Well we survived that darn hurricane and had power restored yesterday by some fine Canadian fellows from Nova Scotia. The project continues with some progress to the fuselage.

Watching. Glad you weathered the hurricane ok. Did not know you were in Florida. I am a transplanted Florida guy. I am from Panama City. Was down there the end of August, first time I had been back since 2001. Hurricane Michael sure messed up the place, but they have rebuilt a lot. The house I lived in from 1995-2001 no longer exist, hurricane Michael leveled it.

We were part of mandatory evac. I sent the family away and stayed since my parents are next door in a 100 year old frame home. We were lucky and had minimal damage. We just lost large oaks and our entire cow field was a shallow lake. Power was out for a while but I'm used to living simple during such times. Yeah Michael was a monster.
The plastic in this kit is quite fragile. Getting parts off the tree cleanly is quite difficult. Very happy with the ResKit parts! They are very clean and easy to prepare.

More work today included adding etched parts to the rear fuselage and filling large holes intended for oversized antennas. Will be replacing all antennas with etched parts or thin plastic sheet.

Nathan, I love checking in from time to time, (super busy with Hurricane Helene and Milton recovery at the house and the rented house.). Anyway, glad to see you start this project. Did you ever build the Monogram Mirage 2000 and ESCI Jaguar I sold you? K/r, Dutch

Thanks Clifford & Desert!
Dutch: Same here. Still cutting downed trees and burning it all. Too much to place by the streets. The Mirage waits in the stash and the Jag was built as a close copy of my Kosovo build and given to a friend.

Added some photos of continuing work which includes more paint work on the landing gear and exhaust, the addition of the painted ejection seat to the cockpit & the completed external fuel tank.

Looks great! I suppose you are aware that the Mirage 2000 series aircraft have the option of an arresting hook or a parachute for landing? I believe either can be installed but only one of the two depending on airfields and conditions. Referring to photo #5.

Thanks Clifford & thanks for the catch on that parachute housing Desert!
I found a good picture of a '91 Mirage 2000 with the bigger chaff dispenser replacing the back of that housing. I'll need to go back and file that off and change the position of all the chaff dispensers. I'll add some pictures this evening.

Finally back at the bench and was able to do some pre-shading today.

A little bit of an update. I have finished the riveting and the masking of the cockpit and I have also done the pre-shading and marbling before the paint.
I decided to go with a paint set from Hataka this time, so the next update will have to wait until it arrives.

Another update. The camo is finished. Although I'm happy with the end result, the Hataka paints is going to take a while to get used to. They are not like the gunze/mr. color and Tamya that I usually use.
Next up is decals. 🙂

Do you mind me asking what was happening with the Hataka paints and were you using the acrylic set?

Thanks James!
Yes, it was the acrylic set. I had a couple of things happen. I used the Hataka acrylic thinner to thin the paint for the airbrush and it had quite alot of soapy stuff in it creating bubbles in the paint mix in the cup of the airbrush, which resulted in a very uneven paint spray out of the airbrush. I guess that could just be me getting the mix wrong, but I will probably use tamiya X-20A as a thinner the next time.
The second thing is that I sometimes use Mr.Color Leveling thinner to thin acrylic paints and that did not work at all with these paints. That mix turned into a stringy gunk that clogged up the airbrush.
But I'm sure they will work just fine when I have worked with them a bit more and learned how to use them properly. As I said, I am happy with the end result. 🙂

I have done the first stage of weathering with oil washes and a matt layer on top of that. After assembly, I will do some additional weathering and detail painting. I will keep it as clean as I can for this one.

Beautiful work, I enjoy seeing how people paint at what level of subassemblies Vs masking. Your airbrush control is amazing, the preshading is a work of art by itself

I've added the Eduard Essex class carrier deck to the project, so I will have to find some good reference for the painting. It looks like it will be a nice addition with all the weathered wood and steel.😉

Another update. I have finished the drop tank and also worked on the carrier deck. I will probably do some more weathering of the deck in the future. Tyre marks oil spill etc, but as for now I consider it finished. Now I only have the figure painting left to do.

That's a VERY impressive build! The diorama is beautiful. I have a question about the wooden deck - I thought they were all painted blue at the beginning of the war. Do you have any info on that question. The paint job on the Corsair is just the right amount of shading.
