Northrop Gamma, Polar Star NR-12269 (1935)
On the original pictures shows nearly invisible „panel lines” between alu sheets and a lot of rivets.
Ailerons (classic design in comparison with “Sky Chief”) separated from the wings. The left (right side in the picture) sanded in shape.
Panel lines completed. Rivets, cut and hinges coming soon.
As usual I used connections pins (old pc board, memory bank slot) for hinges (elevators were thick enough).
hinges, panel lines and rivets for the ailerons coming soon.
I sanded away the molded stiffeners because they were in the way of the riveting job and I restored them after riveting.
Transparent resin on wingtips as flush position lights.
Several rectangular inspection hatches. Hinge arms for ailerons.
Bolts of 0,38 mm round rod on tailing edge in place. Actuator links not installed yet.
NASM, Washington.
4 overlapping panels per side completed. Masking for two more in place.
Added canopy rails.
The rim around the window is well visible (access door reinforcement sheet).
The gap between fuselage and wing filled with plastic and CA.
Template for clear parts (all was made of plain panels)
The rails: ...I found round rod with 0.24 mm diameter...
New technology for making windows.
The language of an ingenieur is a drawing 🙂
0,28 mm thick and bended clear plastic as replacement for the 2 inner Tesa layers.
