Thanks Gorby! This is my second vacu kit build and this time it feels a little bit more straight forward…
My experience so far with vacu kits is that you have to spend a good amount of time on fitting, sanding and putty work to get a nice base for paint and finishing. Also spending quite some time reviewing old photos to get a good picture of the details. This as there is a fair amount of scratch work to get a decent build.

Thanks Mr D for your comments.
There will certainly be scratch build involved, mainly regarding the details as it looks for now. Otherwise I will raid my spare part stash first in order to save time and frustration.
If you are intrested in vac kits you can also have a look at my first vac kit:

@Mr D - yes you will need some good scissors as a start😅, for the fine tuning of the parts I normally use saw razor blades and sanding paper of variuos grits. Regarding glue I use "normal" Tamyia Extra Thin, the vacu kit plastic is often quite soft and melts easily.

@Skyhiker - Happy to hear that your following with great intrest. Usually the building pace goes down during the sommer period as I have been reminded that we have a garden that also need some TLC…😂
Nevertheless, yes there is planning and ordning of parts going on behind the scenes. Cockpit need to be done, rescribing the full kit, alignment of wheels as the mold was totally off-set. Drill out all machine guns for after market parts etc.
The main work will be to prepare the plane for NMF look also including some aluminum dope areas. Will try AK's metal paints this time. Stay tuned!

The buildy bit is nearly complete so, as usual I'm playing catch-up with the report. Hopefully another update tomorrow. 🙂

Another build in the series "What's gorby up to now?" Be honest, though. The only reason you didn't have orange flares was that you couldn't get over the fence at the local airfield to steal a couple of windsocks!

Scale models can be converted? So like a F111 model could be fitted with a nuke even though the original model didnt have one?

Definitely Kesa, there is a whole range of aftermarket conversions you can buy or if you are feeling adventurous, some conversions are reasonably easy to scratch build yourself. I have a couple of drawers full of plastic sheet of various thickness and plastic and metal rods, tubes, strips etc. I once saw a fantastic large scale scratch build of a B17 build that used the plastic from yogurt pots as the skin.

I found a link to the B17 I mentioned. It shows what is possible:

Thanks David, that might have been the reason. 👍
Thanks Spanjaard. That B17 is one of the best scratch-builds I've ever seen - well beyond my ability. I think he sold it to a museum in the US.

I use it as a final step before priming to polish out tiny scratches. Also use it on clear parts - I think it gives a more realistic shine to clear parts than Pledge floor wax. First found out about it when I had to polish out a canopy that required a good bit of sanding.

Thanks mates! I used the colours straight out of the jar, with lighter US od freckles over the lighter UK od.

I have three of those kits in the stash waiting for a triple build, so I will follow with great interest. You nailed the colors pretty much perfect. It's quite an elusive greenish brown that looks different on each photo, and not easy to mix yourself. BTW, did you have problems getting the nose weights in place?

Well, it's not too roomy. I used material for tyre balancing in nose and behind the cockpit bulkhead, appr. 15g.

Thank you everyone for your likes. 😀
Harald. I put the two side by side to show the differences in the paint. It was an eye opener to see how there was so much variation on such a color!
Giannis, I used X-19 + X-24 using a 5:1 ratio. Perhaps a 4:1 would have worked better. I'll note this in the pictures for reference.
RichardL from this forum deserves the credit for the Have Glass mixture I based the new build off of - arcforums.com/forums..70-who-got-it-right/
