P-38G Painting and Chipping
Knocked back the contrast a bit with various Tans and Greens.
Used NATO black for pre-shading lines.
Neutral Grey used for underside.
Repeated process up top. Mainly stuck with Tamiya Buff to shade provide overall shading.
Slowly building up the Olive Drab using very thinned down paint.
I used a Yellow/Green to pickout the panels I wanted to highlight.
Scour pad used for panel highlighting.
Final coat of Olive drab. I do think I went too far in some places and I would have liked to see some more variability. Overall pretty happy with it however.
I wanted some areas heavily worn and used Ammo "heavy chipping" to create the chips.
Overall really happy with the build so far and my first attempt at a Olive Drab aircraft.

JohnNice! Chipping effects look really good. I think the color variation looks fine. You're right though, it is quite easy to overdo the top coat...it will look fine when laid down, but the variations can disappear somewhat as the paint dries if too much has been applied.
