OPERATION UPHOLD DEMOCRACY (1994-95)
In 1991, a military coup in Haiti led by Lieutenant General Raoul Cedras deposed President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who went into exile in France. A UN resolution authorized military force to take back Haiti from Cedras and return Aristide to power. In 1994, a US invasion force was assembled and was in the process of deploying, when a US delegation to Haiti negotiated a favorable deal for Cedras to restore Aristide to power without an invasion. The invasion force deployed to Haiti, but served as a peacekeeping force.

PROCLAMATION 6867 NATIONAL EMERGENCY (1996)
In 1996, Cuba shot down two Cessna 337 aircraft over international water in the Florida straits. This prompted President Clinton to declare a state of emergency. Interceptors were put on alert in Florida to guard against further Cuban aggression. This state of national emergency has been extended several times and continues to be in effect to the present day.
