Sounds like a nightmare from start to finish. I'll bet you're glad it's done. Congrats!

Yes indeed, it was a nightmare. I'm quite happy with how it came out, despite all the dramas. It almost ended up in the trash a few times, especially when the weathering wash wouldn't come off. I had to use isopropyl to remove what I could, and that made the clear coat go hazy, but that came right with a light rub with Tamiya lacquer thinner.

Album info

Another 50 year old kit from my father's stash. This kit was a nightmare from start to finish. The plastic was extremely brittle. The small parts broke at the slightest provocation, as did almost all of the attachment points for the ailerons and rudder. Paint was actively repelled from the wings and caused the plastic to go rough. The fuselage was not as bad. The joins between the wings and fuselage were up to 5mm wide and needed extra styrene glued to the wings to give the putty something to hold onto. The wheel struts are supposed to move, but had to be glued in place. Decals were fragile and very hard to stick down, especially the small warnings. As the gloss clear coat would not go glossy at all, the decals are very silvery. The black weathering wash stuck to the paint like glue and it was difficult to remove the excess.
