F-117A Nighthawk
So far, so good with the photo etch. It really isn’t as daunting once you’ve done a few bends
Glosscoat applied, and a bit of wash will be added before gluing the pre-painted photo etch
Cockpit is mostly assembled. It think I prefer resin detail sets over the photo etch ones
I’m still surprised at how big this fighter is. I’ve removed the horizontal control surfaces to put them in a negative attitude
But if seam filling. This project has been put to the side for the time being
A last look at the cockpit before I glue the canopy
All external photoetch is attached.
This idea popped into my head. It would be a neat variation of the farewell scheme. This rudimentary edit doesn't really capture what I'm thinking, but the general idea would be the american flag fading/coming out of the dark edges. A mix off medium/dark gray, black, navy, and rubber black would give it some nice dimension. My only concern is that in order to really make the effect work properly, I would need to cover too much of the farewell theme.
Some filler where I cut the flaps off. I’m still looking for source material to see how the flaps are connected
I’m a moment of madness, I attached the flaps before fully removing the seam between fuselage and wings. I also need to do some cleanup of the flaps as I got glue everywhere
Seams are improving. One more round of sanding and putty should do the trick
The glue mess has been fixed on the flaps
Lots of progress today. The tail fins are attached and the landing gear bay doors are positioned to be painted
Launcher assembly and gbu-27s are assembled.
Fully primed. There are some imperfections that I’m still not fully happy with, so I will go back and do some touch ups with the putty

Keep calm and carry on! 😉 Watching with interest and pleasure, of course!

A fantastic build oliver. Do you remember if you used the kit's intake parts under the photo etch intake grill, or just the photo etch part?

I ended up not using the kit part, nor did I hollow out the intake area. I'm very excited to be back on this build after quite some time away.

Very cool, following! If I'm not mistaken there's a pretty new Detail & Scale for the F-117 out there, might have answers for your flap connection question.

That's a fantastic suggestion, can't believe I didn't think about that

This is my first time using extensive photo etch, so it will be a valueable experience for when I get started on the USS Freedom
