Album image #1
2020/21: OOB build of the '00 Italeri 1/48 kit.

Album image #2
Cockpit build and forcing wing section to sit right - this expanse of plastic was the most ill-fitting component in the kit.

Album image #3
Clamping the fuselage to ensure the wing angle is correct and meets fuselage correctly by using varying tension in elastic bands. Tamiya extra thin wasn't 'man enough' so I resorted to Revell cement and Plastic Magic afterwards.

Album image #4
Mottling with various grey paints to add depth to a flat finish. Paints are a mixture of Vallejo and Hataka.

Album image #5
Adding back in some white highlights.

Album image #6
Underside also getting a treatment - In retrospect I should have sorted the seam/join line by the nose better!

Album image #7
Painting armaments, cockpit, exhausts and airbrake work/masking.

Album image #8
Decal application after a coat of Future.

Album image #9
Adding in some grey washing and lines. Using my Humbrol stuff. Not because I particularly like it but because I have a tonne of it as it was cheap. Now I know why! It's a bit 'heavy' so a lot of fiddling with washes happened after this stage.

Album image #10
Grey washing at varying degrees of dilution and drying in-between, this bit takes time.

Album image #11
Grey washing and lines... Getting 'tighter'.

Album image #12
Cleaned up!

Album image #13
Now adding some dirt! I've seen many images of filthy Typhoons.

Album image #14
Cockpit and wheel work.

Album image #15
Tweaking the colour I've sprayed the fuel tanks, they're being matched in colour and shade now nearing finish.

Album image #16
Armaments being attached - I just paint these in an approximation of reality.

Album image #17
Wheels/undercarriage being attached, again painted in an approximation of reality.

Album image #18
Cockpit canopy being painted and further shading being added. I'm still tweaking washes and panel line washes at this stage

Album image #19
Small paint touch ups being added to missiles and undercarriage. Cockpit being finished and then re-dipped also, I dropped it!

Album image #20
Almost there! I still need one of those flash jig things!

Album image #21
And we're done! 🙂

Sweet! I really like all that streaking! 👍
Is that some kind of "Demonstration" aircraft? It also has Aeronautica Militare roundels.

Hi WhiteGlint 🙂 thanks for commenting on my latest build 👍 I'm afraid it's me taking my usual artistic licence... Again! It's broadly correct, but not quite. Sorry! Naughty me! 😆

No need to apologize, Neil.
I was just curious. Besides, this is hobby and we can do whatever we want, which is one of the best and most fun part of this hobby.

Awesome! Even though I'm an American fighter jet guy, the Typhoon is wicked cool. It just looks tough. Great work my friend!

@Flight Line Media 🙂 thanks very much indeed 👍 🙂 Yeah, you guys deffo have the coolest inventory. I'd agree for sure. But when we first started seeing flight demos at airshows of the Typhoon, Rafale and Gripen, all similar stuff timewise there wasn't much comparable imo, they just 'danced' - maybe those jets are uniquely European 😉

Beautiful result with a pretty crappy kit 🙂 The good thing about it is that it has not too many parts, so theres limited fit issues 😉

Thanks Carlos and Frantisek 😊

Thanks Petr. And yes Daniel you're right 👍 I was building a Zhengdefu A10 simultaneously and that was indeed a pain by comparison to this kit all went together pretty tightly and then it's all about the paint which is my favourite part 😁

Album info

Hi there,

Thanks for stopping by to view my latest build #15 the EF2000 Typhoon.

I build straight 'out-of-the-box' endeavouring to show my build journey in as few photographs as possible - this is my reason for utilising montage imagery to help reduce the image count of an album.

Kit appraisal: As a vintage builder who doesn't use after-market parts, I cannot use something newer and better manufactured to make an old kit look more realistic. I guess you'd say I'm creating an artistic representation of the aircraft. This build was a straight forward experience. There are some minor troublesome areas to fit and I made a bit of a hash of the forward fuselage, but the end result came together OK.

I always enjoy an Italeri kit, they were my preferred (and affordable) 1/72 choice as a child - so a build takes me back to my youth.

This build was uploaded on the 3rd September 2021.

I hope that the you find my build journey informative. 🙂
