Short Sunderland
Ready for some primer
Definitely raised rivets and panel lines, but not too bad at all.
Looks like it will be a nice kit to do.
Getting more bits glued together and deciding on a paint scheme...
Masking at the ready for the top camo
Decided on the Sea grey and Slate grey camo finish, the single slate grey scheme for the top was just a little blah..
My way of getting nice circle finish on the engine cowlings, with a suitable size washer.
This is pretty much finished, ancient decals worked with a coat of Microscale decal film, except the wing roundels which I eventually painted with the help of some appropriate fibre washers and some cutouts from a hole puncher tool I have from a car upholstery upgrade i did.
Also did a 1/144 Sikorsky HO-3S Dragonfly from Miniwings as a side project when waiting for things to dry or set on the Sunderland.
a better view of the underwing bombs
Tried out the seaside placemats I made from CoastalKits(UK) contact prints. Not sure if the Sunderland needs more weathering or not......
Dragonfly in the background.
Went back and looked at some WWII archive photos of the Sunderland and noticed that they were very well used and beaten up, so I went heavy on the 'dirty look', most of it seems to have worked, its all about learning new things anyway. Looks better than the 'clean' version at least.
A more grubbier and pronounced waterline, not quite the result I intended, might go over it with some white/grey to tone it down a bit.
The end.

Thanks Alex, yes I like the simpler old kits sometimes as well. Now that I have found a local site that has a great collection of older kits for sale, more are coming !

Awesome model. I would've never guessed it was such small scale. Also love that Ho3S-1 photo bombing. Great idea for photo backdrops too. I thought it was a diorama until I saw the type up.
