Tamiya 1/32 F-14A Tomcat, VF-1 , 1975
Took a little work, but the Black Box cockpit tub is in.
I think I need a bigger bench.
I sprayed the whole thing the Tamiya white primer out of the can.
Used an enamel paint pen for the gear door edges. I'm a fan!
Used Flying Leatherneck spoiler masks.
Had a can of Model Master light gull grey...
...then used my Tamiya acrylic to give it some highlights.
Flying Leatherneck masks worked great!
First attempt at the anti-glare panel.
Gunze acrylic redone tan on the nose.
I bought Eduard and Flying Leatherneck canopy masks and was disappointed by both. Neither fit but luckily the F-14 canopy is not very complex.
Nearing the end! Cockpit, burner can, and sundry little bits to go. Just may have a big ol' turkey for Thanksgiving!
If you look real close, you can see the angle of attack sensor made from milled metal.
If you look at the top of the number 6, you can see the angle of attack sensor installed.
The milled metal nose cap installed.
Almost done! Burner cans, nav lights, pitot tubes, and maybe a little weathering

Did you make your own landing lights, or are those aftermarket?
Very nice build so far.

I was in this squadron from 1990 till it decommissioned in late 1993. Looks great so far.

Congratulations! My kit is on the shelf of doom. I plan to re-scribe it at least partially, and add some weathering. Is it a 1/144 Tomcat besides?

Nice and well done. I have a part started kit that I returned as much as possible to the beginning. Does the kit need rescribing or is it acceptable as is?

ROY: Most of the kit has recessed panel lines, including the wings, nose and vertical stabs. The fuselage aft of the cockpit is raised, but I was fine with it. The good news is that it mostly straight lines, so if you want to do a little rescribing, I don't think it would be too hard.

Ever since I saw this kit when it first came out in the early 80s, it has been on my bucket list. A while a go during a regular visit to my local hobby shop, an original issue was on his resale pile. With the price on $60 including the Black Box resin cockpit, it was an easy sale...
