here you can see the first pictures of my new Bf-109 project. Revells boxing comprises the venerable ICM forms, that means, looking on the bright side, sharp edged wing trailing edges, an engine that may be displayed and nicely detailed parts in general. Decals are provided for Marseilles famous mount- not very inspiring.
So I took to a Bf 109 F from Kageros "Messerschmitts in North Africa": The pilot was Franz Schneider who had flown this Matuba based F-4 from 6./ JG 3 in the spring of 1942.
The pictures show how exaggerated the structures of the rudder have been molded; corregtion was easily done with some sand paper.

Greco OteroSeems to me that the rudder was made to be covered with something (tissue paper)? to replicate a fabric covered surface. correct me if I am wrong as I am not an expert on Me 109's or any other aircraft. but a lots of metal covered aircrafts from WWII had fabric covered ruders and elevators. just an idea that came to me when I saw it

Greco, as you have said: the Bf-109s rudders have been fabric covered, but I think it is a little bit strange to simulate this circumstance that excessive way!
Aghis, you had the pleasure of making Giselas acquaintance allready? 🙂
The cockpit is mainly the achievement of Eduard and a some use of pastels...

Roland SachsenhoferThe ongoing build reveals to me the (over-)complicated nature of the ICM kit.
A lot of fiddling is necessary and the parts fit is generally speaking not good... Because of the necessary excessive sanding and filling some of the sharp edges and nicely done details are in danger.
The pictures show you the model in the middle of sanding; it seems there will be a long way to go! 🙂

Bill GilmanYikes! The wing root fitting looked very bad, but you conquered it! I started the ICM 1:72 MiG-25 some time ago, but encountered many fit problems. It is now on my shelf of doom. Is this typical of ICM kits?

Bill, I can´t say that, it is my first ICM experience. What I have heard about ICM kits makes me wonder how bad the fit is.
But for sure Revells decals are worth finding a built where to use them 🙂

Because it's an ex-Revell mold does that mean that it has the same fit issues? The P-51 from ICM is from Tamiya if I remember correctly. I used to had that one in my stash. The Original ICM kits have some issues considering the Mig-3 which has some wing fuselage problems. I'm not sure about newer models from Alanger (ex-ICM).

Roland SachsenhoferHello, same notice as with the big brother build: I am late in saying thank you to your kind remarks! Michel, in my opinion these forms do not look like those I am used to find in kits with Revell origin- but maybe I my wrong with that. All of that I have heared about ICM kits fits very well to my experiences here...
Here are some pictures of the actual building process. I added preshading and -lighting with gloss black, yellow and white. Looks a little bit like a segmented bee... 🙂

Keith GervasiGreat job!! I wonder what happened to those wing roots. A friend built the ICM 109F-4/B and had no problems. His problem was the cowling panels did not line up.

Keith, the whole fuselage from the last canopy section forward is very fragile, attaching the DB with the not-to-be-glued exhausts does not help in this matter. I can imaging there are a lot of options for misfittings depending where you have started glueing the parts.

Holger KranichI had the same problem with mine. The enginesection is very fragile to work with.
Roland, do you plan to smooth the whole surface? I think it very rough like many ICM kits.

Roland SachsenhoferOh yes, rough it is indeed! I have polished the surfaces up to 2000er paper allready- in my opinion there is no way to avoid that because you have to sand on so many places.

Roland SachsenhoferSome improvements and addition had to be made on this ICM kit. I felt not sure about the form of the kits propeller blades. Particularly the tops seemed heavily wrong to me. So I decided to change them against those of an old Hasegawa kit I am cannibalizing for this odd kit. I had to saw of the ICM props before glueing the Hasegawa ones.
Second point is a completely missing antenna mount on the tailplane... I fabricated one from a fitting etched part- luckily it even has a needle eye! 🙂

Roland SachsenhoferThe kit has surely it´s assets. Beside that in my opinion it is okay if a kit is a little bit tricky to build, but it´s not funny finding essential parts being done wrong or found missing.

Roland SachsenhoferThe paint is on the surfaces as is a first layer of Gunze clear gloss. Now to the decals and some decent weathering!

Roland SachsenhoferA small update: decals are applied, a second layer of Gunzes "gloss clear" should have sealed colours as decals....
Next I am trying to do a lively-dull finish.

Dictum: a modeller with your fabolous skills has no problems however with building aircraft. After looking at your projects it´s quite for sure it would be a inspiring pleasure to watch an aircraft developing on your workbench...

Exhaust stains have been applied and the Bf 109 stands on her own legs. Prop and tailwheel just clipped on and unfinished- as are a lot of minor parts...

Roland SachsenhoferHello Albi, did you make use of it yet? Will bring extraordinary athmosphere to a model for sure... For this "Friedrich" I wan´t go after it, by the way: ICMs variations doesn´t show the clamps attached to most tropicalised versions.
The building process has come to an end; I show you some pictures of the finished Bf109 F. I had to be quite ambitious to get to a reasonable result...

Roland SachsenhoferThank you for the comments! You can hardly do this kit without a decent amount of work and some improvisation, but, after all, I would say it´s worth the extra effort.
Jo hö Holga, hob gar net gwusst, dass Ihr da om oan da nordsee a "Des is a Schmankerl" sogts wia wia! "Almdudler" ist bei Euch wohl so selten wie... ich sag einmal "Eiergrog" bei uns 🙂
