Hey there, I need airbrush help! What's wrong with the lines on my Tornado? All those stray dots and speckles...
Is it the paint? I tried to play with pressure and amount of colour... to no avail.

Btw, the aeroplane is in 1:72 and I think my airgun has a 0,4mm tip.
I just want to achieve some fine and smooth lines.

Mine does that sometimes, it is usually because my paint is to thick.

Hey guys, thanks a lot. So it's all down to the right mixture I guess. I tried thinning the paint but then the paint just splatters and drops on the plane and runs away. So I blamed the airgun...

airbrush can make also a big difference. i recently changed my old cheap airbrush (Taiwan made copy of an Iwata) for a new one (good german quality) and i can see a big improvement. also i changed from 0.4 to 0.2mm.
In any case, paint/solvent ratio can make a huge difference as other said already.

Check your air pressure, with acrylics you should work as low as 10psi... and of course the consistent og the paint( should flow as milk)

Try changing the paint brand. I have the same problems doing preshading with Vallejo Air Colors but no problems with Mr. Color

Alright, I tried Tamiya acrylic colours 60/40 (colour/thinner) and actually increased air pressure to 20psi/ 1.5bar and it works a lot better now. It I go any lower with the pressure I just get drops 'n blobs. But maybe the gauge of my compressor is just wrong. 😉
Thanks for the input everbody! It helped a lot! 👍

Hey there, just bought and tried a 0.2mm needle. Just fantastic and lot of fun to work with. But with 0.2mm I definetly have to go with 10psi or less, like Christian said. 👍
