AMT International CO4070A
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/1/5/5/1612155-53519-51-720.jpg)
And here it is! This 4070 will be built up mostly OOB (I'm fine, I promise) aside from some photoetch from CTM and the usual added engine and chassis plumbing
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/1/5/7/1612157-53519-91-720.jpg)
Starting with the engine of course. Parts prep has been a breeze for this kit so far. This brand new tool is kicking out some very clean parts. The mating features are also very intelligent in their design, and poka-yoked for those of us who tend to get a bit too excited during the buildup phase
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/1/5/6/1612156-53519-43-720.jpg)
And now it's revealed why I selected this kit - a beautifully detailed Detroit 8v71
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/1/5/8/1612158-53519-55-720.jpg)
Engine now ready for paint, with some added plumbing
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/1/5/9/1612159-53519-60-720.jpg)

![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/6/7/7/1632677-53519-39-720.jpg)
Frame is going together without any major drama
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/6/7/8/1632678-53519-35-720.jpg)
A massive amount of plumbing was added prior to paint
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/6/7/6/1632676-53519-25-720.jpg)
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/6/7/9/1632679-53519-79-720.jpg)
I'll also be adding some PE parts from CTM's detail set designed for this kit
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/0/0/6/1642006-53519-23-720.jpg)
Primer and paint is on! Went with my favorite here (Tamiya X18)
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/0/0/7/1642007-53519-61-720.jpg)
Second round of color
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/0/0/5/1642005-53519-55-720.jpg)
A few brief snags during assembly... more likely due to all of my additional plumbing, but I think the rails are just a little too far apart here. I'll have to replace the integrally molded braces...
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/0/0/8/1642008-53519-32-720.jpg)
My bench is really only clean between projects...
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/0/0/9/1642009-53519-60-720.jpg)
Chassis isn't quite done yet - air cleaner still needs work - but we're getting there

![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/3/9/2/1651392-53519-60-720.jpg)
The kit dash was nicely detailed, but I've removed the features in preparation to receive the printed photoetch
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/3/8/6/1651386-53519-20-720.jpg)
These are the last parts that need cleanup before moving on to painting
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/3/8/7/1651387-53519-68-720.jpg)
Sanding away the detail on the cab trim as well - this too will be replaced by photetch
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/3/8/8/1651388-53519-41-720.jpg)

Still haven't really decided and a paint scheme... fortunately, AMT includes some nice reference material with the kit
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/3/9/5/1651395-53519-84-720.jpg)
First round of color... masking and additional colors to come soon
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/2/7/0/1653270-53519-56-720.jpg)
Really appreciate that this separate headliner design was carried over from the original kit
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/2/7/2/1653272-53519-38-720.jpg)
Much painting later...
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/2/7/1/1653271-53519-70-720.jpg)
Well... gonna need a bit of cleanup...
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/2/7/4/1653274-53519-80-720.jpg)
Cleanup done and clear coat applied

Actually going to build this one up as showroom-new, along with the companion trucks that will follow... always more of a challenge, as one can hide a lot with weathering!

Powertrain went together pretty easy, as expected. Next I'll start on the frame... hopefully among everything else I have going on at the moment, I can still have a rolling chassis done by the new year.

I'll take a seat as well. Nice job on the engine!
Where do you get all your wiring and plumbing info from? I'm trying to find some for a Fruehauf trailer, but either I'm using the wrong words or there isn't much out there.

Yes, some good stuff there. For the most part, my references come from my experience working around trucks with quite a bit of googling to fill in the gaps.

I try Brandon. Unfortunately, our stuff is very different from your American stuff. So I try to get as many reference pictures, as I can, when I'm stateside.

Finally getting caught up with updates - chassis assembly has been coming along mostly nicely

Excellent progress mate! Gives me fond memories of doing my Transtar Eagle 2. A very similar kit, but the plumbing is slightly different for the exhaust and air cleaner.

Thanks Bozzer!
Ah yes, I always did prefer the square headlight bezels on that one... here's to hoping that kit makes a return someday as well

Rolling chassis is now complete - the rest of the truck should be done in short order, given how nicely this kit has gone together thus far

Excellent! It does not have paint edge flaws anywhere. It looks as precise as a computer rendering.

![](/profiles/img/53519-110-s.jpg)
Thanks Jennifer and Bill.
It's a very well designed kit - all new tooling and the parts come out clean and crisp. Honestly, you just need to shake the box up a few times and a finished truck will fall out.
That's probably why the paint still looks good too - bumps and scratches tend to happen when fiddling with ill fitting parts.

Forward progress continues... can I have it finished in time for the show this weekend? I guess we're gonna find out

Brandon, I love that dashboard, but your attention to detail is amazing!
What did it for me, was the power lead and antenna lead, disappearing into the headlining of the cab!
I can see another trophy coming! 🎯💥🏆🏆🏆

István, unfortunately you can't see much of the inside, but we know that it's there, and done in fine style. I guess that it's possible to open up the doors, but with the timescale that Brandon has, I believe that he's already excelled himself? In fact, he just keeps getting better, the lucky bugger! 😉

Thanks guys! No time for opening the doors up on this one...
I did manage to complete it in time for the 4M show, and was able to take home a silver medal.

Silver? Man, that must've been tough competition, you were up against!
Congratulations on another win, my friend. Extremely well deserved!!
Lol, I bet that the paint was still drying, as you collected your medal 😉

Q: Re. the shiny metal bands around the two fuel tanks. What aftermarket parts are these, or, what material? Steel? Chrome painted brass? Chrome painted styrene?
3 June, 13:41
![](/profiles/img/53519-110-s.jpg)
Hi Treehugger, those bands were part of the photoetch set I used from Czech Truck Model (all chrome plated brass)
