Test Super Hornet - 1/48 Hobby Boss
New month coming, time for a new Project <3
WSO Panel I believe for Block II Super Bugs? Outstanding details from "Metallic Details"
Some modifications needed to be done for the Hobby Boss Cockpit
Meh, looks alright, still some trimming needed
PE out of box....Nice touch!
Good Progress for just 2 hrs of figuring things out ^^'
Finally some progress. Fit of the intakes are impeccable
Kinda leaving the route of the manual. The way they split up the fuselage is interesting but a handful. I glued the sides of the rear fuselage on the top half before bringing the top and bottom together to assure a mostly seamless fit
Ejection seat & Instrument Panel parts painted.
Pre-painting some blind areas. before continuing with the build
Cockpit assembly prepped. Opted to paint the modeled Details, instead of using the oob Decals, which are only included for the front Cockpit for some reason??
I dare say: Nice!
The three painted areas (Wing, aft. Spine) had some small ejection marks that were removed. Just using leftover paint to see, if there is anymore need for putty.
The box looking the part 🙂
Not sure if I'll leave the maintenance doors open or not. Time will tell
Sand-Buga-loo...
Minor fitment issues on a new Tool, oh well...

Minor gaps
Test fitment of vertical Stabilizers
Looking like a "Murder Hornet"
Kinda surprised of how many parts are need just for ONE landing gear leg (8). None the less, nice details
Don't know, the strut on the front of the leg looks like it's wrong (retractor?). At least according to reference images.
Took some of the kit with me to work, to keep me awake and alert in the night shift. Didn't get much done, since I forgot alot of essential tools?
...realizing how big this thing getting.... love it❤️
Hm, minor fitment issues
Still some sanding needed
Mocked up on landing gear with canopy and stabilizers. Quite tail heavy, should have added a 5gram weight to the nose
Tackeling the very very subtle seamline in the canopies.
...Gauzy dipping
Loadout partially completed. Main aircraft pretty much ready for priming
While I was waiting for liquid mask to dry, I decided to finish the exhaust cans. First was a layer of flat black, followed by a layer AK's Jet exhaust. Afterwards I marbeled some copper onto the petals
...then at low pressure some pale burnt metal, to uniform the colors...
Finally, a thin layer of a mix of metallic blue, pale burnt metal and a few drops of dark aluminum to round it off. Quite happy with result til now.... maybe I'll add a layer of Tamiya smoke, still undecided.
Primed
Pre marbeling. Going easy on discolouration with this one, since it seem it didn't sea to much offshore action
Hopefully these don't end up looking to samy
Turned out alright. Was hoping that the FS35237 would have a bit more of blue tone. But still within expectations
The color tone of the ak's fs35237 bugged the hell out of me. Repainted the tail with their dark mod Eagle grey, which comes alot closer to the dxm decals
... seems my 36320 was still slightly contanimated with 36375.... time to repaint
Better....
Details really come out thx to the panelwash
Sealed with Tamiya x-35
Some dirtiness added, using oils and white spirit
"Dirty hands"
Trying to keep it subtle, but Hornets, even Landbased, get a bit dirty dirty...
Nearly completed, still wann Grab something from my kinetic hornet to complete this bird. And damn, shes heavy!
Final Images, thank you for Following 🙂

Marbling looking great! This is white marble on black right?
Those AK colors are spot on from my experience 👍
Looking forward to the next updates!

Very nice work, looking good! 👍
The nozzles sure are something to look at. 👀

Yeah these paints sometimes "eat each other" when thin layers with highly thinned paints are applied. Which is a good thing if you want a TPS camo nicely blended...in your case not so desirable...
But why did you do a complete repaint if only the spine needed fixing? Used different color for dark ghost gray? Still looking great and interesting to follow 👍

Hi Daniel, when I painted the Flaps, I noticed the difference. I guess I still had some Light ghost grey in my Airbrush, which made the dark ghost grey come put waaaay to light. After repaint, it looks alot better.

Great build, has the Hobbyboss some odd bits or is it pretty 'straight forward' modelling? Don't want to be a bore here, but shouldn't the small exhaust petals get a bit more metallic paint? Or is it under a layer of mask/grey paint? 🤗

@Mark D:
No worries, nothing wrong with asking 🫡
Yes, still have metallics to Do (exhaust pedals and gun exhaust), but I didn't want them be under a coat of flat paint 🙂 (gloss for the gun then light weathering, pedals under a semi-gloss coating).
To the kit itself. Mine was pretty straightforward but with a few little caveats:
If you build it with closed avionics panels, the center strake of the avionics bay needs to removed or reduced. Also, the out of box cockpit is nice, but one should consider which BuNo your going to build, since this kit does have the Advanced rear cockpit (similar to the growler rear pit) which is why picked up the resin replacement from metallic details. Maybe consider to pickup instrument decals from Quinta or red fox (dunno who makes them for HB Kit)
Other than that, it is pretty straightforward if one takes his time.
@Alexander: thank you, trying to take my time and not over do it, since it is a Land based aircraft🔎
@ Jos J: Thank you
@Daniel: Me too! I'm thinking about a growler with conversion to block III and with "what if" markings 😉

Came out awesome Donnie, love the low-viz paint scheme and the overall subtle weathering! 👍

Awesome rhino, very beautiful blend of grays 👍 👍 Think I would glue the canopy though to get rid if the gap

@Daniel, Thnak you, the Gap is only there, because I was reluctant to press the Canopy on (It's a hella tight fit), after on of the wheelspopped off during handling ^^'otherwise, as you can see in the Projects Titel picture, it has a snugg fit and a just visible line no gap ^^'
