CASA C 2.111 SAR - Viva Espana

Album image #1
The ICM fuselage is a "click-fit". So easy - so accurate!

Album image #2
The interior color (Vallejo RLM02) is too dark, but I hope in the end, we'll see not much of it 🙂

Album image #3
Fuselage halfes glued together. The kit is very good engineered!

Album image #4
First rough adjustment in the Cockpit. As I saw later on reference pictures, the inside color here was not RLM02 🙁

Album image #5
As CASA got the Merlins with the nacelles, the Belcher Bits engines are ok for me.

Album image #6
Dual controls

Album image #7
The Spaniards didn't had a use of the windows in the ventral position, so I closed them.

Album image #8
As the built goes on, I found more and more differencies between the German He 111 and the CASA C2111.

Album image #9
Added the small window in the front cowling.

Album image #10
The troubles started, when installing the wings. Lot of trimming and bending!! Not the same fit-quality as the fuselage 🙁

Album image #11
Merlins in place. After a long adjustment time, the position is ok for me.

Album image #12
After positioning, I'll start to install a proper fixture for the engines. Then a lot of sanding and filling.

Album image #13
So I got the ending of the engine to the gear well right. Grinding, sanding and filling of the engine connection can start now.

Album image #14
Added a small detail on the tail. Seems the "Pedro" was able to tow a glider (would be interesting which one? Any pictures known??).

Album image #15
I removed the profile of the tire by knife to got an used look. The Spaniards used tires of their own manufactures with a different profile but I was unable to find such a wheel in the aftermarket.

Album image #16
I changed the cockpit interior color to antrazite-grey, as a lot of pictures show the cockpit quite dark.

Album image #17
For the first time, I tried to work with small magnets to hold the propeller.

Album image #18
The result is funny! You can spin the propeller by blowing air to it, the propeller has no inbalance!

Album image #19
Happy with that! The blades still need to be adjusted. It also needs a bigger spinner.

Album image #20
Because I had too much time, I made a transport box for the CASA.

Album image #21
The prop-story ends here. Thanks to spare propellers from the Tamiya Mosquito kit and spinners from 109-kits, the propeller has its (near) final look.

Album image #22
The 109-spinners fit nice to the engine nacelles. So focus goes back to them.

Album image #23
Seats are done (RH kit part, LH scratch - 2x eduard seat belts), dual controls (scratch) installed.

Album image #24
Ventral clear parts in position

Album image #25
Side rudder try fit

Album image #26
Plotter-test for airbrush masks

Album image #27
Roundel-dummy in place. The wing tips will be yellow with a black stripe on the inner end

Album image #28
Landing gear modification. The C2.111 had no dust protectors for the damper pistons.

Album image #29
The instrument panel is self-made of cutted eduards photo etched colored parts.

Album image #30
Exhausts cutted and in place (I used Airacobra-Fishtail exhausts). I also added the screen in front of the air scoop

Album image #31
The silver coating is nearly done. All the clear front parts used my nerves very much but since i cutted away the bomb aimers floor, I had no fuselage parts to guide the clear parts.

Album image #32
Roundel masks for wings and fuselage

Album image #33
Painting process: Primed, yellow sprayed (5 layers), inner roundel mask placed, primed, red sprayed (4 layers), tape removed

Album image #34
A japanese one?

Album image #35
Happy with that 🙂

Album image #36
Some minor corrections will follow

Album image #37
The windows of the CASA were different to the He-111, but to change the panels to windows was too much for me so I left them in Heinkel-mode.

Album image #38
Selfmade masks for the fuselage applied

Album image #39
... and after airbrushing. However, it was then I saw that the roundel is placed too high on the fuselage side.

Album image #40
Meanwhile, bad news of the landing gear: The modified kit parts collapsed during a dry-fit on the CASA. So I got a SAC-Replacement set, which I also had to modify... (SAC delivered two LH landing gear sets, but this is just a detail now)

Album image #41
Found the limitations of my plotter (and myself) when applying the writing on the vertical stabilizer.

Album image #42
Don't know the reason for these tubes on the lower wing side, but as they are on all CASA-Pictures, I added some cutted syringe needles

Album image #43
Album image #44
Hope this helps 🙂

Album image #45
And finished. Just a great reference book!

Album image #46
Some finish-pictures will follow...

Album image #47
... and now, the finish-pictures 🙂

I just found your Merlin set consists of 4 engines. Can we expect you building a second C2111? 😄

I think the putty-manufacturers would be happy if I do so... but no, one is enough😉

Hello Melchior, nice to see how it goes on, the ICM 111 has already strange "interpretations" of the quality: D, but in the end, you are happy if it is done 🙂, for the small hull windows a little late, but that could If you glue them together, they fit almost exactly into the frame

Looks pretty good! Could it be, the propeller blades need a little adjustment in shape?

Hello Melchior, what an orgy 👍 after my He 111 H6 is already the H20 on hold, the colleague has given me time until August, the exhibition in Lützen, in early August, he wants to see her 😄 😄 😄 , think that is next to the Bf 110 G4 by Eduard and the Ju 88 C6 / N by ICM probably still to create 😄

Yes, I'll adjust the prop-blades as soon the cabin glazing is on. @Jens: Chappeau if you do a second ICM-111!

Umpf. That reminds me that I have a HE-111H-20 on stash. So many kits and so little time 🙁

Richmond
Very nice work

What is the make and model of the plotter?
25 October 2019, 12:14
Melgg Lütschg
Thank you all, really motivates me 🙂 @Richmond: I used a Silhouette Portrait 2 Plotter. For a beginner like me, it's enough (easy installation, easy to operate).

Those pipes underneath the wing are fuel dumps. Found on later models of the he-111. Nice to see a NMF heinkel!

Any tips for working with syringe tips? Do they come in different sizes?
10 August 2021, 13:58
Melgg Lütschg
Treehugger: Yes, they have different sizes. I used superglue to attach them. Some modelers even use them for pitot tubes, as a smaller size fits into a bigger size.

Bel exemple du SAR. Excellent travail et magnifiquement expliqué. Merci beaucoup.

Stunning build and great topic. Thanks for your photo descriptions. I am doing a Hispano Buchon and would be interest to know what colours/brand of red and yello you used for the roundels please.
23 January 2022, 20:04
Melgg Lütschg
Thank you Oscar, Rui and Gary 🙂
Gary: For the roundels, I used Vallejo Air 71.002 Medium Yellow and 71.269 Red (also listed as RAL3000).

That's really nice Melgg. Top job Sir.

Album info

Stopped all other Projects for this one. Inspired by an IPMS idea. The spanish manufacturer CASA built this CASA C2111 as a T.8B Trainer with dual controls and all (?) specific bomber items removed. It was used for SAR in the sixties (with number 2540 painted), but only 2 Pictures of it are known. Let the fun begin!
