The more I fiddled with it the more things went wrong. Over done the weathering a bit, guns and aerial mast braking off,...

Thank you skyfox22, Pietro and Neuling. I agree about the weathering should of been a bit more restrained. Thanks for all the likes fellow plaggy' bashers.

These are awesome kits!
@Martin. The Rex mixer is quite large, however the KW Transit Mixer, is a tad smaller, and easily available on the current market. Get yourself one 😉

I picked up the Mack DM800 Rex Mixer, in good condition. It was a highlight for me. The 800 is a tricky kit, but I had to have the mixer to complete the collection. I plan to do the tri-axle option, when I get around to it. But I gotta admit, the Paystar makes an awesome kit.

They are beasts. Just wonder why the rear fenders on the DM800 and Paystar mixers are so long - extending so much in front and arear of the tandem.

In the kit, they explained how to convert it into the tri-axle. They even tell you what kit to buy, to extend it! Pretty good marketing, at the time, eh? Lol

Thank you Martin Oostrom, Goldman, Neuling, Bozzer. I like construction equipment and have a 1:50 diecast collection. I built the cement mixer because I liked the Ertl/AMT models of the "International" line. I have built the 1972 Scout, the 2011 ProStar, the PayHauler 350 and both the PayStar Cememnt Mixer and Dump Truck.

Curtis, you need more stuff!
The 360 backhoe.
The D8 dozer.
And of course, some lowloader trailers, to carry them!
(Don't forget to get some awesome semi's, to pull them?)
My name is Bozzer, I'm your bad influence 😉

There's a very nice photo etch set, for the D8 dozer. I can't recall the maker at this time, but I've seen it and it's awesome. You can even get metal tracks for it, but I've only ever seen them online, once. We strive to do our best, but the main thing is, we just keep doing what we do.

Thanks Martin. Those are awesome additions and I plan to get them all. I have a dozer built, box standard. It's the Caterpillar version, but the decals are actually "stickers" So, I plan to adjust that. My next attempt (yes, I already have another kit) will be the full PE version. I seriously need to hunt down those tracks though, because they looked amazing!

There are no tracks linked to the D8 kits. There are some new additions from a company called Garage Kit SCM Search: Garage kit
No clue as to where to buy them though.
I did find something else: papyhobby.com/collec..&gid=1&pid=1
On the same site, the tracks: papyhobby.com/products/d8-traction-kit-02
No clue if it's legit, but you can leave a rib behind if you want.
Sorry for highjacking Curtis!

Martin Oostrom I have enjoyed this discussion between you and Bozzer. I may just have to finish my Caterpillar D8H model. I was at Hobby Town today picking up some paint and saw that AMT has "Construction Bulldozer and Lowboy Trailer" $94.99 retail, but their price was $87.99 USD. I should point out to you and Bozzer that I did complete a D9R Doobi IDF armored bulldozer. The model is a Meng and has a ton of detail to it.

Curtis, watch out in the upcoming weeks, for deals at Ollie's. You can normally pick up a truck or trailer, for $20 a pop. I've had many a bargain from there.

Thank you, Martin, Goldman, Neuling and Bozzer. My wife is not big on the distressed look of weathering and sometimes my weathering just muddies it up. So yes, it is factory fresh and my wife suggested the purple color for the cab. Bozzer the hood on this one work as good as the Western Star wrecker's!

Not being a critic mate, but I noticed that between this and the mixer, you have the orientation of the vent, different ways? I believe that it should be vertical, not horizontal? However, on all my kits, the pins, or holes, were moulded so the vent was horizontal. I still think that it's an excellent kit though. I actually enjoyed doing all my international trucks. I think that I only have two left, to build now?

Thanks, Bozzer, I got it air intake grill flipped. The only other International truck I found on eBay was the Logger and I am not sure I want to build that.

After two hours, the whole cockpit, wings and "fuselage" were together. I got totally sucked in after the first two hours and it really got in the way of other projects! So fun!!!

Biggest issue is the choice of D-Day markings. The white bands are 60 mm on each wing and on the booms. This makes the individual stripes 12 mm. Pretty easy once you see it. I started out with 50 mm white band. That was clearly too short.

Really nice work DM....Lovely build.
Best story around Robin Olds in a P-38 was that he got behind a flight of 109's.....he was ready to open fire when his engines cut - dead. He had forgot to switch tanks to his internals when he jettisoned his external tanks. Instead of resolving his fuel transfer issues he just carried on lining up on the 109 and shot it down while in 'glide mode'. That's calmness under pressure for you.

Great build! The nose wheel is up, does the the nose weight ball included in the kit need to be reinforced with extra lead?

The nose wheel appears elevated because I use a sheet of glass on my bench. The glass is 1/4" thickness.

Hi Ben. The engravings of this kit are so delicate that they loose depth with the application of primer to such an extent that panellining becomes quite tricky. I would continue to prime models where this doesn't seem to be an issue but modern airliners or small scale models with such fine engravings I will try to do without. I suppose propper surface preparation and use of colors with more 'bite' than acrylics would be a good idea to avoid issues with paint adhesion.

Not priming a model with fine shallow lines is a great idea. I would guess if you use stronger lacquer based paints its not an issue. Will try this on my next model with fine lines! Awesome progress BTW looks really good!

Tamiya makes "fine surface primer" I think for this application. I find it does not level as well as the regular product though.

Almost done. Now I have to adjust the shine. Even with the use of flat clear from Mr. Hobby the paint appears too shiny. Afraid to use AK Ultra Matt as this will be as matt as matt can be and thus maybe a bit too much. Then painting the radon and mounting the exhausts.

I was cheerfully positive to finish this bird today. But the gods of modelling had other plans. After removing the canopy masks I discovered an area where paint/varnish has crept under the edge and marred the inside. Shit. But I will live with it. Then I recalled that the seals of the canopy were still to be done. A quick freehand job seemed to be a sure road to regret and disappointment. So I was in for another round of masking. Painting will follow tomorrow- hopefully.
