Seaview: Diving In
Light blocking foil tape for the running lights. Forgot the foil is an excellent reflector AND conductor and shorted out the first set of LEDs! Sparked nicely. Insulated now!
Conning Tower in place.
Very precise seams on this kit will mean minimal filling. Still a bit required as you can see.
The Command Centre. Two blinking multicolored LEDs make some control panels blink. A bit overpowered but not by much.
Spent too much time in this! Painting, repainting, “wall papering” panels, drilling, washing.
Fiddly but I’m pleased. Kind of.
Lights done for aft dorsal fins and bow lamps. The dorsal lights needed smaller bulbs so a bit of grinding was necessary.
These will be on the same circuit, so notice that I underestimated resistance. The amperage should be .02 amps. Whoops. At 04, the lamp life would be shortened. Time to replace the resistors.
Dorsal fins. Kit comes with channels for wiring. Thanks Moebius!
Aft tail fins in place. The clamps are to close the fins around the LEDs.
Test fit. Woh. This thing is huge!
The propulsion tube assembly. I wanted the diving planes to move but they are designed for cementing. Added a rubber tab.
The Control Room/Flying Sub Bay assembly rewired to correct amperage and ready to glue in! This is the big scary step I’ve been dreading.
Propellers painted, weathered and mounted.
This is my most recent stage. It is from another album but I wanna make sure that you guys see this. Check out my latest albums if you want to see my progress over the last month or so.

David, I actually rewatched a few episodes to prepare for the build. It was way cooler when I was 8!😉

Ha! I think I accidentally did that when I let the conning tower leds touch the aluminum tape!

I'll give this five sonar pings! I've got this in my stash, also with lighting. Also picked up the sea lab as a stand for the flying sub. Ideally, you need to make a purple seaweed monster as a stand for the Seaview, complete with a web of fibreoptic lightning!

Thanks for the kind comments. John, you inspired me. Putting it out there: what VBS giant monster should I create for a diorama?

I was thinking of the regularly appearing creature that looked like it was made of purple seaweed. It had two glowing red eyes on stalks. Given the size of the creature, you might be better off making a suit to wear!. The alternative is a bearded scientist in a chunky cardigan. Who can forget that episode!

Yes, those are the ones. That's the sea lab I mentioned in the foreground of the second pic. The flying sub docks on top of it, so it makes a useful stand.

I'm a little confused, is this in 1:128 or 1:350 scale? The album shows 1:350, but the kit reference shows 1:128

TWN Thanks for catching this. I confused it with my Enterprise. You are correct.

you should make a giant creature holding it like in the picture (either one)

Great idea, Ben. I like John's suggestion that I just make a costume and be in the picture myself! I'm thinking hard about doing the bug-eyed creatures from the first pic. I like the idea of an "overlay" where I can add the creature or take it away depending on what mood I'm in!
I've seen lots of great custom bases out there designed to look like the sea bottom. That's cool too. I love the Sealab idea John suggested but the Paragraphix one is 75 USD, so if I make it, it will be a custom job!

Lighting is almost complete, including the diabolically tricky Bridge.
