Album info

At the end of the war, at least three Bf 109s with a tulip pattern on the nose were found at Nemecky Brod (Havlíčkův Brod). The surviving engine cowling bears paint in shades of grey and tulip red. These were probably machines of the JG 52 staff, commanded by Commodore Hermann Graf, who had the same markings in 1943 with JG50. When Oberst Graf became commander of JG 52 in October 1944 he introduced his markings to the JG 52 staff as well, including the green fuselage numbers. Graf transferred two wingmen to his camp, Lt. Anton Resch and Oblt Heindrich Füllgrabe (67 kills; RK holder), who was killed in January 1945 in the "green 2" machine. By the end of the war, Resch had scored most of JG 52's staff victories, and it is possible that he also flew 332529. In early April 1945, he was awarded the Knight's Cross and achieved a total of 91 victories in 210 combat sorties.
