The aircraft "red 546" is believed to have been flown by I.P.Galyshevsky, 351 IAP for the Democratic People's Republic Korea Air Force (DPRKAF).
By the early summer of 1951 US command had limited daytime B-29 bombing raids and in October they were switched completely to night raids. Seeing the change in the strategy of the US command, the Soviet command began preparing a specialized regiment for combat operations at night. The 351st regiment began to be created based on 153rd Air Division and was equipped only with the La-11 - piston fighters. It started to gather the pilots with experience of night fighting in difficult weather conditions.
In September 1951, as B-29s were appearing in the night sky, the first interceptions were a clear failure, since it was difficult to compete with the B-29s while flying the La-11. The B-29s were flying as high as 10km altitude and were almost as fast as the La-11, making them almost impossible to intercept. After a series of experiments it was established that only the MiG-15 could take this role of intercepting the B-29 during night missions.
Since the autumn of 1952, the USAF actively began to use night interceptors/escorts ahead of bombing raids. The first night dogfights took place already as early as the 2nd of November. In January 1952, Major Galyshevsky literally completely destroyed one B-29. According to intelligence data, it was established that the B-29 soon crashed into the sea, before reaching its base. This was the last victory of the pilots of the 351-th regiment. 18 February The 1953 g. Regiment in full force went home.
Altogether, it seems that the famous "red 546" might have never been flown by Galyshevsky, since the aircraft might have only been a propaganda aircraft, with which numerous other pilots have had their pictures taken.
