Karaś (PZW , 1:72)
which one do you like most? 😄
Don't you dare look at the contents - what's most unbelievable: the same moulds are used now to produce "new" kits:

Yes it bugs me when classic box-art is altered to remove any sign of unpleasantness. This is an ideal example.
Superfortress (Airfix 07001-4, 1:72)
Boeing B-29 Superfortress (Airfix A07001, 1:72)
One is full of action and the other is dull.

Still, I love the Lindberg's rendering of MiG-19... and Soviet "Warhawk" - quite inspiring, isn't it 😉

The Warhawk is unbelievable! It looks nothing like the real aircraft. I'd love to see the model.

I've just Googled it Ben and it doesn't great, but not as bad as I thought it would. I think I'll save my 15 euro. 😉
I agree Mark (incidentally, the predictive text has change Roy to Royal).
I didn't notice that Martin. 😄

Hi Kesa,
a Leo 1 at the Berlin Wall is a nice idea and I am curious about the connection your family has to this idea.
I don't wanna spoil the project and I may stand corrected, but to the best if my knowledge there were never any German tanks in Berlin between the end of the second world war and the german reunification. The tanks were American, russian, british and french.

The project and my family are completely unconnected just wanted to mention it.
I am aware that there werent any german tanks in berlin but i just found this leo for a cheap price and decided why not, i also dont think there were JGSDF iraq assistance teams in berlin at the time but the fun thing about this hobby is that i can do whatever i want so again decided it would add a nice touch to the dio

Nice work Kesa, it is your best so far. The tools on the tank are particularly well painted.

"Master" me? There are many, many more on here with infinitely more skill.
If you stick with modelling Kesa you'll surpass me in a couple of years easily judging by your recent progress.
Well done on your diorama, it looks good. 👍

Well you are like a master in my eyes, just look at your builds. Your entire wall is a minefield of 10/10 builds man. Sure with everything theres someone better but i feel like with this hobby you are either better at painting (aka weathering, painting, paint detail) or glueing (how clean the build looks before painting, how strong the build is) , for example mr.james is better at painting than you and Steven van dyck is better at glueing than you but to this day i havent seen anyone do both better than you.
And thanks, i have been getting better at this, if my 6 year old self could see what ive made now hed probably be very mildly impressed

Nice of you to say Kesa, but when I look on Scalemates I'm constantly astounded by models I could hope to equal.

I think most modellers see someone that's better in their own eyes.
Be inspired by a better builder, and when you are just as good, be inspired by the next better builder.

Following. Still struggling with my Revell/Modeltrans/OKB Grigorov Merk. Also bought the EMP3D ball and chain armour but see that you used the balls only. Anxious to hear why. Where did you find the super fine chain? I didn't.

I had also thought about replicating the chainball armor with chains for my two Merkavas and tried but failed because the chains I found all seemed too big.

I was elated when EMP3D released the ball and chain armour and I ordered it and it looks very good. So I am anxious to know why Pryzemyslav discarded it.

Thx mates.
When i've bought EMP3D i was very happy, because there are no in the trumpeter set.
But after installation it occured they hang to low and just break with little turret movement
After few trials to fix them, ideas to rebuild the turewt, i've decided to replace them
Found small chains (even smaller that i've used) on mojehobby.pl

Thanks.
I used the ChainBallArmor from Modell Trans Modellbau on my two Merkavas. They look appropriate - but still no comparison to a real chain - and don't touch the tank structure: Dio: Two Merkava Mk.IIID (LIC) on a desert road | Album by Shar (1:72)
Chain ball armor by Modell Trans Modelbau: Merkava III D - ugrade set (..ans Modellbau MT72237, 1:72)
Thanks.

Thanx for the info and the links. Much appreciated. I will take care to avoid your issue with my Revell Merk - now that I know. Anxious about your further progress.
PS: I was very disappointed by my Modeltrans Merkava IIID upgrade set and even more so by the top armour for the Revell kit.
