'69 Camaro Z/28 RS
And away we go!
Let the modifications begin
Enlarged the tip of the starter with a small magnet. Just thought I'd try something new. Not sure if I like it. Will know better once the piece is finished.
This is the finished starter. I'm happy with it
My own mix of Chevy engine red.
The camera makes it look more red than it is...
Finished with hand painted Vallejo Model Air Silver.
SMS Jet Black + Mr Levelling Thinners
SMS Chassis Black with touches of SMS Chrome Marker and Vallejo Model Air Silver.
A little repair needed on this piece. Tamiya putty to the rescue.
Gap filled with Tamiya putty.
I'm usually scared of spiders, but this one is okay.
Engine coming along nicely.
Tyred coated in a light wash of Tamiya rubber black.
Kept the kit chrome for the wheels and added a bit of black panel liner.
More black panel liner added to the front grill. I may still add more. I find this easier than sanding and painting each hole.
These parts don't look too good, so I may have to bleach and rechrome them.
Chrome very carefully removed from the steering wheel with a ceramic scraper.
Wooden steering wheel base coat done in Tamiya XF-92 Yellow Brown Dak 1941
Woodgrain added using a grey gundam marker.
The body is good, no major issues, just the usual Revell sanding.
Uh oh, spoke too soon! Will have to fill this in with some putty.
I will cut these air vents out.
Ignition coil intalled
Engine completed!
Back to square one with this. A little too much retarder in the clear orange just wiped everything away.
Used an acrylic black marker this time roun
Much better!
All cleaned up
Let the flocking begin!
Most parts painted and ready for assembly.
Ran out of SMS Jet Black, so mixed some Tamiya X1 Black with Mr Levelling Thinners. Happy with the result.
SMS Stainless Steel used for the exhaust header.
SMS Hyperchrome Cold on the exhaust.
The instructions called for the rear shocks to be white, but that's a little boring! Thought I'd be creative and make them pop. This is SMS Crystal Topaz over SMS Yellow. The pearl doesn't really show up in the photo unfortunately.
Dashboard complete.
Centre console installed.
Making seatbelt buckles from some leftover sprue.
Buckles are scratch made and painted in chrome marker. The tongues and bolts are additional PE. The belt is 2mm ribbon.
Body primed with Mr Surfacer 1500 Pink. First coat revealed some lumps and bumps so back to sanding and patching.
More coats of Mr Surfacer 1500.
Then a coat of Chevy engine red. This is my own mix of Tamiya acrylics (red 10 : orange 8 : yellow 3) mixed with Mr Levelling Thinners.
Some slight orange peel, but nothing major. Looking forward to wet sanding this one.
So, after wet sanding and burning through in a couple of spots, I added a few more coats and let dry. After wet sanding a second time I am left this.
Not sure why this happened and unsure where to go from here.
Okay... so I resprayed it again this time, adding a few coats of clear on top. Left it a few days and this is how it came out.
There was hardly any orange peel so I skipped wet sanding and went straight for the Tamiya compounds.
Ready for decals.
Decals and 2k down... although the 2k decided to cough up a little on the last coat.
This will need some serious sanding.
The inside on the bonnet (hood) is done with Mr Surfacer 1500 Black straight from the spray can. This gave me the look I was after so stopped there.
Got the bumps out with a tonne of wet sanding. Started with 4000 and worked up to 8000, then onto the Tamiya compounds.
The chrome is Molotow done free-hand with some masking
Done!

I'm watching, you made wonderful work. Whats the plan for the body? Red with black top?

Thanks guys! Not sure on the body colour at this stage. I had planned on doing it using the Chevy Engine Red, but then see another colour and want to change my mind haha.

Ohhh not good paint problems
I'm sorry I don't know enough to help you but hang in there mate
It won't be long before more experienced people will be giving
You some possible ways to sort it out and also provide possible
Reason why this happened
I did have a model were I had something like it happen
I broke all the rules
Didn't wash the model before paint
And I think another problem I had was not wanting longer to overcoat
But sure am interested in what happened and how to fix it

This is suspicious. Necer saw this. If I were you, I'd spray bnodycolor lightly over all. Then a couple of clear coats (I'd try 3). Then it should be possible to wetsand the clear coat only if there are imperfections before spray the final layer.

i had nearly the same paintissues on my 57 BelAir i'm working on. i sanded the body wet with 4000 grid and painted the parts with bodycolor again. i've redone that twice, after taht i painted some layer of clear coats.

Peter built one kit and was better than me. 🤣 I'd like to be able to build not at his best too. I think it looks great!!

Peter I think most her would be happy whed half your results
I sure would
But now an then
Amazing talent comes along
You are only young and have a long life infront of you
There is no limit to what you can do
This build is amazing even if it took that extra effort
The fact that you can see improvement speaks for itself
I am sure you will also be successful in all that you ever do
Have a great newyear and looking forward to see your new builds in the new year
