Wip Desert Storm Jaguar GR1A

Album image #1
This is the idea of what I want to represent.

Album image #2
original cockpit assembly...no, thanks!!!

Album image #3
some plasticard can do the job!

Album image #4
...home made location pins for the cockpit

Album image #5
...let's try it...clack!!!

Album image #6
the pit fits well to the fuselage halves.let's check the instuments panel.

Album image #7
The PP.E. panel is far too flat.It doesn't fit to the kit's one.Better cut it and re-position the single parts on a new , scratch built plasticard support!

Album image #8
Better now!

Album image #9
Let's try how it fits to the pit...

Album image #10
...and to the fuselage halves, where the cockpit P.E. side walls have been fitted. A bit flat, but the closed canopy will help with that!

Album image #11
I used the part previously cut from the kit and some additional detail from plasticard and various rods, to re-build the cockpit front section.

Album image #12
Another view of the instument panel

Album image #13
Test to see how things fit together.Added the backplate from a Neomega cockpit being used on another project, as the first attempt to add detail n this area ended up not really as I wanted it.

Album image #14
Dry fit to check if everything fits.

Album image #15
This guy needs some arm repositioning to fit and to be a little realistic.

Album image #16
While checking the cockpit area, I realized the windshield didn't pair the fuselage shape, thus St.Plasticard came to help!!! Iadded two bits at the sides.

Album image #17
two strips of plasticard were added and filed down to give the wind screen's the correct shape to match the fuselage.

Album image #18
Album image #19
Let's see how things look under the closed canopy!

Album image #20
Let's have a look at the landing gears bays now...ok, understood!

Album image #21
Let's start with the frame, for now, I'll think about the detail later!

Album image #22
From inside it looks like this.

Album image #23
With a little piping, it looks more accurate!

Album image #24
Now it's time to deal with the main gear, rather basic.

Album image #25
Here is my belobved Stuff, some assorted flat plastic rods, ideal for detailing.

Album image #26
Here it is in place (just dry fitting , of course!!!

Album image #27
added some detail and a locating pin which will allow to rotatethe leg and find the right angle.

Album image #28
Tamiya "green cap" is what we need to add detail to the landing pit doors!

Album image #29
...and this is the final result, after thinning and detailing.

Album image #30
All doors are done and readyto be painted,!!!

Album image #31
And here a view of the main gear bay assembly

Album image #32
another view. At the moment this is the only side done.Once seen the result, I lost interest and I concentrated n something else.

Album image #33
Having to represent the aircraft while taking off, the intakes will be open(no FOD covers!) thus I made recreated the intake ducts with plasticard.

Album image #34
This is the my view of the engines front , to be painted black , dry-brushed and glued at the end of the ducts...nothing will be seen at the end!!!

Album image #35
rhis is what they look like now.

Album image #36
From the pictures I've seen, the deep section of the intakes ducts are fiberglass and to represent this colour I painted the them black , oversprayed with zink chromate yellow.I'm sure nobody will see a thing, at the end!!!

Album image #37
It was now time for the intakes to be glued to the fuselage halves, not before having painted the inside Desert Pink.I've used Xtracrilic smoothered with the dedicated thinner. It was the first time I used this thinner and was very happy with it.

Album image #38
The intakes ' fit is a bit...approximate, so I used some cianoacrylate glue as a filler. I also glued the cannons' section and ...some more cianoacrylate was needed!!!

Thank you guys! The last ones of the cockpit painted aren't so good, but the flash didnt help! Soon I'll post some more pictures of the landing gears pit.

I did the same kit not too long ago. But I did NOT do the detailing you have! Great job! Which nose art are you going to do?

Thanks. My decals sheet offers the possibility to represent "Sad man" or "Pink Spitfire".I'll probably choose "Sad man".

Yes, the intakes are awful on this kit. It took me a lot of sanding and filling to get them OK. Also, LifeColor makes the desert pink color so you don't have to try mixing your own.

thank you all for the comments!
I'm using Xtracrilix Desert Pink , by Hannants. They have a full range of colors for british aircraft and I find them very accurate. Thanks for the suggestion anyway!

Geoff, its not a great kit. I did this one as well. Just be prepared for some ill fitting parts. And 100% get the Masters nose pitot. The kit one is grossly out of scale.

And yes, I am curious also as to how this came out!

Thanks Donald - between the Airfix/Heller/Revell kit and the KittyHawk... which is the lesser of the two evils?

Geoff, I havent done the KH, but Id say that one. The KH kits I have done are NOT as horrid as people say they are. IF you can find one for a reasonable price.

I built the KH Jag, and it went together well and turned out really nice. I also built the Heller one, and have the old ESCI kit. It has raised panel lines so I will have to re-scribe it.

Album info

This Jaguar will be positioned on a stand ,in a simulation of takeoff, with the landing gears partially retracted.I like to represent my models in a dynamic scenario.
It'll will be painted desert pink as I intend to represent it in a fully armed configuration and to give it a light finish, which will highlight the landing gear's bays and detail.
...fingers crossed!!!
