Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2/Trop (WIP)
Cockpit ready to close
Cockpit ready to close
The G and the F (in the foreground)
Closed and ready to mode on…
Wings joined with fuselage
Big gaps in the wing roots
Air filter installed - very difficult, used a combination of PVA Ultra Glue from Ammo (first) and CA glue (second)
Preparing the landing gear with 0,2mm copper wire and 1mm Tamiya tape
Perfect Plastic Putty...
...a swipe with a wet (water) cotton bud and it's ready to go! 🙂
Radiator covers ready, with the tiny PE
Glueing the radiator covers: lousy fit here
AK white primer applied
Flat white using Gunze H-11 on the wintips and rear fuselage band
RLM78 applied with AK Real Color RC281
RLM79 applied with AK Real Color RC283
MRP RML 04 applied over white AK primer diluted with Mr Leveling Thinner
Some post shading with diluted Gunze H37
Some post shading with diluted Tamiya XF-18
Painting RLM02 bits with the lovely MRP-50
The AK Real Color are nice and smooth but very, very fragile!
Touch ups and corrections made, X-22 varnish applied
Some light sanding
Masking
MRP red applied over white primer
Ready for decals
Starting to apply the HGW decals - they are very thin, and wondeful to apply but you can see a pixelized texture to the drawings and the color is to stark, too even and with too much contrast with the base color of the plane; this is the picture still with the top film, drying
Removing the top film...
...top film removed!
All decals applied; in this picture some still have the top film; I started going over them with a diluted coat of RLM79 to integrate the look
Peeling, again!!! 🙁
All fixed up, a mist of RLM79 applied irregulary to integrate a bit the decals and X-22 applied on top, ready to proceed
Decals applied, light chipping on the wings root done, varnished and all ready for the pin wash
Ammo pin washes applied (A.MIG 1610 below, A.MIG 1616 on the RLM04, A.MIG 1612 on the RLM79 and A.MIG 1607 on the white); varnished with Hataka Satin Varnish XP08
Some effects with black oil around the engine
Time for final touch ups
Finished!!!

Nice detail, is that all in the kit or have you added extras to the cockpit?

Thank you @Edouard, it's all in the kit; only exceptions are the wires in the main landing gear legs and, of course, the HGW decals for the Heinrich Bär scheme

Thank you Kyle; the tool is starting to show some age, but it is still a great kit

I am quite sure you'll overcome any tooling issues. Look forward to seeing it come along.

I'm going to get confused following these two Trop builds, but I can't wait to see the results.

😄 Welcome, Nathan; I keep them both on the table and take care to separate the pictures of them

Thank you Kyle - indeed, this color is very nice, I never painted any plane with such a tone; moving fast forward, only the RLM 04 remaining to close the painting, then RLM 02 touch ups and forward to the decals!!! 🙂

Thank you mates; indeed, I almost never use primer and also never wash the model before painting, but these paints are really fragile, when compared to Gunze or Tamiya; also more than MRP; the most resistant colors I know are the Hataka ones! And thank you for the warning about the decal solutions @Roland. 👍

Oh! that sucks. I often apply a very thin coat of Clear (mat in my case) after the fisrt color coat is apply & before applying masking tape for extra protection. At least, in your case the iron cross must be lose to mask the whole area

Well, I'll correct it, no problem, and then, as you say, the cross will cover most of it 🙂

Excellent work Ricardo! I am intrigued by the HGW decals, I have never used those before and am considering getting a few sets.

My first time also; technically they are nice, I'm just a bit disappointed with the pixelized effect, noticeable on the curves, but they do settle very well indeed; being the replication of a sprayed squiggle, I would prefer that the color was irregular, but I'm trying to do that by painting on top of them

Seems like the paint is fighting you at every step, Ricardo.
Still looking great!

Thank you mates; @Ben, I would say it's a combination of the paint being fragile and the kit being dirty: I never wash and almost never prime the models - it works fine with Tamiya, Gunze, MRP or Hataka… not so much with AKRC, evidently… 😊
