very nice one. how did you obtain the pale colors for the wood? When I try this with oil-paints it comes out too dark, even with an underlayer off buff as a start...

Hi Bart:
I used Buff as a base colour and stippled diluted burnt umber over it. After a few minutes, using and old scuffed brush (with very little white spirit), dragged over the surface to reproduce the wood grain. If you start with a thin layer of oil colour, you'll get a subtle effect. I hope it helps!
Cheers

I tried the same with mine, but it came out too dark in my opinion, hence the question, will need to continue practicing. Thx for the answer...

Looking great and the Vallejo bottle looks a bit big beside the kit. But the wingspan is only 99mm and some day I'm gonna build mine as well. I hope that mine will turn out as good as yours and Mike Grant's in the end. Your builds is a great inspiration for me!

I'd love to try this one but I'm not sure I have the skills yet. Do you have any photos of the build in progress?

There's some good build photos in Mike Grant's build article in Airfix Modelling World. I'm not sure as I don't have the magazine here beside me at the moment but I think it was the July edition from last year. Try to get that one, it's worth the cost for the magazine for just that article and then you get some other nice articles as well as it's a good and well balanced magazine.

Thank you, you're all to kind. This is an old build, completed some 10 years ago. I have Eduard's new Dr.I stipdown, which IMHO is much better then the old kit. I hope to work on it soon and when I do, I'll share it in Scalemates for sure!
Cheers

Thank you Ethan! Eduard has a newer improved version of it (it's on my to build pile). If my memory serves me well, it was released some 10 years ago (at the same time they released their brilliant 1:48 DH-2).
