Album info

Hello,
Here is my interpretation of the Tamiya 1/48 scale Swordfish kit. Overall, it's a very beautiful and highly detailed model. The adjustments are very well done overall. The Tamiya engineering spirit is evident, and the assembly is well thought out. For rigging, I used the appropriate photoetch set. Tamiya's wing, masts and rigging assembly processes are well designed, but they require the assembly of both wings (upper and lower) to be absolutely perfect. In practice, this is hardly ever the case (at least, I could not achieve it personally). Furthermore, with the proposed assembly option, it becomes practically impossible to fill (with putty) the residual spaces between the masts and the wing.
In the end, I chose to attach the rigging after assembling both wings and masts. This also allowed me to adjust their length.
The paint references provided by Tamiya are, in my opinion, questionable at best…. Eventually I ’choose : Upper surface : RAF Dark Green and RLM75, Lower Surface: RAF Sky (there is a debate about whether or not, it should be “sky grey” or “sky”…..).
The kit was mainly painted with MRP paint.
I’also made a small modification, by cutting the leading edge slat on the upper wings, as they were usually “hanging down” when the aircraft was on ground.

Hope you like it.

Thanks for looking.

Didier
