Beriev Be-4 (KoR-2) Sea Sick Sig
First internal details added. More to come
also on the other side
first test fit - looking really good
even the joint - fuselage-wing is looking perfect
More details...
additional interior details, which will be painted separately
front bottom section with ribs and seat structure
and another test fit. Everything is matching perfectly.
rear section getting some attention
test fit of front cover piece (two version of the cover in the kit - depending on the version early/late)
nasty big crack on one of the upper halves of the wing - glued together without any problem.
some parts are already marked red with correct part number.
some discrepencies are still present - here lower part is 101 and not 109
part 109 is already glued on the right halve of the fuselage
small bits and bobs
rear gun holder glued together and ready for paint
tail planes (horizontal and vertical) ready for final assembly
floaters glued together
Wing assembly is confusing at first glance, but after few minutes playing with all parts - it make sense.
BUT!
BUT!
next step - adding parts 124 (4 small parts - basically bomb rack /holders). If your version is with them, they should be added next. Problem is, they were designed to go from the inside. I have figured this half way gluing the wing together so I managed to glue in two outer ones from inside, the inner two needed to be slightly sanded down and then they fit in place. Highly reccommend to anyone, who will be building this kit to glue them in first, before the main wing assembly.
and the wing is glued together
But they look good anyway.
The only small gap I had from the wing assembly is on one side, where I glued small strip of styrene and sanded it down to close the gap as much as I could. Fortunately, the filling will be minimal.
First parts of the engine
not sure if the part on the right is supposed to be glued in. Will have to contact the manufacturer. Photos of the test build are not showing that part used.
Edit: Ok. So I got response from MARS Models regarding the inner part 29). It is supposed to be airflow deflector (stamped sheetmetal part IRL). And, I will quote, "you can not use this part if you do not plan to open the engine compartment". Since I'm having the engine cowling closed, I do not need to use the part.
Also I would like to thank to MARS Models for the help and clarification. So if anybody from MARS Models is reading this - big thank you.

not sure if this is how it should look like
or this
Cockpit painted, slightly weathered (not much will be visible from the outside anyway)
Now the, so far biggest issue of this kit (at least for me). Film for instrument panel.
I think there was some scaling issue... 😄
I think there was some scaling issue... 😄
Nothing that can be fixed. traced the pe part on thin plastic sheet, cut out the holes and the perimeter, cleaned a bit
painted, glued on the main instrument piece
and slowly started to cut all instruments from the film sheet and glue them to the correct place
I think it will be all right.
and the final result.
lower front section with seats in place
instrument panel glued on one of the fuselage halve
added harness for pilot seat
and front lower section glued to the right halve of the fuselage
few hours later, fuselage is glued together. Fit was again, perfect.
had to try and test fit the canopy piec on the front and end...
and again, perfect fit.
starting on the engine
front parts ready for paint
painted, added wiring (thin lead wire) and glued front parts
small test fit with the engine cowling
primer coat at least
a little bit of pre-shading
MRP-239 Blue [FS35190] for the underside surfaces
MRP-101 Dark Green [FS34079] as a first of the two-tone camo (Green-black)
MRP-173 Tyre-Rubber for the second color.
looking good
so far only wing and engine cowling painted with the black. Fuselage will be next.
fuselage masked with MRP masking putty
sprayed MRP Tyre-rubber
unmasked
and again - dry test fit
and with engine cowling. Loving the camo!
sprayed 2 coats of Mr. Color levelling thinner (just the thinner) over the whole model to smooth the surface a little bit and to get the black spots closer to satin finish
I think it is looking much better
after 2 hours of drying, decals are placed. Only 4 big red stars (2 for fuselage and 2 on the underside of the wings)
and one small tiny star on the front nose
floaters starting to get the paint job done
and also propeller finished. Will spray the whole thing with one or two coats of levelling thinner as well.
Aaaaaaand, it's done! 😄

Thank you everyone for kind words! This kit is absolutely excellent. Highly recommended! I'm tempted to get another one and build it again with other color scheme.

If anyone is planning to build this kit - check the photo 38 (page 4). I have got response from manufacturer regarding the engine part.
Lochsa_River - I hope you will enjoy the build as much as I did and I'm looking forward to see your build. 🙂

Hi Martin. That instrument panel work is a fine achievement. The problem you faced and overcame there seems to have enabled you to achieve a feeling of real depth on the dials across the instrument panel. Impressive stuff. 👍

Martin you did wetted my appetite for building this kit, too. I also have one of this in my stash waiting to get started.

Excellent and very intersting. Did you weathered the black part of the camo ?
