Shiny Bird Progress
Not alot of detail for the cockpit in this kit. The Eduard kit added some detail but not alot.
Instead of using the eduard instrument panel (unpainted), I opted to paint the kit instrument panel.
The plane came together quite nicely. Not alot of putty or sanding needed. The real let down of the kit are the clear parts, especially the front part of the canopy that has alot of artifats that make it hard to see through.
The Mr.Color SM08 Plate Silver Next went on really well and I was very happy with the shinyness and reflectivity of it.
Masking the rudder for painting.
The paint underneath is so smooth that the white paint has a hard time sticking to it when unmasking.
Also when removing the masking tape, the metal color comes off... Not what I had expected from this paint.
After each consecutive unmasking, more metal paint comes off... 🙁
Masking the insignia on the wing.
Also here it is clear that the metal paint doesn't like masking tape..
More Masking.
As you can see the metal paint is really coming off. At this point I have decided to mask over the insignia and re-spray the metal paint.
The metal paint has been re-sprayed and coated with Alclad II Clear Cote. This has dulled down the shine and reflectivity of the metal paint, but it is necessary as the paint would come off otherwise while handling it.
It is finished!

Cockpit is finished and the plane has been assembled and prepared for the paint. I hope I have done enough sanding and polishing to prepare for the NMF... I'm testing Mr.Color's super metallic SM08 for this plane, let's see how it goes😉.

Thanks mates! 🙂
It's been a while since the last update, so here are a few pictures of what has happened since then.

Thanks James! 🙂
I used Mr.Color SM08 Plate Silver Next, as I've used the SM01 several times earlier and been very happy with the result. Unfortunately it seems that SM08 is another formula and needs a clear cote to protect it, which dulls down the metal shine. I'm still happy with the final result, but unfortunately it isn't the holy grail I was hoping for😉.

Thanks Mates! 🙂
@James, yes I also struggle with NMF. Probably because I try to reach a higher standard with them than I do with other finishes..

Thank you Sören! 🙂
It is finished. I chose not to do any weathering on the plane as the inspiration for it was a plane I saw at an airshow last summer.
