Douglas SBD Dauntless

Lessons: Still need to learn how to dilute thinner (Mr. Surface or Tamiya) for a paint brush. First attempt was bad that it clogged the airbrush so ended up priming it with a black matte Tamiya spray can. The one thing that worked out was dipping the canopy in Future, first coat with the interior paint XF4 and then top coat was the neutral grey of the fuselage. Still need to learn how to 'weather' using oil paints as i used the tamiya panel accent (black) and as you can see it collected in some areas. Used the New Zealand decals so the fuselage color scheme is not historically accurate. Saw the color scheme on a prior post and really liked it but used the wrong grey (should have been darker). The white parts of the NZ decals blend into the white fuselage paint (will plan better next round). (areas of future project focus: cockpit details, weathering, full fuselage/decal planning)
