Bouton Paul Defiant Mk I - NI744 JT-S 256 Sqn
Started as a rainy day project… not bad for what I could get done after dinner in one night.
Black based and then over sprayed with aluminum to provide a base for some salt chipping
Starting off on a distinctive paint scheme with a nice basic Temperate Land Scheme
Then ruined with a crust of salt
What the hell have I done!?!?
After the salt is all chipped off
Just to show that I haven’t completely lost my marbles, here’s the subject of my build, a very forlorn looking Defiant, where the black paint, applied over the factory dark earth and dark green has almost completely failed and come off.
All badged up and canopy an turret installed

Finished save a few small details that I just remembered. I’ll take care of those tonight and get some better pictures in daylight tomorrow

Took a few final pictures in overcast natural light…

Thanks guys. As to how I painted it, the balance of the technique is in the earlier pictures. First I black based the whole airframe and then covered that in a layer of "Aluminum". This was sprayed with hairspray and some salt was added to a few areas here and there. Then a basic RAF Dark Green/Dark Earth scheme was painted on. The salt exposing the aluminum underneath was cleaned off, and a heavy coat of salt and hairspray was then applied before spraying the whole model with NATO black. Once dry, the salt was cleaned off and I started with an ear bud working on the chipped areas and then went crazy with washes, pigments, detail work with the airbrush, some sponges, and brushes until it was right.
